    SDHQ sliders
    need help w/ sliders. TIA.

I have a 2018 DC with the 38 gallon tank. I strongly prefer not to drill in the frame (still under warranty and all that). The wife has knee issues and absolutely needs it to function as a step.

from my preliminary research, I'm seeing only a few options, with SDHQ as the leading candidate, that are bolt on's for a DC that double as a step (notes below).
    1. anyone have strong positive or negative opinions on any of those (no need to repeat comments from this or other linked threads)?
    2. any others that I'm missing?
    3. suggestions on handling the coating? all suppliers seem to indicate no guarantee on shipping w/ the powder coating. I've seen a lot of posters have theirs powder coated locally, some using LineX and other coatings as well. The LineX solution appeals to me as I'm assuming what's touch enough to coat a truck bed would hold up OK on a slider that is used as a step, and it gives some traction. What's your recommended solution?
    • SDHQ (tundras.com link)
      • NOTE: @joonbug says this is a bitch to install; one model
      • options: DOM upgrade, fill plate (included in cost, but need research to confirm -- emailed @sdhq_offroad)
      • cost: $1195 + shipping
      • lead time: emailed with other questions
      • did anyone solve the 4th rivet problem or does everyone just use 3?
    • P&P engineering (tundras.com link)
      • Type 4 selected, Type 2 also available (smaller step area)
      • options: dimple die step plate (included in cost)
      • cost: $1025 + shipping
      • lead time: emailed P&P
    • BAMF (Tundra's link)
      • NOTE: showing out of stock currently; one model
      • options: DOM upgrade, fill plate (included in cost, but need research to confirm)
      • cost: $1040 + shipping
    • rejected options:
      • Pelfreybilt -- only has CrewMax
      • White Knuckle -- requires drilling
      • Demello -- requires drilling

Most only require drilling to be weight bearing. If you choose not to drill it probably won’t hold the weight of the truck. Call demello or white knuckle to confirm. I am sure that’s the main reasons to drill through. No drill best bet is sdhq, dropping the gas tank a bit will help get into the frame for big tank and small tank.

If you don’t want a weight bearing slider, just get some steps or some cool nerf bars.

Yes the sdhq sliders were a bitch to install, but all of the sliders are. It was mainly a couple of the bolts around the gas tank that really gave me problems. Otherwise, it actually wasn’t that bad. I’ve seen every brand of sliders now and if I were to buy another set now, I’d buy sdhq again. Only negative thing I can say about them is that they are a tad short and doesn’t reach the rear wheels.

I had mine powdercoated at a local place for $160. If you’re going to wheel your truck hard, I would either PC or rattle can them to make it easier to touch up. Honestly, if you go the PC route, I would just have sdhq do them. These things are big and heavy and not fun to lug around. A few scratches during shipping won’t kill you if you’re going to scratch them up anyways. And just stick some skateboard tape on top for grip.

If you’re not going to bash them up, line-x might be ok. But that’s not going to protect the underside and you’ll probably have to touch up with paint.

The rivets I’m assuming you’re talking about the sdhq name plate? Just rivet them on before you install them on your truck. It’s once they’re installed you can’t get the fourth rivet on.

Here’s a pic of the side. Underside is way worse. I haven’t tried touching them up yet. There’s no point as I bash them up every time I go out. But if I ever decide to repaint them, I could probably make them look new again. Can’t really do that with them Line-x’d.

Our sliders are good in stock both raw and powder coated.

Another note, our sliders are made out of 4130 Chromoly steel which is both stronger and light than mild or DOM steel.

    All stock-ish. Powdercoated blue suspension.

Love my SDHQ sliders! As others mentioned, yes the driverside (gas tank side) was a complete headache especially when you don't have an extra hand to help. But overall I love the chromoly part about the slider more than DOM. As to what @joonbug also mentioned about wishing they could just a extend a tad bit more towards the rear wheel. Just make sure if you order SDHQ sliders, keep your gas tank to about 1/4 full or under. I didn't know their shipping for the sliders was freighted and quick, so I did topped my tank off that day I ordered it.

    +1 @sdhq_offroad

Cannot say enough good about them. I went Premium Line-X route. I may come to regret that decision, but oh well, they look great at this point.

I have the APEX, I had to cut a chunk out to fit around a bolt near rear part of the gas tank. Installed by myself, was a pain.

I bought the White Knuckle with the diamond steel foot plate. Coated top in truck bed coating and no slipping from any seniors I drive. Sticks out further than most and the whole top is a step. Currently taking off a 2015 and putting on a 2018. Drilling is optional for extreme use. All grade 8 hardware.

Another vote for SDHQ. Install was a bit of a pain, but I was able to pull it off by myself. Dropping the gas tank a bit does help a lot. If you have a double cab you will run into more pain on the passenger side too. Rear body mount bracket was in the way and I had to round the hole out to get the bolt in. Had to use a floor jack to push the sliders up over the frame to get them flush. They are great protection on the trail and came in handy for me to change a flat out on the trail as a jacking point on the truck.

Love my @sdhq sliders. On trips I have a can of spray on Bed Liner to perform touch ups after a long day on the trail!

For those of you with the SDHQ’s, have you had any trouble with the length of the sliders since they don’t cover every inch of rocker/bed?

None of my groceries have caused any issues. I did have a close call with a particularly high curb at the mall once.
