Question: I read on this or the sub thread that the door speakers receive signals already with crossover from factory amp. Is this true, or able to be verified? If so that means front door will not be full range, correct?
So I assume, if that's true, that's where the infinity (dash) left and right channels will provide the mid range. If that's not true then the doors will all be full range ..?

Just trying to put it together in my head.

The crossover is indeed in the JBL amp as I understand it anyway. So when we wire our new speakers we will wire the mid range to mid range wires and tweeter to tweeter wires. This will not change the current range of sound at all, same frequencies from better quality speakers. The corner dash speakers are 2 way coaxial speakers so they will put out mid and high frequencies which is an upgrade from a crappy "full range" paper speaker. the center channel will be dual tweeters for highs. So we will not be losing any range if wired correctly. If you wire it wrong, such as running the tweeter wires from the mid range then yes it won't sound right.

Could we buy a plug and play four channel amp? I mean a true plug and play, as in "here's the adapter harness that you plug one end into the cable connectors on the factory side and the other side plugs into the new non-OEM amp".

What I'm looking at is buying this GB speakers and installing them. At some point, at the same time or here and there over the next year, buying a Kenwood HU, a five channel amp, and a sub box.
I'd rather it all be simple plug and play with very little, if anything extra. I do know that extra cables and wires will need to be ran for the sub box.

James posted a while back about the "plug and play" myths. I do not think it's this simple. I know high level inputs on some amps will work out and you can buy harnesses but you still need a power from battery, a ground, and remote turn on wire that would have to be somehow hooked to the headunit or you would have to buy some kinda line out controller and wire that in so sense the power from the speakers and send a signal to the amp to turn on, and you would need power and ground and harnesses for the LOC as well.

@james@tech12volts has been working on making the install very simple, but you still will need to run a power cable thru the firewall boot, install a fuse and attach the cable to the battery. Also will need to attach a ground cable. Here is a post he made a week or so ago of a setup that he made very easy.
    Screenshot_20190210-183308_Facebook.jpg

A true plug and play setup that does not require a larger gauge power and ground cable is either a very low power amp (like the factory amp) or is risking an electrical fire by over heating the factory wire. Hopefully you would blow a fuse first, but I have seen people install higher rated fuses in the factory fuse box of cars.

It says "run power" so I'm guessing that's exactly what he means and what you said, run a larger (properly sized) power wire and a ground wire of the same size as the power wire?

Very curious as to what "this setup" that he's coming up with will cost.

After the $320 for the GB speakers, I'll have $1200 to see about buying a HU, 5 channel amp, and sub box with one or two 10 inch woofers in it.
I like the Kenwood DDX8905S, so that takes about $600 off of the amount that's left.
Not sure that I want to go with a HU that has the availability to play DVDs/CDs. I guess I could go digital and convert all 300+ CDs of mine to FLAC. and put on a single USB memory key.
I've got options that I need to sort out after I buy the GB speakers.

Yes, looking at the photo of the setup James built, the main ground wire looks to be 4 gauge, that is connected to the distribution block and then connected to the amps with 8 gauge wire. I would say the power wire needed would also be 4 gauge for that particular setup. Larger amps or more amps, you may have to run 2 gauge or 0 gauge wire
Or the ground is 0 gauge and then 4 gauge to the amps

********* has plug and play amps, with the exception of running a power wire. They also require some tuning but they come with instructions. The set up James is developing is supposed to have pre-tuned amps. My plan is to get in on this GB before the end of month and pair it with sub/amps from *********. I may change my mind in the spring if James releases his amps at a competitive price/performance range with *********.

Argh......taco tunes setup isn't more PNP than any other setup. You have to run a power wire. Taco tunes is lying to you if they say it's PNP.

And you are much better off getting a good brand amp vs who knows what the hell supplier taco tunes is using.

The issue I have always had with ********* is they don't or won't say what brand their amps are, and some speakers as well. Their stuff isn't any more plug and play than other kits that are out there. And any amp you don't need to run a power wire for is not likely to be better than the stock amp. So many people rave about ********* but I have also heard several terrible experiences. I just don't think their quality is even close to what tech12volts is putting together. And James is very honest and upfront, you know exactly what you're getting from James.

Can you find out if non jbl guys can use this as the replacement for the system that we don't have.... I'm assuming it will (one channel for the sub and four other for the door speakers).

    Lol, I hear ya man.
I'm not gonna be in on the amp buy. I'm broke lol. James put this out there so I'm just throwing it out here for him. He ended up upside down after the subwoofer group buy due to shipping issues and whatnot so I feel if I can help him out in any way by simply posting up info I will do that. Hes such a great guy and I hope some people here will benefit. i for one can not swing this one unfortunately

I think you will wire your current speaker wires into the hi level inputs and then run wires from the amp to your new speakers but I just emailed James to confirm how this works for non JBL people. I'll let you know asap
