$44 a gallon at Amazon - any better places to buy or has anyone seen it available locally?

My thoughts exactly. It's a shame what they do to cars up here in the rust belt.

I brought my 03 Sequoia with me to the valley when I moved away from the coast. It spent it's entire life life at the coast and shows zero signs of any rust on the frame, the paint also held up really well, never garaged. Hell, the heat from the valley did far worse damage the last two years than the coast ever did (paint and body wise)

My no-rust 06 DC Limited was $6000 with 175k miles, but it was a salvage title. Seller lied to me and said it had all the airbags and they just needed hooked up, but front bags were missing, control unit needs reset, plugs need rewired, seatbelts pre-tensioners were removed etc.

Otherwise, super clean and reliable truck. I just paid about $2000-$2500 too much for it. I have all the bags necessary, the only cost me around $400. Seatbelts were another $100. I think I can get the SRS system working for another $400 at most.

Sorry to hear that, did you pull a CarFax or toss the VIN in owners.toyota? Doesn't sound that bad considering the miles, assuming nothing else is wrong with it.

Much debate over what to use. You definitely don't need an entire gallon but if you do buy that it should last multiple winters.

    Here is a good thread.

Cans of Fluid Film are available at pretty much any Auto Parts store here in North Texas for $7-$9 a can. I plan on doing mine this weekend, we’ll see how many it takes.

I'd never heard of Fluid Film before getting this Tundra... Damn Toyota and their inability to make steel properly! Never once had a worry about rusty frames on any of my previous four Suburbans. Anyways, after spending 45min researching FF and sprayers, etc, I'm just going to go to Menards and pickup 3-4 cans and have at it. Next year I'll buy a gal and a sprayer setup...

I spotted a really clean 1st Gen Tundra that's the same color as mine the other day... I ran into the guy at the post office this morning, and complimented him about his nice truck. We talked for a few minutes... it's a 4WD 2001 V8 SR5 AC that is all original and spotless... even the clear coat is perfect. He purchased it from the original owner about 2 weeks ago, and paid $5000.00 for it. The truck has 368,000 miles on it, and it's been serviced by the same selling dealer that services my trucks.

Deals are out there, have cash ready when opportunity knocks.

You stole that....like @FirstGenVol said, you should coat that every year. @Professional Hand Model has a good write-up somewhere on here on what he did that sounds like a good idea for anyone with one of these northern trucks...you might want to invest in one of these as well...

I paid about $8k for my 2006 with 199k miles in August 2018. It has about 215k miles now and hasn't given me any problems. I had all the maintenance done about 5k miles ago (filters, fluids, spark plugs, grease, pcv, thermostat, etc) but I've also upgraded the suspention, tires, injectors. I probably could have gotten by with just shocks, tires and oil, but I like to over do things. I took the truck for a 200 mile trip shortly after I bought it and before I had done any maintenance. Then I took it on a 500 mile trip after an oil change and a 400 mile trip after a major maintenance overhaul.

Suburbans of the 70's & 80's also had great frames, but the salt ate the bodies right off those frames

I am in the same boat, looking at 05-06 Tundras, found this one a local dealer a 06 SR5 DC V8 2WD 93,000 Miles, Very Clean ,No Rust at Dealership, Listed at $12,800. Has not had timingbelt or water pump replaced. Price seemed a little high.
Also found this 06 160,000 miles 2WD V8 $10,500, timing belt and water belt change.

But should this be a concern?

Don’t know if this is considered a rust concern?

Doesn't look that bad to me. Though, judging from your post #3 (you know you can input multiple images in one reply) it looks like its been coated. Can't see much going on under the coat, doesn't seem as flaky and corroded as some northeastern dealer coats I've seen (the worst). For a 2WD that price seems reasonable... but others here would know better.

    No.

But a 2WD anything is worth zero dollars to me.

In Florida, no need for 4wd, at least for my needs.

That frame has been coated with something. See how bubbly it looks? Could be fine or it could be hiding something. You could likely tell of you saw it in person.

Is that a big deal in Florida though? It's not like the new owner will tally on more rust driving it around... feel like it's a good negotiating tactic but its much ado about nothing considering location

I would say no. Just a weekend with a wire wheel, brush, and spray with red oxide primer and paint over. Nice truck
