parasitic drain, and now what...No cranking

    2003 Tundra 4.7, Died going down the road a couple of months ago tracked down a drain. Replaced battery, and all main power cables, took out starter had it tested, tested good. put back together. No charging, alternator was bad, replaced it. started ran for four days, came out of a store, would not turn over...power to dash instrumentation, but fuel pump relay is chattering the c-opn is jumpered across--no chattering, replaced c-opn relay , not the problem,replaced efi relay--not the problem, jumpered across opn relay. fuel pump is fine, starter relay still does not engage. ignition switch changed, park/neutral switch good. Any suggestions....

    Sounds like you've got an issue with your cables and/or terminals. Corrosion inside battery cables, bad ground ... I'd be testing those cables.

    Your timing belt should be changed very 100k miles / 10yrs. A lot of times when it's being replaced, the person replacing may mis-route the crank position wire harness and it gets nicked by the belt. Could potentially cause all the symptoms since it died on the road. Did you check your crank position sensor wire harness to make sure it hasn't been nicked and isn't damaged?

    I replaced all of the cables and terminals as that was where I found the initial drain will roll under to check sensor.

    Entire cables from batt to alternator, bat to fuse/relay box? Or just the ends?

    And the crank position sensor harness status?

    Entire cable,all cables, soldered new ends...to starter, alternator,fuse box, grounds...the harness looks un-touched, no wear or cuts or cracking

    I'd be checking the connection under the engine bay fuse/relay box to make sure you don't have something like this.

    I would check the fuel pump circuitry to understand how all these things play in with one another. Those diagrams I linked from '06 may help, but read on.

    The ticking relay could be indicative of either (A) low voltage at the relay/fuse panel causing the relay to trip or (B) bad relay, however, be careful, others have found on here that aftermarket relays from the local parts store DO NOT tend to play nice on these trucks so be cautious.

    There's this thread which may help with some general ideas (and also has links to the service manual in the 4th-5th sentence of 1st reply to review diagrams/circuits, and also links to wiring diagrams).

    From that thread, further down the road, you may want to rule out (I guess) would be possibility of water entering the fusebox. This is taken from the electrical issues section of that thread and may help, pay attn to the in-dash glovebox "pics" links, but there's also an example of the nicked CP sensor I mentioned earlier:
    • These trucks usually don't have a ton of other electrical issues. Hidden corrosion inside the battery/alt cables happens. Sometimes, a couple thousand miles after timing belt changes, people will have startup issues because the crank position sensor wasn't properly tucked away and gets rubbed by a belt (pic). There's also a similar problem with camshaft position sensor under the cam cover, where the belt will rub through (pics). There's the rodent issues mentioned earlier. Occasionally, water leaks can send water down into the ECM behind the glovebox (pics), or into the fusebox inside the cab/dash (pics and more pics). A lot of drain/vampire issues trace back to aftermarket add-ons whether the owner knows they exist or not - alarms as mentioned earlier, brake controllers, poorly installed trailer receptacles, those are some big ones.

    I agree with @shifty`

    you most likely have a low voltage issue.

    could be your new battery,

    could be your parasitic drain is still there causing your battery to not hold charge.

    could be loose connection.

    These often end up being bad grounds. Assume nothing, check them all.

    I changed all the grounds, battery is holding a charge, have not been able to check shiftys recent suggestions yet, has to wait till the weekend. will update then

    You changed the main ground from the battery to the back of the engine block?
