I am about to do my puddle light in a few weeks. Was going over the wiring again on what wires to tap. I Have everything I need but leaving for vacation which is the delay for the install.

Anyways, you were the one that gave me the idea for the rear footwell kit in the rear center console but I couldn’t remember where I saw it. I used the vled max pod and a bit overkill but I like it

Better too much light than too little.
    Glad it worked out...

    Enjoy your vacation...:D:thumbsup:

I agree, its hard to get too much light into a black interior

Just realized I posted on the tow mirror install thread

    soooo reposting

    08A418D0-4FBD-410E-B5B1-73A1F1EF50D4.jpg 62E06635-7A7D-4869-949C-E59EF9CF5F93.jpg F601995B-3454-4621-9DAF-E3A20F60ADEA.jpg

Install actually went pretty well. And been running VLED puddles on my Tacoma for a few years and they are still running strong.

It’s the only way to go.

    This is the way

I think I’m going to add a rear one next to the license plate…. Maybe not this puddle light but a vled max pod.

Wish I would have saw this while I was ordering my VLEDs during their 20%\free shipping deal. Apparently they plug and play with the footwell lights system.

gonna have to do this as well. :spending:

They do, but you still have to modify a couple of the wires to get the connectors where they will match up with the VLED footwell light connectors

It's not a huge deal, just had to cut and solder a couple of wires so I could get the right connectors on the end to plug into the VLED footwell lights. Small inconvenience for the luxury of not having to splice into the truck's wiring.

Looking to make this move with VLED puddles. Mine is an SR5 model with nothing prewired. Reaching out to see what I will need aside from the standard kit from VLED?

wanting to tie into whatever makes them come on/off/dim with the interior lights as well. TIA.

If I remember correctly, they come with a 6 foot wire for each side. I have the footwell kit so I tied the passenger side into that light.

In addition to the Puddle Lights, here are the other wiring accessories I ordered. As previously mentioned, I already had the VLED footwell lights installed and this allowed me to hook right up to them:

    2 x PIGTAIL ADAPTER 6 FOOT 2 PIN FEMALE + DUOTAP VLED SKU: 2F_WP_6
2-WAY SPLITTER Y ADAPTER 2 PIN WP STYLE CONNECTOR VLED SKU: 2_WP_Y_2
EXTENSION WIRE 2 PIN WP STYLE 4-FOOT VLED SKU: 2_WP_EXT_4

So my VLEDs have arrived. Package contents are as follows:

    2 x 8ft ext cables
    1 x 4ft ext cable
    1 x 2 way Y splitter
    2 x lights
All the ext cables have one male end and one female end for connecting lights. The Y adapter would be how I connect the 2 lights to one wire but am I supposed to strip the end of the 4ft ext to separate the positive and negative wires so I can T-tap into my cargo switch and to ground?

That’s just the only way I’m seeing to wire these thing up. I did not want to plug into the little footwell light over the parking brake. Preferred to just tap in to cargo light wire.

I want to do this mod. Has anyone tried adding marker/blinkers while they have the mirror off?

Yes, front facing (post #124) and rear facing. I went with spotter mirror or could use above posted MuthCo. I don't have a side by side comparison but looking at pics the Muth looks a bit brighter than Spotter, but I was okay getting a wide angle spot mirror.

Is this the front you’re talking about?

That may be what I’m looking for. I was thinking about something sitting flush on the outer edge of the mirror housing. Something that could be a marker and a blinker visible from side/front/back.

not necessarily these but you get the idea. 3/4 inch flush mounted.

I've had both Muth and Spotter mirrors.
Muth is red and brighter, but the benefit of the wide-angle mirror outweighs that brightness.
Besides, I had to have the amber spotter signal to match my amber Hotshot rear turn signals..:D

Seems I deleted my Muth pics..:(

I have puddle lights and front and rear floorboard lights tapped into the little worthless footwell light.
I actually cut it off, I dodn't care about plug-and-play on lights.
It's the same circuit as the lighted ignition key ring.

The advantage of using the footwell light circuit is the puddle lights will fade on and off as opposed to an abrupt on/off.
Although that may not be important to you.

I did both on my SR5..
I had to run wiring from the kick plates for both.
My mirror plug didn't have the power feed for either, although some Tundras do.

Pretty sure I just got lucky. But- I used a PosiTap. The PosiTap allows you to tap into the wire without damaging it. I would have turned the circuit on, and then tapped the wires til I got the right one.

I really like the spotter mirrors though.
    I'm used to having a wide-angle mirror at work..:D
