You are absolutely right about color matching, i sure wouldnt want any chrome anywhere on truck so i believe sport is the way to go.
i dnt know much about sway bars how they work, you mentioned if sway bar is off then there is more wheel travel/?
now the only head scratching for me left is either i want midnight black or army green

My comment about wheel travel was primarily directed at the rear sway bar, as current Tundras will all have a front sway bar. The Sport gets a beefier, and red, front sway bar, but it's not going to be any less travel up front than any other trim level.

Anyway, the rear sway bar ties the axle to the frame to reduce flex and twist in opposite directions. This firms up the rear and reduces body roll at the cost of some rear wheel travel. Honestly, from everything I've read on here, you won't lose enough to keep you from doing basic off road activities. So, unless you plan to be hard core crawling or doing really rough/high speed off roading, you would be fine keeping the rear sway bar on. You could also look into setting up a way to disconnect it for off roading. It's a pretty simple piece of equipment.

As far as color, you might want to browse this thread and read up on the work required to keep black looking good. https://www.tundras.com/threads/ask-the-detailer.18408/ Don't get me wrong, few colors will look as good as clean and polished black on just about any vehicle. You will just have to work hard to maintain that look. I owned a black truck and black car before, and I don't think I'll ever do it again so long as I have the finances to be color picky.

I'm planning on getting my truck in the summer of 2021 either by whats already available or special order. Are you telling me that toyota is quoting 6 months wait on ordering a truck direct? Thats unheard of!!!! Its usually 4-6 weeks even during a pandemic! Please elaborate

How many vehicles have you ordered during pandemics?

Production is down because factories were shut down. They have a back log of orders to fill. It will take time.

Fair enough but ive read through plenty if posts in the last few months where guys mentioned or ordered trucks and NOBODY said expect 6 months. Furthermore I imagine if that was the standard response by toyota we would have about 20 threads on the topic right now.

Id like to hear from the person who was given that Information and at least know where he is located.

@grandmabetty I've quoted the comment that I believe you are referring to. The said to expect 2 to 6 months of wait, so it's not a standard 6 month wait. The delay appears to be because it's a high demand build that they are already selling ahead of delivery. Special orders take longer most of the time.

Pre pandemic (2017) I ordered a WRX because I wanted specific options and wanted others omitted, and I could not find a vehicle anywhere that met my specific wants. I was told to expect 8-12 weeks at a minimum, and that it could be longer. Now, full disclosure, the car was built in Japan, but the point stands that for a special order I was at 2-3 months minimum before any kind of shortages were happening. With the shut downs and shortages doubling it doesn't sound out of line.

Is any purchase where you order off the Toyota website considered a special order or is a special order only when you customize a truck by removing and adding different options?

A special order would be anything that is not on the lot, or coming to it through the normal stock orders of the dealership. There are popular options and trims that can be more common in certain areas, so the less popular ones may not be readily available. If you decide you want to get a vehicle with options that aren't normally offered, or remove items that are offered, they have to order the truck specifically for you. It usually requires a deposit, because you are making them order something tailored to your wants, and it may be difficult to sell to the general public.

That WRX I ordered is the only example I have personal experience with, so I will stick to it.
I wanted the Limited to get leather seats, and I wanted the upgraded head unit that had navigation and also added BSM int that tech group. I did NOT want the parking sensors because they absolutely ruined the lines of the car. It was impossible to find the options I wanted that didn't automatically include the parking sensors. Believe me, I tried for months. The reason being, that if a buyer was going to pay extra for tech upgrades and comfort items in a sport/performance vehicle then there was a high likelihood that they would want all of them. Even if they didn't have the sensors on the wish list the odds of them walking away over an added feature was negligible. As a result the "popular options" cars that dealers stocked were not what I was looking for. I had to find a dealer that would special order it for me, and because I was picky on options I had little to no negotiating power.

Anyway, I hope this sheds some light on the topic for you.

Thanks azure. Thats helpful. All I want is a TRD sport in army green with a spray in bedliner and some predator steps. Shouldn't need to have that special ordered but we will see how popular the army green color is this year

Nice truck! I just ordered a 2021 Tundra SR5 TRD Off-road in Army Green yesterday. The dealer said 4-6wks, but then said up to 3 months. I’m in San Antonio where they’re made, and he also said that we (SATX) usually get them faster than the rest of the country, so hopefully that’s true.

Either way, I’m expecting a longer wait instead of a shorter one.

Mainly want to sport for no chrome but also, after reading through some comments the last few months, the OR package doesn't offer anything I need over the sport. The skid plates are reportedly crap. I dont do any mountain climbing or Baja driving so dont need to suspension tuned for that. I like the idea of sway bars for on road driving which the sport has.

I do plan on switching out the wheels for 18s in the future on it. This should make for a less bumpy ride.

At the end of the day I dont see a lot of difference between the 2 packages other than appearance.
