Gen 2 is snappier than my Gen 2.5, why?

So I have a 2013 with 125K miles on it and a 2021 with 5000 miles. My son is now driving the 2013 after my 2021 purchase in Nov last year. I just took the 2013 in for maintenance and as I am driving I just realized that the 2013 feels snappier, quicker on the gas pedal when I accelerate. Is it just me or the gen 2 is programed differently? I really can notice the difference

Throttle map is a lot different. Later years sometimes have really weird sensitivity that is gear specific, instead of the earlier trucks where it's one throttle curve for every gear too.

I notice the same thing when I drive my dad’s 2012. However Tow/Haul is more jumpy with my 2020. My assumption is that Toyota may have changed some gearing in the transmission in the 2.5’s

They changed the throttle response due to folks complaining about the pedal being too jumpy

2.5 gens throttle mapping is kina lazy. Tow/Haul button or any of the pedal commander boxes will bring back the snappy feel. Or just press more on the go pedal.

Definitely the throttle mapping. That's why the Pedal Commanders/OTT tunes etc. are becoming so popular when there's little to no actual power gains to be had on a stock truck.

There was a sudden unintended acceleration fiasco years ago resulting in a lawsuit and couple recall fixes and I think the throttle was de mapped at some point on Gen2s built After this.

OK, so I wasn't crazy then. I remember some tuning threads related to 2.5. Any safe / reliable tunes I can push to my gen 2.5? And I hope it won't void my extended warranty?

I can't speak to warranty safety, but I've got approximately 20k on an OTT Tune and am very happy with it on 34s.

How does this works? I have to put the truck in "Tow/Haul" mode? Never heard of it, never done it. Would it break or impact anything?

I believe only trucks with the tow package came with this. It's a button to the right of the steering wheel that changes transmission and throttle mapping with the push of a button.

Throttle mapping? My 2008 has the stock gas pedal, I removed the shim from up top for free to help it not be so sensitive.
People buy different pedals all the time for this but you can add or remove the shim.

I can't tell if you're messing with me or not, but the 2nd gen Tundra has electronic throttle control; there's no mechanical connection between the throttle body and the gas pedal. The sensitivity of the throttle is controlled by the computer.

Tow/haul on the 2.5 gen makes the throttle mapping feel more like the 2nd gen. On my 2010 the pedal sensitivity was indistinguishable between normal and tow/haul. On my 2017 it’s a huge difference between the two. And no, tow/haul won’t hurt a thing.

Same; just the buttons are in different locations....

My '08 and '21 will both toggle through the options; dash lights look a little different though. As already stated, my '08 doesn't feel much different in throttle response, but the '21 definitely 'wakes up'. No more HP or TQ just a more responsive pedal
