Ok so I knew about the traction control thing and I do that on a regular basis but hadn't thought about Tow/Haul. So I tried both at the same time. I figured it would probably slow me down since it would be shifting for power and torque instead of speed (like a previous truck I had).

Boy was I wrong, she went into absolute beast mode and my MPG's were through the roof (relatively). I was getting about 24 mpg going down the freeway.

I did notice a high pitch screaming noise. I then realized it was me.

This information has been out for quite some time, but I am glad you figured it out. One of my neighbors at our property has a company truck that is a 4.6 Tundra. I just told him the same thing since he was complaining about power. He is loaded down pretty good though.

Is there any downside to leaving it in tow/haul all the time?

I basically do it when I'm at the light next to some shitty Dodge truck (sorry, seems to me Dodge trucks all look like butt and fall apart fast) and that's it. Am I going to kill anything by just leaving it on? Other than my fuel economy, of course..

I must have missed the bandwagon. I previously had an F150 and I would put it into 2 (after PRND1) and it was slow as sin but had a lot of power. I noticed someone comment on this the other day so I thought i'd give it a try. They didn't mention the performance though, they just commented on MPG gains.

It didn't make sense to me but I've long ago stopped trying to figure out the magical powers of the Toyota engineers.

The reason your F-150 was slow when in 2nd gear is due to this:
-That is set up to get wheel speed up if stuck in the mud or deep snow. It actually works pretty good, but on dry pavement it would suck. Your owners manual would tell you that. I found out the same way as you with some company F-350 work trucks.

Your fuel economy is going to pay dearly due to the transmission staying in a lower gear for longer.

Ha Ha!! I had a 01 dodge 2500 try that crap with me. I schooled him on turbo lag, manual transmission, and how snappy the Tundra really is. These trucks are pretty impressive.

As long as you have the Tow/Haul Ass button. Turn off all nannies and turn on Tow/Haul Ass button. You're gonna spin your tires!

I don't notice any different between just two haul mode and all nannies off and tow haul. Seems the same to me.

I have seen people talk about it all the time but never tried it, First time I tried I realized it was amazing and I was romping all over the place. I got 10.75mpg. Well hell, I get around 11.5-12 normal in town anyway. 1.25 miles per gallon lost is worth all the smiles per gallon gained. Probably wouldn't even be as bad if I drove like a normal person just in tow haul mode but it's hard not to floor it all the time.

It helps a lot though since I have heavier/bigger wheels/tires. Some times I'll pull out right on red and it'll shift right before I gun it needing to go then it won't have a lot of power OR it'll drop a gear and rev to the high heavens. Tow haul mode helps hold first gear a little longer.

I call it my asshat button. I drive like an asshat when I press it.

I think you have to be stopped to turn off vsc. Not too much to gain on the highway in beast mode. And probably better to have your vsc on while on the highway.
