Just ordered mine last week and received it today. Install was about 5 minutes. I took a cinder block with 2, 2x4’s stacked , set the plate on it and slid it under the truck into place. Went to Ace to grab security bolts but they’re closed for the holidays.

Sorry guys just been super swamped at work have not had time to keep on here. But I see some of you already ordered. I received mine today. Bit have not opened the box yet. Security bolts were ordered from fasteners and hot in about 2 days. The key or torqs bit got on Amazon next day.

Greetings all. First post as a new member... But let me say I am very happy to have found you. I too just ordered this Catalytic Converter protection plate from Ken with American Eagle off road. I spoke with him over the phone like 10 minutes ago. Great guy. He also told me that the hardware might be able to be purchased from Lowes so I am going to see what I can find out out that.

Anyone got pics of this cat skid mounted up with your RCI engine skid?

I’d like to see how they work together.

My coworker ran into a school site and left his county truck parked outside for about 15 minutes. Happened Friday. Has me really thinking about some protection. If they'll do this on a school site, to a county vehicle with the owner nearby...no one is safe.

I agree. Kinda wish RCI would step-up and just widen their ALREADY existing transmission plate and it would work perfect.

It's only a very minor mod with the trd skid, I dont imagine RCI is much more involved am I right?

My only complaint about the Desert Eagle skid is that it does not protect the transfer case (the RCI skid does). I switched from the RCI to the DE skid and my first time out after the switch, I hit my transfer case (put a little dent in the tiny transfer case skid). Still, the protection that the DE skid offers it worth it.

Not my truck but this is the DE skid with the RCI engine skid:

How hard was it to tighten the front crossmember bolts with the skids blocking the way? Did you go from the side or the front?

It was a real PITA! I was able to get one arm up from the side and I felt around until I could drop the washer on and hand tighten the nut. Then I was able to extract my arm grab a wrench, find the nut, and tighten. The Desert Eagle skid is really wide so there is not a lot of space but it is doable.

Sounds fun....Hopefully a long breaker bar to hold the top nut will make it easier for me. I am planning on fabbing up an extender piece to put on the back to fully cover the back cats with some steel sheet. Ill post some pics when i get it done. Planning to have it bend up with a cutout for the exhaust pipe and maybe putting some jagged edges on there do discourage someone from trying to get their arm back there.

There's not much space up there. I used the shortest ratchet that fit in the little space and slowly cranked it a few teeth at a time.

I cut slots on the desert eagle skid and slid it between the RCI skid and the subframe.

Is cat theft just in certain areas of the country? I haven't heard of any in Florida but anything is possible. Makes me wonder if I should look into skids.
