Go with the Dirty Deeds. You will need a resonator with Carven to get rid of the drone, then you will be at the same price as Dirty Deeds. Unless you like the drone.

What is drone? Is it a loud humming sound or a low hum

I have the Carven. If I didn't I would get the Dirty Deeds exhaust. Keith made me a resonator and the drone is gone. @dirtydeeds

Loud and annoying after awhile. When I added the resonator it was gone.

I don’t recall what the discount code was. You can contact them and they may provide one to you. It was only a 5% discount I think. I went bamuffler 8”. Kind of wish I did the 6” just for a little bit more sound. But I’m very happy with the quality.

Thanks. Extreme Off-road has a 10% sale on it now so I think I’ll try it out. I’ll add a resonator if it drones.

Just remember the resonator is another $200. Add that into the price of the Carven and see if it cheaper or the same price of the group buy from @dirtydeeds

I have the Carven on my 2019 Platinum and tow a 28' travel trailer. It does have a Drone at 1700 to 2000 rpm range @ 50 60 mph. At first it didn't bother me but after several 500 mile camping trips enough was enough...purchased the Helmholtz from Dirtydeeds….I mocked up the tailpipe like he shows and removed the section that goes over the rear axel to drill a 2" hole...long story short bit was old so drove truck to store for bit with rear section removed and NO drone....thought I was not hearing so took it for a 20 min cruise still No drone. Exhaust looks like a rear dump system just after axel ,have run it this way for several weeks...might be another way to get the sound and not the extra 200 for the resonator. I haven't towed with it yet.....we will see if its completely gone when I tow.

I end up buying the Carven Exhaust, it came yesterday so I’ll install it this weekend. I’m excited at the same time hoping for no drone. I’ll update my experience after install.

I was surprised when I drove it without the tailpipe section...might want to try it first without the rear section as I had Drone when fully assembled.

For those that are having drone issues, are you running the R or TR muffler?

Installed the carven exhaust this weekend, the startup sounds good and it sounds good when you punch it but the drone while driving is annoying.

Did the resonator reduce the loud roar when you start and punch it or did it just get rid of the drone

Hi everybody! New to the forum! Just got my 2020 Tundra last month. Pretty much made up my mind on getting the Carven exhaust since their HQ is only like 25 miles away from where I live. Going to pay them a visit and get all the discounts. I read this full thread but I have not found the answer to whether you were guys were using the Carven R series or the TR series which is less aggressive. Was considering getting the TR series since they just redesigned the core just last year with the louvered baffle + pillow pack. I am considering buying two TR muffles and getting a custom pipe job to get true duals (2 in and 2 out) with 2.5 diameter pipes all the way through up until the wider tips. Would love to hear your opinions on how I am going about my plans and would love your suggestions. Some facts to consider:
    1. I'm not planning on towing so if I lose a little torque I don't think it really matters
    2. My commute to work is short so I will be doing a lot of city driving. so mostly going to be within that 1800-2100 'drone range' zone
    3. considering going dual pipes straight out the back, not only for looks, but from what I read, it will give off less drone in the cab because of its proximity.
    4. I will consider getting a Helmhotz from Dirtydeeds if the buzz in the cabin starts slowly driving me crazy.

Appreciate any suggestions or opinion. thanks ahead of time!

    Welcome from NY.

I would just get the @dirtydeeds exhaust if I was changing my exhaust.
Give Keith a call today, he just had a group buy that ended yesterday. Maybe you can still get that deal.

    Welcome.

There is a ton of information on exhausts in the Performance and Tuning Section. You can read until your eyes bleed.

I have experience with stock, TRD and Keith's 8 and 12 inch standard systems.

Sound is subjective so I won't get into what sounds good and what doesn't. When I had the TRD exhaust - which is true dual - I did some experimenting with H pipes and Keith's tailpipe resonators. Documented in this thread:

    https://www.tundras.com/threads/added-h-pipe-and-resonators-to-trd-exhaust.49886/

There is definitely some low end torque loss with true duals. The addition of the H pipe got the low end torque back - in fact, I couldn't tell any difference between the stock system and the TRD with the crossover in terms of low end torque. The tailpipe resonators eliminated the little bit of drone the TRD system had, but also made the entire system very quiet - almost stock like on the inside. The TRD mufflers are 26 inches long compared to the Carven mufflers, which are much shorter, so even with the tailpipe resonators - you should still get some decent sound - albeit quieter.

I heard a Carven TR muffler on a Tundra, but it was on a single out system (just replaced the stock muffler with the TR). It sounded similar to Keith's 8 inch standard system - maybe a little bit deeper and had some pop (slight rasp) on acceleration that I don't remember the 8 inch having.

My rambling probably isn't answering your question directly, but hopefully there's some feedback in there you can use.

    Good luck.

    Not enough....
Hey Ed! I still haven't made a separate post for this, but I really need to.

I'm the guy with the TR welded into the factory pipes, along with a stainless Y-pipe that Ed heard. I absolutely love it. The drone was pretty bad at first, but got a little better after a week or so. However the DD resonator really did the trick. I love it now. It's definitely not crazy loud, but has a wonderful sound to it, and is nice a quiet while cruising.

Total investment was less than $250. Even if I had to buy a new resonator from Keith for $200, I still would have spent under $500 with the welding labor. I also added a 4" tip for a few bucks.

David - hope all is well with the family. I’ll look out for your post - if/when you get time, I’m sure the little one keeps you busy.

Glad the resonator worked for you. The Carven sounded pretty healthy so I figured the resonator would help tune the sound without totally silencing it.

Thanks Ed. Yes all is well here, time is just flying. She's about 5 and half months old now, it's crazy.

Yeah I really need to try to snag some videos of the exhaust. It's a third vehicle for us, so I don't even drive it too much, and especially with still working from home a lot still. There are times I still wished it were louder, but I do love the deep tone. I'm sure the Carven R muffler would sound great too with the stock size piping if somebody wanted it a bit louder.

Either way, that resonator is key unless you just cut down the tailpipe.
