CA closed that no tax loop hole buying from other states. It's no longer a sales tax, it's a use tax. So if u bought from another state, to register in CA you will need to pay a use tax which = sales tax on the price of purchased car. Exception car is not new (meaning it has something like 30k miles before u bring it into CA. If Capone can't escape taxes, what makes u think u can? Lol

Another good reason to leave Kommiefornia. I left CA in 2004 once my daughter got out of high school and went to UCI. What are you waiting for? Going to get better?? Three guarantees in life.............Taxes ......Death....Rockies/Cubs suck......Cubs are actually pretty good this year.

I paid $500 for my Tundra and I literally just paid $329 for my wife's 4Runner a few hours ago online. Both are 2015's.

Padres are very good about supporting the troops plus they usually find a way to beat my Dodgers. All is good. :oldglory:

Hello everyone, I know this thread is old. Just got my registration for my 21 Tundra. Came out to 783. This is the most I’ve ever paid in registration. Is this supposed to be this high?
    Registration fee 262
    License fee 336
    Weight fee 154
    County fee 11
    Smog abatement fee 20.
This is the first time paying the tags on this truck so just wanna make sure it’s correct. thanks

Yah man, it's a lot - I don't remember the exact amount, but I do remember mine being close to, if not over $800.

Yes. Your registration will go generally down as the vehicle ages. There are ways to mitigate the weight fee, but that involves investing a lot of money in and finding the right person with the DMV.

There's some discussion on the California registration fees here - you'll find there's another 2021 that is paying over $700: https://www.tundras.com/threads/ca-residents-paying-weight-fees-of-registration-renewals.91167/

    1. Value of the vehicle 2. California considers pickup trucks commercial vehicles, so they're subject to the weight fee on registration, while cars are not.

I have a car that's newer than my truck, but isn't as valuable. Even though my truck doesn't have that commercial weight fee, it still costs more than the the car to register presumably because of declared value.

Any new truck is gonna be pretty expensive in every way here. Higher registration, higher insurance, you name it. My truck is a 2003 and its around $200 every year. It did go up a few years ago.
