Seems to be a common problem amongst hybrids

That’s what it looks like I only seen one more here on the forums with the same issue.

it sucks because with my Tacoma I never was worried about leaks or looking for things like I do with the tundra.

I had the same thing on my hybrid, see my post here. Unfortunately, I never addressed this issue and eventually traded the truck back in to the dealer, waiting on my '23 now.

If you don't mind, please let us know what the dealer finds/think it is, I'm curious to know!

Truck is in the dealer since last Thursday and they opened a case with Toyota and doing some test to see what’s going on, I looked at your post but mine is only leaking on the front and no grinding or creaking noises, I’m gonna wait and see what they find.

for what it’s worth my cousin works there and he said a non hybrid sr5 (I know hybrid is not an option on sr5) had the same issue but he said the guy never came back, his guess is he traded the truck for a different brand or at a different dealer.

How is this for towing? Torque bump?

I would keep it stock towing. Its possible they are estimating various temperatures, like EGT’s and Cat temps, and because its spoofing the air load it may be miscalculating them. Its fine for daily driving but i would be worried about it under sustained high load like towing.

Towed about 5k with E30 blend and the highest boost map. No problems. The JB4 hooks up to your obd2 port and does not estimate anything. It takes those readings into account and will decrease the commanded psi accordingly, just like the stock ecu does as well. You could always drop it down to map1 for a mild bump in psi if you're scared. I wouldn't worry about it since the oem fail safes are still active and will kick in if needed by pulling timing and/or dropping commanded boost.

JB4 leaves the OEM fail-safes untouched.

It tricks the ECM into making more power through modifying a few sensor values. Importantly, it is not modifying the a/f nor any temp sensors, which an ECM will use to verify proper operation.
The JB4 just pushed the ECM deeper into it's pre-programmed mapping for more power. The extra power being made is actually within the parameters of what Toyota loaded into the ECM.

But, take the Ecoboost for example. Its exhaust manifold temperatures and some of the exhaust temperatures are calculated based on air load and RPM. If it thinks the air load is lower than it is, then it is calculating the wrong temperatures and those OEM fail-safe as effectively lifted just like the manifold pressure. Those temperatures are used to control AFR and load to help protect the engine and cats.

Mayde the Tundra uses actual sensors, IDK, but unless you and Eddie are experts in the finer elements of the iforce tuning, then you cannot say with any certainty that the failsafes are untouched. As far as the engine is concerned it is operating completely stock and acting accordingly.

You missed my point about estimating. I am not talking about the JB4, I am talking about the PCM.

Fair enough (BTW I have owned boosted vehicles with JB4 previously) I don't care to get into pedantic online arguments anyway.

I don't own JB4/Berger Tuning so it's no skin off my back

Was it in a truck hauling a trailer up a hill under high load for minutes straight?

I'm no 2022 Tundra expert. And I suppose neither are you, or are you?
Have you owned JB 4 product before? Had one on my GTI and now on my Q60.
I managed to destroy the DSG transmission at 20k miles staying in boost frequently over a big mountain pass. Broke the transmission, not the engine. Not a JB issue.

I'll let actual Tundra techs chime in, but you bring up Ecoboost and I bring up other vehicles. It just seems like bickering to me.

Gotcha, I didn't even think about towing when someone mentioned fail-safes.

Like I said, I broke a JB4 equipped GTI DSG in the mountains, so I'm definitely not going to suggest someone run JB 4 in the mountains, towing.

I still don't think it'll hurt the motor, I'd be more concerned with getting to cocky with extra boost while towing and either overdo the brakes or transmission.

I have been running the jb4 tune on my 2022 sr5 non hybrid for weeks now and love it. Will never take it off map5, highest map available for now. Yes you need to mix some fuel at the pump but how easy is that? I have a “Dragy” device in my truck too and the zero to sixty and quarter mile times have dropped pretty nicely. Don’t want to give out my specific numbers in case I am next to one of you knuckleheads at a red light!! :bananadance:

To avoid derailing the thread, I’ll just say it moves pretty good for its size. Everything is going turbo 4 or 6 it seems. I’m gonna live out the glory days a while longer, but am interested in how the new V6s perform with the JB4. I wish someone had some dragy times to post so I’d have a better idea….

Obviously not a TRX, but for a huge arse heavy truck the 2022 Tundra’s twin turbo v6 is much smoother and quicker than I expected. I am not one for having stock anything so hopefully when someone comes out with a twin turbo upgrade kit I will be a buyer. Will be interesting to see how the engine block/trans/rear end stand up to much more power. Guess we will all find out sooner or later……

Yea, the grinding and creaking was not the issue, it turned out that the front diff self-destructed, but regardless, it was still leaking oil.

Let me know if/what they come back with, definitely not normal I'd think! Unless its residual oil from the assembly.

Do we know if the JB4 works on the Hybrid version as well?

Other than the JB4, are there any tuners out there for the '22+ Tundra?

Anyone have any performance to report? Specifically with the pump gas tune Map 2. I emailed Burger asking if Map 3 is safe with 93 pump gas and haven’t heard back. I’m guessing they won’t know for sure until they get logs from users for them to review.
