Has anyone experienced a grinding noise on highway drive or around town, either in Hybrid or gas mode? Mostly noticeable between 55-65mph, I'll try to see if I can upload a video.

I'm at 700 miles and cruising on the highway, and lots of grinding/clunking sound, seems like it's coming from front end, seems like the transmission/electric motor.

Not sure, but shouldn't be seeing oil leaking from the electric motor, both from front and rear of the motor.

At least these things are showing up right away and obvious. I'd rather that, than it happening years down the line and be questioning what went wrong. This is obviously an issue! Hope the dealership treats you well.

I'm also hoping it goes well, even though I didn't buy from them!

Update from my dealer, the front differential engages and disengages by itself when driving, causing the binding/clunking/grinding when driving.

Issue, they do not know how to repair it... They've reached out to Toyota Corporate to get more info/news on what and how to repair it.

I think I might have a similar issue, they are replacing my front passenger side axle as they believe this is the issue. It comes and goes, will hear it one day then not hear it for a week.

Could very well be the same issue, all I know, my dealer does not know what to do to fix it, which I'm à bit worried

I’ll let you know if this works once I get it done, part is on back order… what my shop did was put it in the air and drove the truck, pretty sure this is how they diagnosed it.

That sucks dude, I’m really disappointed in the quality of the new Tundra. I thought it would be Toyota bullet proof reliable the way it was talked up and all the on road testing they did before launch.

Wonder if it only Hybrid related, seeing you have a Pro... Maybe more torque going to the front/diff and creating the issue.

I know they did 2 road test, of approx 10 miles each, not sure if they put it in the air to figure it out

Yeah not sure, I tried to google it when it first happened and could not find anyone with the issue. Also had to take it to two different dealers. First one was in Lufkin Tx and they had no clue, called the corporate guy and he wasn’t sure either. 2nd dealer was in houston and they took a much better approach to figuring it out. They gave me the truck back while the wait on the part to come in. Is your issue consistent or off and on like mine?

I PM'ed you, to get some additional info/dealer etc, let's try to get the dealers to talk, and see if it could be the same thing.

Mine seems to be pretty consistent, every drive, or at least the 3-4 last drives I took it did it. Hopefully they figure it out, they have the week, as I borrowed my father's Tacoma to pull my camping trailer for the week.

just an fyi, the old tundras has issues too, especially the 07’s when they launched. Every vehicle has its issues, the biggest problem is the rise of social media and forums so we hear about all this stuff first hand vs in the past it was easy to not see/ hear any of it

I came from a 2020 that had issues ! Every vehicle is gonna have its own issues.

Thanks for posting and keeping us updated. I’m at 2100 miles and 2 hard tow trips and no issues yet so far.

Update once again, after a week long of testing demanded by Toyota Corporate, almost 55 miles of road test, videos, photos, computer logging, etc. it was determined that the front differential needs to be replaced (which is what we had determined the first day), but Toyota Corporate needed to ensure that it was indeed the diff.

Note that in the computer logs, everything was working as expected, the solenoids, the shifting, the 4x4 engagement, etc, but mechanically, it wasn't working at all!!

The dealer drained the oil in the front diff, and surprise, lots of chunks and metal shavings came out, and lots on the magnetic drain plug (photo attached isn't mine, but similar outcome). This is when Toyota Corporate acknowledged the problem and gave the thumbs up to change the diff.

Also, there is a FTC (not sure what that means) from Toyota Corporate that will be looking at the truck today.
