Truck is in for my 10k service. Dealer called me and said they could not find TSB 0036-19.

Dealer also will not perform recall on the Precollision sensor as my truck has a slight lift and does not have stock wheels/tires. Bummer because it was acting up BEFORE I ever modified.

Just confirming that this exists somewhere, even if we can’t find it. Google pulled up a result from an insecure ftp directory for a dealer. Check out the last item on the summary description:

So I called around in Jacksonville, FL and found out that one here in town has the TSB. I have a scheduled appointment in a few weeks to get it done (I wont be available until then; they were ready asap).

Called my dealer, they know about the TSB. Said the fix is on a case by case basis. They need to diagnose if your truck has the problem first. I need to setup an appointment still to get that diagnosis done.

BTW went on a multi-day camping trip (just got back) and the 30 watt resistor works perfectly fine for me. As soon as I take that resistor out, I get the trailer to disconnect and reconnect at random intervals. One of the sudden reconnects was kinda scary, happened right when I was braking hard, resulting in a full lockup of the trailer wheels and a bunch of rubber smoke.

Ouch! I'll be curious to see whether they diagnose your truck positively or not, considering you've experienced the issue first hand. It'll be a bit of a blow to my confidence in them if they come back and say your truck is fine in the inspection.

We'll see how they diagnose it. I'm assuming that since it took so long for the TSB to come out, Toyota engineers actually came up with a good way to diagnose the problem. But if not, I have video as proof. Plus my trailer of course :)

Can you post a pic with the cover off? So you wired one end of the resistor to the blue wire and the other end to the white ground wire?

I just returned from a 1000 mile camping trip hauling a small single axle TT. I posted earlier in this thread as I installed a 6 Ohm resistor. It worked perfectly the entire time.
I experienced no heat at all on the resistor and good trailer braking.
I went to the junction box on the trailer and connected the resistor to the blue (leaving the existing light blue and black connected) and then the other end of the resistor to frame ground outside the box and mounted the resistor to the bottom of the trailer frame using a small self-tapping screw.
To me, this is obviously an issue with Tundra's not sensing the trailer due to very low resistance, most likely on newer single axle trailers.

Damn it man! Quit making simple solutions to our complex problems. It takes all the fun out of being puckered up over this issue.

Which size resistor did you use?? 30?

HAHA, you're welcome :) Yes that is a 30 ohms resistor rated at 25 watts (more than plenty). Just under $9 for two of them from Amazon. See link here. The 7 pin connectors you can get anywhere.

Went to my dealer, and they re-flashed the brake controller for me. Apparently they have a way to diagnose the problem with a "box" and found it did indeed exist on my truck. Haven't had a chance to hook up the trailer and try it out, will do so soon.

Uncovered my 2009 eco trailer ( 4700lb ) after the winter and hooked it up to my 2019 for the first time with fingers crossed, got a good connection with no problem , i set the gain to 5 and tested the trailer brakes and got the tires locked (at 30 mph). Went down to 4.5 and that did it . My truck was put together Jan 2019 per the door sticker

Hello everyone, I took Keith's advise and tried the resistor on my trailer and it finally worked and hasn't yet given me the disconnect message. I tried the IBC on two other trailers and it worked fine. But this particular trailer I had issues. I'm glad I came across this thread. Now I can travel without being a little nervous. Thanks.

Hello all. New to This forum and I must say I am having the same problem with my truck not recognizing my trailer as being connected, hence no brakes. The lights and all else work fine but not brakes. Fortunately the trailer came with a wireless brake controller that works well but I was really hoping to get rid of some clutter in the cabin. Oh well. On a side note I am running an ecofuel OBDII fuel economy chip in it. The difference is noticeable to say the least. An improvement of around 2-3 litres per 100 km. Well worth the money that was.

New 2019 DC owner, towing CampLite 16BHB, 3400# on the axle loaded. We towed this with our Equator (Frontier) CC for 2 years with no problems. Hooked up to the new Tundra last Saturday and got the 'No Trailer Connected" error after programming in the brake type. Thanks to all of you on this forum and this thread, when I took the truck into the dealer Monday morning I was able to tell them about TSB0039 2019. They tested the controller, reflashed the ecu and my controller works! Holy S--t! this truck hauls with a trailer behind it! I found that S5 and Tow/Haul works well, keeps the revs down and doesn't hunt between 5th and 6th. Thanks to all of you for the great information. BTW, I agree that the P3 is a better controller than the Toyota controller.

Had my first camping trip, around 500 miles driven and no issues with my truck/ trailer connection , gain was set to 4.5 and was more then enough to get my trailer brakes engaged without lock

Did you get readings from your transmission temp / torque while towing ?

So is the TSB the correct fix for this??? Or is the dealership going to tell me that my perfectly fine trailer has issues???

I just bought a brand new 2019 and it dings at me that the trailer is connected/reconnected every 30 seconds while towing. This is driving me crazy and I can’t get it to stop. I have a trailer hooked up quite often and I can’t even drive with it like this. Lights all work but it keeps disconnecting and I’m losing my trailer brakes.

THIS IS BULL SHIT! This is a truck, this is what trucks are built for

I sympathize with your feelings, take it into the dealer and give them the TSB#. Tell them about the connection issue and that MANY trucks are reported with the same issue. Re-flashing the ECU will fix the problem IF the trailer has no issues. I had been towing my TT for 2 years with an Equator/Frontier/P3 with no problems so knew the TT wiring and brakes were good.

I got my 2018 crewmax 4wd with tow package reflashed and it's now worse than before. Instead of trailer disconnected every 20-30 miles, I now get it every 10 seconds. The trailer brakes work fine on my old Tacoma and my dad's 02 Tundra with the old school brake controller. I tried to take out the factory brake controller, took the battery off overnight, and it still says trailer brake error. I've owned 8 Toyotas and this is pretty disappointing.

Was that after applying the TSB above? I’ve got an appointment today I hope this is not my outcome

TSB0039 2019 is the tech service bulletin number I gave the service writer. They checked the brake connectivity with their tester and duplicated the connectivity fault then performed the TSB and it cleared the fault. It worked on my truck/trailer on a 40 mile test run. We're taking the rig to the Oregon coast in a couple of weeks so should have a definitive answer then.
