    hi there ,

I got my new 2019 tundra crewmax sr5 with tow package and tow/ haul button.
Went under the truck looking for the transmission thermostat to pin it open per the previous threads I read as I will be towing my camper soon.
I cannot find this thermostat anywhere , not sure if it was relocated or removed all together or maybe I am missing it .
I am new into this , any help would be greatly appreciated
    Thank you

The 2019 does not have the oil cooler as in previous models. The thermostat takeoff to install one is not there. (Found out when I bought mine). The cooling is described as integrated engine/transmission oil cooling. I think it uses the coolant to remove heat when the oil is hotter than the coolant. There is some thermostat controlled tripping point when this kicks in but I don't know what it is. The previous system kicked in around 225 deg. F. Hopefully a master tech can clue us in. It may be adjustable via Techstream.

The only lines going to/from the trans are coolant. Looks like the warmer is now dual purpose. If you can monitor temperature, would be interested to see what you are getting pulling something heavy. I only pull light loads (1500/2200#), but have seen 222 deg. F going up long steep grades. My 2008 never got that hot.

I've always wondered by Toyota has a separate system. Cooling with the radiator has long been used with many other manufactures.

I am not sure how to install supplemental cooler , tried to follow the lines and it is so confusing.
I will be towing my camper 4000 to 5000 pounds in the next couple months , wonder if the new system is better then the 2014-2018 model

I'd say it is as good or better. It will probably keep the fluid at a more consistent temperature.

The only way to add a cooler would be to install part no. 32970-34030. The is the thermostat/fluid takeoff like older models have. It goes between the warmer and the trans housing. About $200. Then you would need lines and a cooler of choice. Over my DIY ability.

Yeah looks like you are right on this , all I see is the coolant lines getting out of that warmer .hope someone will chime in and let us know their experience with heavy towing and if the new system is keeping temp under control

Would a larger radiator with increased heat transfer area and an additional electric fan help with cooling the transmission on the 2019s? The AB60F seems to run hot. Does torque converter lock-up always occur in 4th, or just in 5th and 6th?

    200 to 230 F. Most trucks tow at 185 F.

You should stay in the same range as your coolant temps. I'd complain and take it back to the dealer.

    No I don't have a 2019. Towing a 20 ft 7500 lb tandem axle.

Still can't find any thread reporting transmission temp while towing with the 2019 tundra , my first towing trip will be end of May , just used the attached screen shot to get reading of pan and torque temps in my torque pro app, drove the truck with outside temp at 59 Fahrenheit, the torque temp went up to 201.9 while stopping and accelerating and pan to 193 with engine coolant being at 194.
Both torque and pan would drop to 192 or little less while cruising .this is all flat ground with no hills

Larger radiator and additional fan wouldn't help unless the cooling system was inadequate for engine operating conditions as well.

Coolant connections to the transmission come off a hose to the cabin heater core, and the return is on the heater core return hose. Temperature of coolant to the transmission is therefore regulated by the engine cooling thermostat, and as long as the cooling system has enough capacity to maintain the engine temp, then the transmission temp will be the engine thermostat set temperature.

That is what I observed today at least at the pan temp , it was close to the engine coolant temp

I have driven 4000 miles with mine. Past weekend drove about 250 miles on I81. Cruising at 70mph my pan temp was running 207 to 210 at outside temp of around 80F Torque conv higher when unlocked then back down to pan. Coolant around 194F. This was all with no towing. Towing my light aluminum trailer and UTV on a similar run would get an average of 215 on the sump and a lower overall speed and no 6th gear unless going downhill.

I pulled my ATV/trailer to Clarksville, TN and back last weekend. About 800 miles in 90-95 temps. Nearing Nashville in a headwind, the pan crept up to 218 deg. after staying near 213 most of the trip. The terrain is rolling with some steeper sections. This was maintaining 65 mph. Ran a bit cooler coming back with tailwind and going downhill more. Headwind makes a big difference. Avoid cruise control for less heat.

Took my first camping trip yesterday, pulling around 4200 lbtrailer , outside temp 82 to 86 f , tow mode on and S4 selected , speed 55 to 60 mph most of time , trans temp 215 average , torque converter temp 217 to note that it went up to 229 when stopping for tolls and accelerating and goes down to 215-217. This is going from Massachusetts to Vermont , so hills and flat at a time . I will report back my way back .also I will be checking my temp without the trailer hooked to see what I get.

On the way back from Vermont to ma , we had rainy weather and outside temp was 64 and then went up to 78 . Trans temp was 212 on average and torque 214 with peaks at 224 for a very brief time when accelerating from a stop and then back to the average

Oh and I forgot to add , got 10.7 mpg average on the way up to Vermont and 11.7 mpg on the way back to MA

That sounds like the new normal from what I am hearing. I have gotten similar values pulling steep grades this summer albeit with light loading.

Yes looks like it , I have checked ford f150 forums and looks like the Ford's are having similar trans temp readings .
So I think we should be good , will probably get my trans fluid changed at the dealer on the 30k or 50k miles to be on safe side , I pull the trailer around 6 to 7 times a year , I would change it on the 30k if constantly towing
