Android Headunit

The Phoenix HU turns the factory "USB" plug in the truck to a charging only USB. However, the Phoenix HU can retain and use the factory "AUX" plug directly under the stock USB plug.

On the picture look like you have the Frac harness? Did it work? or you had to remove it?

 

If there is an adapter from the Phoenix Head Unit to the factory USB/Aux it didn’t come with the v2 fastboot w/knobs they sent me.

If you can post a pic with how you hooked it up to retain the factory usb and aux it would be awesome.

 

Has anybody asked Phoenix?

 

Two parts to this:

USB Plug: I have not tested this myself, but read on the FB forum that the factory USB is supplied power through the connection of the main Phoenix HU harness. I cannot absolutely stand by this since I have not personally tested it.

AUX Plug: I have verified this for I am using the stock aux port for a external XM receiver with the Phoenix. Works like a charm. They do supply an adapter plug with the head unit. It is one of the RCA female type plug adapters that needs to plugged into the male RCA type plugs in the main HU harness. Refer to post #1831 above to see my post with a pic discussing this very thing.

 

I just ordered the unit on the group buy. Yes, I have the FRAC harness, and I am going to see if it retains functionality once I receive and install the unit. Unless someone else has already tested the FRAC harness with a new v2 unit, and I missed the post saying whether or not it works...

 

Got 2 of the yellow rca cable label reversing video in, which one do you plug into the CCD IN?

 

Does the Android unit pull obd2 info from it's connections it are you guys using a Bluetooth obd2 scanner?

Also for the front cam- is it functional only at a certain speed? Trying to figure out what all I'll need before this thing gets here.

 

The android unit does not have a wired OBD connection. Theoretically, you can use a Bluetooth connection, but I have not tried this.

 

Got mine installed yesterday. No issues Found yet with a/c. Once I swapped to Tundra Hi it all seemed to work fine but i also didnt try the heater yet. Had a few small glitches, sound reverting back to 0 and such but nothing major. The sound quality is 24252% better than the jbl "premium" sound.

 

The front and rear cam are full time. The picture quality is poorer than stock though.

 

actually, the package includes a USB adapter for that port, but you lose the AUX in. I have my iphone connected in through that port and going though a carplay adapter, and that part of the radio works.

If the Android unit doesn't have a OBD connection how are people getting some of the visuals on the display such as (rpm, etc?). Is this through an app or just the bluetooth adapter?

 

Comes through some of the can connectionfro the truck that used t go to the old radio

 

Just got it install everything seem working good. Front camera working with frac harness. The outside temp is off. I’m in California temp showing 48

 

Fantastic news about the FRAC harness. I didn’t want to throw the money I spent on it out the window, nor @tundratex’s hard work. Plus I would have two holes / dead switches in my panel for where I mounted the two FRAC harness switches.

 

Wtf.. Just pull off the screen protector and notice there’s a small crack on scree.. Shit should of check before install.Waited for almost a month for this.

Not the first time we’ve heard of damaged units arriving, but Phoenix seemed to be pretty quick to replace...

Yea suck.. called them and voice mail came on said that they are at a show won’t be back till Nov 2. Hope I don’t have to wait another month to get a replacement.

 

What’s the FRAC harness for? Can I buy a waterproof front-view camera and plug it directly into the side view yellow? (as I’ve read that gives instant on when pressing the camera icon)

 

The outside temp is not sipported for the Tundra. Per Phoenix it's for other vehicles and should've been hiddened for the Tundra.

 

My first gen defaults to the side cam when the icon on the top is pushed, on the install of my 2nd gen I'm going to wire my front cam to the side cam outlet so it is one touch for the front cam. This should work I hope as long as the head unit defaults to the side cam as it does now. I just got home from 47 days of work and got the 2nd gen yesterday, hopefully I can get in tomorrow. Here a little help for the front cam install.

Another thing I would like to check on (if I have time) would be to figure out a way to have the front cam to come on when truck is in 1st gear or try to find a way to turn on when fwd motion is below 5 mph.
