No way in hell they can do all of that in that time frame. My guess, they dumped the oil and slapped in a filter. BTW, they all have torque specs. The filter housing, the drain plug. It takes time to do a proper job. I would understand you being leery.

Make sure to get the oil filter drain tool from Motiva. With that tool I didn’t spill a drop.

Just had my 30K maintenance done. Today I noticed a small puddle of what smells like gear fluid. Dealership did change transfer case oil and differential as per book. Noticed the oil dripped off the skid plate onto the ground. Not sure if they overfilled, or residual oil left over from the change. Anyone experienced this before? Unrortnally no pics noticed before work.

Even overfilled, if the plug is tight it won’t leak. Maybe they were sloppy and it’s residual but I wouldn’t take that chance. Bring it back and demand they clean it up and check for leaks.

I have to drive 70 miles back to the dealership. That sucks but I don’t need problems in the future either.

I've not heard of transmissions going out on the 5.7, and this is a 13 year old design that's also found in the Sequoia, Land Cruiser and LX. Unless those use a different transmission.

    Care to elaborate?

Sure thing. The 30/90k mile service is just a fluid level check, solenoid function check, and it was done free of charge. This may not be the case with other dealerships.

Two different service advisors told me if these checks/services are not done, and the transmission fails before the warranty (even extended or CPO), warranty coverage has been denied.

A couple members on another site I was on had failures within the warranty period. Warranty denied due to missed services.

I could see that, gives Toyota an out for not paying for what they see as negligence of care. I will start to do my own service once I am out of warranty period.

I don’t doubt this at all but it pisses me off that I have to throw away money just to have a record of someone “claiming” to do all the inspections. I changed all my fluids, did the inspections myself other than cycle that solenoid because I’m not to sure how and what to do. I suppose I’ll call and see what they charge for the 30.

Well I'd fight that if a transmission failed within 36k miles because the solenoids weren't cycle tested. I'd make Toyota prove that by not having that simple test done every 3 years is what caused a whole transmission needing to be replaced. Doesn't sound like Toyota quality and reliability to me.

I searched around and didn't find more info on this transmission failure so it must be a 1 in 100k thing.

Agreed. I’ve done all the shit they tell me on the 30 myself, have it documented and receipts to prove it. I’m not bringing it in so they can jerk around for an hour and then tell me I owe them 200 bucks.
That tranny is pretty damn bullet proof.

I can't remember ever seeing a transmission failure under 60K miles. Most of the ones I have seen are between 75-100K miles. Since my check at 30K was free (with a little top off of fluid), and it didn't take long...I was happy to have it documented in case something happened since the truck had a CPO 100K warranty. Toyota did the 60K service for 200.00, and had all plans of the 90K check, but sold my Tundra just before the mileage requirements.

Back in the day, I learned a hard lesson about warranties with Dodge. At 42K miles, a technician wadded up my Cummins and took no responsibility for it. They pretty much wrote me off and told me to piss up a rope, and good luck fighting them in court. Another reason I will never own another Dodge/Ram or even anything with a Cummins in it ever again. Having owned two diesels with cummins motors...not impressed.

Just got new tires put on my truck yesterday at the local Goodyear tire shop and they tried to charge me $140+ to do a factory “recommended” 15k mile fuel system flush. I said no thanks it’s still under factory warranty I can take it to the dealership and have it done for free. Not sure why but it annoys the crap out of me... I brought my truck to them to put new tires on it, not to go under my hood and start poking around looking for additional services they can perform at a ridiculous price on a my truck that doesn’t even have 25k on it. Has anyone else done this recommended 15k mike fuel system flush? I have a ‘91 4runner with 426k on it and a ‘01 Tacoma with 290k on it and never once have I ever done a fuel system flush on either of them..

At this point, I would pull out the owners manual and ask them were it states a fuel system flush at 15K miles.

Next time get your tires someplace else...

15k -30 k fuel system flush is dealer add on service. I just got done 30 k mile service. I have prepaid maintenance contract from Toyota. Dealer was trying to add on another 180 dollars for oil flux coating and fuel system flush and break fluid change for 549 all in.

Told the service advisor no thanks stick to factory maintenance schedule only, service advisor starts throwing tantrum regarding how hot is in Texas you will loose warranty.

Told him “ stick to factory specified service , if something happens and Toyota denies warranty I ll fight in court.”

I think factory service for 30k is listed at 189 at the dealership.

So even under factory warranty you still have to pay the $189 for the 30k service? I bought my 2016 CM used back in April with only 16k miles on it from a non-Toyota dealership and it wasn’t explained very clearly what all the factory warranty would cover as far as service goes? Also what is oil flux coating? I’ve never heard that before.

Free service are till 25k only. I didn’t pay a thing because I have prepaid maintenance till 100 k.

Oil flux is supposed to be engine oil additive. That adds special layer of protection new trucks come with it good for only 25k - “According to dealer”

No maintenance is included in a Warranty. They are two separate things.
