Hi, i have a 2011 Rock Warrior and i have been having some major problems with it. First it started out as a bad vibration, so i took it to a mechanic and also a dealer and both said nothing was weong with the feont end, u-joints, or tires, so i have continuted to drive it and it has gotten worse over time. Just a few days ago it started to shift real bad, like when im slowing down it will shift up and down amd up and down. Once moving again it will change gears and it will shift so hard that it feels like i am getting rear ended. Now for the past two days the truck feels like it is lunging over and over again, like once i get to my cruising speed you can feel the truck lunging really bad. Has anyone else had this problem, im worried the truck is gonna break down, please help asap! Thank you!

TRD Air Filters, Front door windows tinted to match the rears. Wheel locks, Talons Garage cat shield, Tyger Automotive soft tonneau cover, WeatherTech floor mats with Tuff Skinz Custom Emblem kit, Toyota OEM Emblem Black Out kit. AVS vent covers on all four doors, Red Tundra letters on front bumper & TRD highlighted in Red on front grille. Tailgate Tundra Letters in Black.
Looks like your out of warranty so I would take it to a transmission specialist like Aamco.

Sounds more like a tranny problem to me.

Dumb question, have you checked the trans fluid condition and level?

I agree if the Shifting sucks it's a tranny issue, maybe a flood victim rig from Florida and resold. U- joint?

Unfortunately with modern cars and computer control systems it can be difficult to diagnose without the right tools and software. So much of what a transmission does is based on signals received from the transmission and engine sensors. Barring any obvious problems like low fluid or corroded/failed wiring, and in the absence of a suggestion from a tundra owner who has experienced the same issue, it sounds like it's going to be a job for a qualified shop who is willing to put in the effort. Hard shifting definitely sounds like a transmission issue but I have also seen similar problems caused by the engine computer giving bad info to the trans controller. Either way a good shop is probably going to be your best bet. On a positive note, based on what you have described, my first guess would be an electrical/sensor/solenoid issue, which is a lot cheaper than a new trans (all to be taken with a grain of salt of course). I hope you get a spot on suggestion from another owner or you find an awesome shop.

I had similar transmission problems in a jeep that made it's way into a few to many pounds.Basically I took apart every electrical plug I could find including the ECU and applied some dielectric grease. It solved the transmission erratic shifting and a few other engine related problems.

    TUNDRA RW,

Unfortunately you don’t know if the previous owner in PA did any heavy towing.

Our owners manual specified that at certain mileage intervals of having the tranny serviced but only for when you perform daily heavy towing like car carriers etc.

CarFax only reports what was reported. So the previous owner might have also done his own maintenance and might have done something incorrectly. You hope not but it could happen.

I actually had this same issue in my 2005 Tundra. Garage told me I needed a new transmission. Second opinion said it was some sensing module in the transmission and replaced that. Problem did not go away. Turned out it was a wiring problem in the transmission plug. Prone to corrosion. I picked up a harness off a junked Sequoia and they wired it in and the problem was fixed.

Thanm you guys for all the help! Ill go out and check all of the connections on my next day off. I really hope its something simple like a wire connection. I would say whoever had it before did tow, because where you hook the trailer chains one of them is bent pretty good.

I hate it when shops are too quick to condemn a part without checking all of the other possibilities. I bet the mechanic never got up under your truck, he probably just plugged in the computer, saw a bad value and concluded that the module was bad. Back in the day, when cars were much less complex, you could diagnose most problems without too much poking and prodding; but today there are just too many things that can cause the same issue and you have to check them all before you can make any definitive statements about what is wrong.

Tundra RW, let us know what you find with the plug. Its always good to hear how these things turn out. We all learn from each other.

Did you check the connections before or after your "trouble free" drive to work?

I came across this post on another forum that might be of use to you:

    https://www.tundratalk.net/forums/t...sues/602881-vibration-may-finally-solved.html

Read the whole thing, there is a lot of good info. Intermittent problems are always the hardest. I have had drivers come in telling me that their vehicle is falling apart and when I drive it there are no issues. It takes a dedicated mechanic to keep trying to duplicate the problem and not assume that the driver is just overreacting. Keep at it, there is always a solution.
