so I get my exhaust settled and then I get a check engine+4lo+slip..etc. the trans acted a little the funny the night before but back to normal. Check the code and it’s a solenoid c stuck open..figure I’m due for a flush and whatever so I went to Toyota to have it flushed and filled..with no inspection of anything no fluid level check or anything (could be bone dry) and it’s immediately “u need a new transmission, also the code changes to other solenoids which tell me that it’s not a individual but prolly something like low fluid? estimated $7,200 on a 2007 Tundra Limited 4x4 Trd SC 104k miles..seem strange to anyone else that accessment was made over one silenoid ? And without checking to see if they’re was any fluid? Also if this is the case I’ll prolly go for a rebuild, is they’re any better package to get rather then oem stuff that obviously is failing?

    Considering 2nd Gen Tundra
was that to completely replace the Transmission or to just replace the solenoids?

That was to put a brand new trans in from Toyota. It’s at a trans shop now, said it was a few qts short, never been changed, same filter and leaking from the rear of the gasket (said that’s rare) & the pan was clean and clear of metal. Just seemed weird to have a truck that shifts amazing, step on it and it just goes, to a bad trans in 1 ride. You see on tv these hucksters rolling old people for they’re pension, I watch it in Toyota’s service dept yesterday on a mass scale. Wonder if them people have a conscience? So I’m hoping the oil change and the proper amount of fluid keeps them solenoids from sticking and I’m back to eating hemi’s and shitting raptors

That’s typical of a dealership, wanting to replace the whole transmission without pinpointing the exact issue.

I’d be finding a good auto transmission shop that hopefully has some Aisin experience. Even replacing the entire valve body would be a bargain compared to your quote.

Edit. I took a long time to post that. Sounds hopefull.

Iv been doing my research and have found that IPT performance is pretty close to me (philly) - (central NJ), so if I need anything serious I’m thinking of calling them for some advice on what they have to help make a bad situation into a possible thing to look fwd to. It would just come down to turn around time as this is my everyday vehicle. Does anyone know if they’re valve bodies are good for everyday driven vehicle?

Does anyone know of where I can get a valve body that comes with the silenoids? I beleive these shift kits reuse the your old ones and if ones burnt then my problem will continue and then I might just hang it up (meaning me;)

I would do a complete trans fluid exchange first, and probably replace the solenoid that threw the code. Then see how it is. Also, I would inspect the main trans harness for signs of damage or fluid being pushed into it.

I had a code for solenoid d on my 2010 at just under 60k. I could tell it was going cause it shifted weird and held gears and hesitated from p to d. Still pulled a uhaul with about 3k #s 1500 miles. Then dealer replaced it under warranty with a refurbished one. That one was going 30k later when I traded it in at about 90k miles.

There is probably a manual that dealers go by that says to replace it and not repair it. If you replace it make sure you get a new one and not refurbished.

Dealerships will only do a "Remove and Replace" the business model isn't built around doing a rebuild to pretty much anything. And frankly, I wouldn't trust them to. Hit a legit Transmission shop (Locally owned) that has been around a while and they'll give you the real story on what you need or don't need. If they are advertising a bunch on TV etc, don't go to them, the good shops don't need to advertise and base their reputation on word of mouth, they can't afford to rip folks off.

I brought it to a reputable place, guys seemed excited to mess with a Sc tundra, said they’re rare to see with trans issues. Pan was clean/fluid never changed and little low. He wants to swap the valve body with all new silenoids for $1,600 does that fair/smart plan? Said he can do just the silenoid but to bolt it back up hoping it’s just the silenoid and not a valve/valves causeing that silenoid? Also spoke with someone at ipt and recommend a silenoid because he said it’s rare for a valve to cause it or fail? Any thoughts?

I called that place in CO to see if they’re valve bodies come with the silenoids or if they’re expecting to reuse mine. I haven’t heard back yet. I went to the dealership nearest to me and where I got the truck which is Toyota of Bensalem on old Lincoln highway & route 1

I would take it to a shop that will test the solenoids, not just jump to selling you new ones. Highly unlikely the valve body has anything to do with it. There is a chance there is a bigger issue if more than one failed at the same time.

I have the AB60E /ab60F transmission , have been cruising here and TT for info and found that most people change the silenoids in question and have had success. Can anyone tell me if shift silenoid D is: part #35240-50050
And shift silenoid c is transmaxx 147423B?

I’m not in the know enough to help you on that question, but my curiosity is aroused. Yes. Just my curiosity. Trannys don’t do it for me THAT way.

You had earlier said that it was several quarts low on fluid with a leak from the pan gasket. Well, since the pan capacity is a bit over 3 quarts, doesn’t it make sense that low main pressure is the cause of the faults for solonoids stuck open? Note that the code isn’t for the solenoid circuit, ie, it isn’t drawing enough current, or too much current, but rather that it isn’t performing as expected, AKA, stuck open. If it were mine, I’d fill it with new fluid after correcting the leak and see where it goes from there.

I could be wrong. I probably am, as my knowledge of the inner workings of an automatic transmission is pretty rudimentary. But I also don’t think multple issues randomly happen at the same time. And remember, you didn’t pay much for this advice. ;)

No it was free lol, I was thinking along the same lines. It’s full now, it slipped a few times last night on the highway but I’m not sure if it was the trans or the fact that I just reinstalled the Bullydog software that I removed to goto the dealer. It really felt good at points but I remember strange shift points when I initially installed it a few months back. BD made me update to a new tune after a error occurred occurred and said it needed to be updated to the newest version, I guess grasping at straws I was hoping the old version was making my truck shift weird. So hard to find these silenoid part numbers

Silenoid was good, the transmission guy drove with me and it completely missed and neutralled trying to going into to 5th as we stared at the snap on transmission scanner. So he recently did some work on a tundra IPT trans and can build mine to them specs for around 3,800-4 installed?

That’s not horrible...we used to do 500 hp trans for 24-36 months for around 38-4200.

Upside is he’s within walking distance from my house, said drop it Monday and get it back Thursday at the latest The valve body will be torn out ASAP sent to a shop that does only that, test all silenoids/do all the mods/replace the valves. And he’ll start the gutting the trans.

Boy I really hope this doesn’t turn out to be a Ecu issue after diving into this, I only say cause lately my BD unit has been way off with rpms/mph/throttle position...etc and that’s when the trans starts to shift weird. I did remove the program from the BD when I went to the stealership and still got the p2714 code but I hope I’m not missing anything.

Since you guys seem to know and some of you have done these builds, would they’re be anything that you would insist to get used for the build? I was looking at the spooling shift kit sold on Dd, the trans mentioned fitting higher quality and more gears into it and machining out the trans and valve body, but w/o the real knowledge about transmission I was semi lost (my wrenching was mainly on 350’s/302’s strapped to a boats). I would love to switch out to a auburn air locker & lose the fake LSD while I’m at it but I just ain’t ready for the bill that comes with that. But if they’re is trans related upgrade id really like to make this upgrade count. Also I’m running 35” muds if that plays any part in ur answer. Also I rarely towupload_2018-12-8_8-38-5.jpg
