Any parts gurus that you guys might suggest I call to find out? Knowledgeable dealer parts guys? Most of my Toyota parts knowledge pertains to older stuff.

Part number 44250-0C041 is an older number that is only for V8, 2WD, Access cab models with the rear sway bar. The new part numbers are 44250-0C031 (instead of 0C030) and 44250-0C042 (instead of 0C041), which are the same price. Oddly enough, there are reman racks available for both as well, and the reman part number is the same part number for both.

Thanks a bunch for the info. Oddly enough, the new part number (44250-0C031) is not referenced at all on the Toyota parts website, but does pull up with a blank entry when searched for directly. It is significantly cheaper than the original (44250-0C030). Could you provide a part number for the reman. unit? I assume it is even cheaper (with core?).

I appreciate your help in getting to the bottom of this!

The reman really isn't too much cheaper, and the availability on it is sketchy. That's why I didn't even include it, but here's a link to it in the store:

So i just dropped 3k in parts lol. After looking at so many different things i just brought all new oem parts from boch. I went to my local toyota dealer and recieved pricing and they gave a decent discount. Then i went online looking for the part numbers and found them cheaper on mcgeorge. They gave me the price of a new steering rack oppse to a reman and difference was about 60 bucks. So i just decided to bite the bullet. Since am replacing almost every component from LBJ, tie rod, link assembly why not order new bilsten 6112 and JBA UCA. And While my car is in the shop might as well have the timing belt done. So i just brought a Aisin timing belt kit. Now i am looking and retrofit headlights lol

Sorry I need to get my head straight with these part numbers, as I too am searching. I have an 04 DC SR5 4x4.
If i plug in my VIN to parts.mcgeorgetoyota.com (plus a few other dealers just to make sure), both 44250-0C041 (with stabilizer), and 44250-0C030 (without stabilizer) show as exact fit.

    So, either will work?

If you want an exact fit for your truck, use this parts system to look it up (bulleted points at the top of this thread): https://www.tundras.com/threads/so-you-wanna-buy-just-bought-a-1st-gen-tundra-eh.115928/

Man!!! That's great, thank you! I had skimmed through that thread before purchasing my truck but completely missed that. Looks like 44250-0C030 is what I need.

    Thank you sir!:hattip:

Crap, I just realized I pasted the wrong link. This is what I meant to paste: https://www.tundras.com/threads/howto-use-the-toyota-parts-system-to-find-order-parts.113808/

Sorry, didn't mean to make you read thru all the extra (although I see the link I just pasted is near the top, which is super handy)

Haha, all good, I was able to find it quickly. Just so I'm clear, @Roman's post (#35) is saying the newer version of this part is 44250-0C031, would I be missing out getting the older version if I found it cheaper?

If it's the case, that would be pretty typical for Toyota. I haven't found a good decoding method for their parts, but what I've noticed is the part numbers are usually 10 digits long, old style separated in the middle by a hyphen, and the last two digits in a 10-digit part number are usually attributes of the part.

Like ... If I had to favor a guess, if a part number was ABCDE-FGHIJ, it seems like the letter in the "I" position pertains to color, and the letter in the "J" position is the version/iteration. I typically only see that "J" position as a 0, 1, 2, or 3. If you look at TSBs, the recall parts often have a "1" or a "2" at the end. I also notice the "ABCDE" portion is a catalog group, i.e. all parts related specifically to the front door may have the same ABCDE prefix.

They also sometimes add on a "-84" at the end of a part number like ABCDE-FGHIJ-84 to indicate something is remanufactured from a core part. For example...

I just searched for 44250-0C030-84 and sure enough, I found an entry for the 44250-0C030 rack (but it's just as expensive):

    PS @Pnwtundy

Never order OEM parts off fleaBay or scAmazon - there's no guarantee they'll be authentic.

If ordering thru dealership Toyota Parts sites, be sure to include your VIN so they can confirm fitment.

If ordering thru non-Toyota-affiliated sites, be sure to call your local dealership and have them confirm fitment of your part against your VIN for sanity's sake.

Don't explicitly trust what myself or someone else on here tells you is correct; once you pay for it, you often can't return it.

Will do, again thank you for all the useful info! I'll confirm when ordering. It's a shame what Amazon has become. Fake parts and fake reviews. Something I also read, actually I think it was on here, is if you see a store name like "Toyota store", it can be fake as well.

Sidenote, if you can't avoid buying other things off Amazon always run the link through fakespot.com, it will grade the product based off of the trustworthiness of its reviews

Ended up ordering from sparksparts. VIN included, and I actually purchased some other parts earlier this week from them...had a few things that didn't work with my truck and they worked with me to find the correct ones. 1 step closer to a basically new front end!

Hey Pnwtundy - which rack did you end up ordering? And how was fitment?

im ordering parts from Ourisman Toyota, the website says #44250-0C041 fits, but they emailed me after the order was placed saying they cant verify fitment for anything other then #44250-0C031 (which is out of stock).

can you or anyone verify if #44250-0C041 fits? Or what the difference between those 2 part numbers is?

    I have an 05, access cab, 4x4, sr5, 4.7L for reference

    thanks in advance

Hey! For me, it was #44250-0C030. Fitment was perfect. Did you provide your vin when ordering? If you did and they confirmed that only that part number would fit, I don't know if I would advise going against them unless you're absolutely sure.

    @Roman

I am looking to replace the steering rack in my 2005 Access Cab, 4x4, 4.7L V8 SR5.

I ordered parts from Ourisman Toyota, their website says #44250-0C041 fits when I put my truck specs and/or VIN in. But they emailed me after the order was placed saying they cant verify fitment for anything other then #44250-0C031 (which is out of stock).

Im inclined to think it the 0C041 would fit based off what i have founds; but im having trouble finding anything definitive.

Based off what you said above can can you verify if #44250-0C041 will fit or what the difference between those 2 part numbers is? only fitment for V8 2WD AC seems super specific.

    thanks in advance

They're going to be working from the same parts system, so chances are he'll come back with the same info. I looked in the system and don't see a re-man OEM option for it, but then when I looked for a non-reman, it shows as being available through Toyota's main parts portal: https://autoparts.toyota.com/products/product/gear-assy-power-steering-442500c031

Usually in cases like these where the part doesn't show "Discontinued" and is out-of-stock, it returns to stock within 6-8 weeks, sometimes much less. But the longer you wait, the farther back in the queue you land.

But seriously, use the Search feature on this forum before you start tagging people in. Roman literally answered this question already: https://www.tundras.com/threads/rack-and-pinion.33255/page-2#post-2735064

@Pnwtundy's part number should work fine based on what Roman said in that reply.

Agreed. I know #44250-0C031 will fit but I am trying to see if #44250-0C041 would fit as well, because it’s $300 less, in stock, and a lot of research is showing they should be interchangeable.

I did search the forum and that’s how I got to this thread. Romans answer you linked me to is exactly what I quoted and why I asked him in particular. Not sure if he is active here though.

The info Roman posted is the most specific I’ve been able to find about #44250-0C041. Everything else is pointing to the fact that those 2 should be interchangeable. The Ourisman website (and other Toyota dealer parts sites) says they both fit, only the parts guy there processing my order is questioning it based off my vin.

I’m also seeing multiple aftermarket steering rack manufactures showing a replacement rack compatible with both those part #s, so seems like they’d be interchangeable. Just trying to find out anything more specific on part #44250-0C041 or if anyone has put it in a 4x4 model.

If you've done the research, buy the part and drop it in. I think we'll all be curious to hear the outcome. I know I am. Trust your gut; worst-case scenario, you can resell the part at a small loss. There's a 25% off sale going on with OEM parts if purchased from certain sources, now is the time to buy, sell the part if it doesn't fit and use the 25% off padding to mitigate loss.
