I did not skip, and would not skip. It will stretch over the boot, although I usually opt for fanless bulbs, and the heatsink is removable. I dunno if the fans are also removable. In my case, I installed the bulb, spun off the heatsink, installed the boot, then reinstalled the heat sink.

See pic #3 in my process (which I pulled from the megathread): https://www.tundras.com/threads/wha...-gen-tundra-today.2558/page-1584#post-3139813

Heatsink is clearly bigger than the boot. I think I stretched the first one before realizing I could unscrew the fat ass heatsink on the bastard, and the 2nd was waaaay easier.

When I did my mini projectors, there was a set screw on the body and I had to "clock" the lights just right so the horizontal cut off was parallel with the ground before I put them in the housings. Took a few tries and was a pain in the ass. Do all these mini projectors need to be clocked into horizontal position before installation or do some drop right in with the 3 fins aligning them correctly??

I believe they require clocking. Mine did. I had new housings so I set them on the counter and looked at the reflection to get it very close.

Why do you think that is??? anyone? I did the same. Got new housings and twisted them based on what I saw in the reflection.

Why do they need to be clocked? Because of the design of the bulb to create the cutoff.

Finding these for over $200 / pair? Do you have a better source?

I guess I answered my own question. If these were made exclusively for Toyota tundra 1st gen, they could make them fixed, but these bulbs will work in a variety of vehicles.

Changing my quote is a little weird, because thats not what I said. There is no right LED in a reflector housings. There is only a spectrum from awful to premium mediocre.

Thanks for the reply. As I mentioned elsewhere, all of the links to the bulbs in all of the threads are all broken. I tried to solicit thoughts on current LED projector options and didn't get many bites, so I just went with the recommended bulbs on the COlight website the Y16. Newest and latest and all that. Didn't know what I was getting. They are really big on the back. I did not look to see if I could detach the fan/heatsink from the back of the bulb. I had to wrap up the project and go to work, so I had to put everything back together without the dust boots.

Do you think I could just cut a slit up the bottom of the boot and wrap it over the back and tape it together at the bottom with duct tape?

Thanks a lot. Unfortunately I didn't see anything about the Y6 before I ordered.

Thanks for the tip on the installation instructions. The paper instructions in the box didn't have any of that! Hopefully I can sort this out without taking the headlights out again. This looks promising. However after dislodging the blinkers the first time, I think they'll come out much easier now if I have to. I think the PO let this poor truck cook outside in the desert sun for 20 years straight. Everything was so brittle.

Just pull the housings my friend. Work smarter, not harder.

Note that another member was just complaining about having another Y16 burn up recently. And short period of time, days, weeks? Keep an eye on them.

Another vote for mini-projectors. I pondered doing this for a long time, and after conferting I wish I had done it years ago. The difference in light output, projection (distance) and direction (i.e., where you need it) is enormous. They are also cheaper than constantly buying replacement halogen bulbs. Also, keep in mind that entire new light housings are cheap at rock auto (around $40 each), so it's not even worth messing with your old, dull/faded housing glass. Get new housings, LEDs, ALIGN THEM PROPERLY, and you will be very satisfied.

Everyone - there's a procedure in the shop manual for aligning your headlights. Blinding light is not due to LEDs - it can come from any type of light (halogen or leds). The key is that people need to align their headlights and seemingly no shop does this and most people aren't familiar with the procedure. I can post the procedure from the manual if it would help.

About removing the projector shield from the light housing - I used tin-snips to cut a few slits in the housing, then a pair of long-nosed needle nose pliers to bend the metal inward. Do some bending, then eventually you can sneak the shield out of the housing.

I believe new side markers wer like $14-17 each shipped recently. Looks like RA has Eagle Eyes for $9.27 each.

Mine broke too coming out - literally separated the top lens. New ones glide in and out. And likely won't gather condensation like before!

Yes, please. That procedure would be really helpful. Just eyeballing mine, I think mine are close. I saw a nice tip on here about making sure the little hash marks on the side of the LED projector lined up with a line in the housing, and that helped. My cut off lines look pretty parallel to the ground.

I fortunately have a nice, dark parking garage with really flat floors and a straight concrete wall, so I should be able to get them lined up. Just don't know how to go about the adjustment, so that procedure would help a lot.

I have a different make of miniprojectors so I don't know if this will directly apply, but I installed by best guess and then with the headlights on at night I was able to clock the horizontal cutoff by twisting the heatsink/fan. I adjusted both to be on the same cutoff line. This only took a minute. The vertical height of the cutoff is adjusted by a screw with a long screwdriver. My understanding is that this is a fine adjustment that takes many revolutions of the screw.

I think that the side marker lenses can be resealed using butyl rubber tape/rope. Then use a heat gun or bake to get a good seal. The butyl rubber costs $10 so you might be better off just getting the eagle eyes

Which ones do you have? I'm getting tired of my conventional LEDs and seeing too many posts about burned out LEDs on the new colights.

Go for it! Miniprojectors are definitely a step up.
These are decent miniprojectors and have been working well for over a year now.
