Found the short in the driver side fog lights. Power wires were a little short, so I exposed em some more and twisted everything up, then heat shrink and electric tape over that. I really should invest in a soldering iron. I used to just borrow my cool neighbor's, but he moved.
    1 wiring task completed @des2mtn @JakeJake
Still remaining: power mirror, ditch lights, bed lights and possibly a chase light.
Realistically only two of those 4 are high priority.

Waiting on a spanner wrench to show up... She's cambered out now that she's settled with the Solos. Need to crank up the preload about an inch, maybe 1.5" once I add a leaf.

RE: Soldering iron, holler. I sent one or two to Sunnier last year or something, reclamations from the office lab I had to close up. I may have another spare on-hand but need to look. Can throw some soldering stuff in with it.

SLLC I'd go 80k or 5-6yr. I'm actually due now, time vs. miles.

    Drains:
    • Valves on each side of the block, blow the manifold, you'll see a metal tube protruding out.
    • Petcock on radiator
    • Some people will loosen the line to the oil cooler housing
Don't skip opening the block drains. I swear probably half the fluid is in there.

At the very least, every timing belt and water pump change should be accompanied with a coolant flush, but realistically, probably should go one every 30-50k

About 1/3 mountains thanks to the 3 mountain ranges that stretch through the state. Oachitas, Ozarks, and Bostons. Lots of lakes and rivers. About a third forested flatter land south and a third flat farm land and river delta. She’s purty, and sparsely habited.

I'd be so down. We need more cool regional events and I never been to Appalachia.
Thanks J, that would be awesome!

So I need a stabilizer clip part 69749-34010 for a tailgate latch and I can only find them on toyota sites and even though it's only a dollar or 2 I don't want to spend 30 dollars for shipping for one stupid little clip so I'm wondering if anyone has found anything that works as an alternative that you can get at regular parts stores? TIA

That looks fine to me. But I agree you're probably due for drain and fill if it hasn't been done in years. I've never done a true coolant flush. I just completely drain the system and refill it.

Same once a year I drain the radiator and throw in a gallon and a half of the Asian peak coolant.

I typically throw 'em on with other stuff. Oil filters, air filters, oil drain washers. If I step back for a sec and think about all the little annoying and/or maintenance things I need to do on my truck, I can almost always come up with $75 in parts to reach that free shipping threshhold.

Do you not have any Toyota dealers near you?

That's the beauty of the national Toyota Parts program. It doesn't matter how shitty the nearby stealership's staff are, if they participate in the program, you don't even need to interact with them, and you typically pay (sometimes waaaay less) money using the program.

You go to the national Parts site, like here, this is the page for that clip you need, and when you do, this is what you should see: A ZIP code entry box, where you drop in your zip, and it spits out a list of local dealers you can pick up the part from, typically at a nice, fat discount.

    upload_2025-3-27_8-47-17.png
Once you plug in a ZIP local to you, like for me as seen below using downtown ATL, the system will spit out a list of nearby participating dealers**. Click the big red "Shop this Dealer" button on the closest dealer to your ZIP, check that the price is good enough for you (and if not, tap the BACK button in your browser, then try the next-closest dealer, each often has a diff't discount!) and complete the order. (**NOTE: If your local dealer isn't in the list, sadly, this won't work for them, but maybe you have another nearby that does? My nearest dealer, Toyota South Atlanta, used to participate, but stopped after new ownership took over recently. Really pisses me off!)

The best part about doing things this way? (1) It doesn't matter how much your dealer parts department sucks, they email you when it's ready, you walk in, show your ID, they give you the part, you walk out. (2) 90% of the time you're going to get the part at least 10-20% cheaper than if you call in the order or walk up to the counter, thanks to Toyota's Parts program. (3) You're guaranteed to get genuine Toyota Parts. (4) If you shop during one of the near-quarterly sales, you can sometimes get parts as much as 50-60% off.

If you need help locating the correct part number, that's covered in THIS THREAD. Knowledge is power.

Oh, and only to drill the point home: 31% off on this part if I pick up from one of my closer dealerships!! Holy shit! Imagine if this was a $191 part, I'd have saved ~$60!

I've been having some steering wheel play and the dealer said it's the intermediate steering shaft.
However, this part has been discontinued: Toyota 45221-0C020 Shaft, Steering Intermediate

So, I had the intermediate steering shaft tack welded, as shown in this thread:
    https://www.tundras.com/threads/steering-play-still-with-most-common-items-replaced.52954/
See post # 16. Note: A screw was used in this example. Big thanks to jkeith72!

Note: This is a common issue on the Tacoma steering shaft as well.
I had an alignment done at Firestone and the truck drives great now!

Thanks for this, wasn't aware of it. Added it to the community megathread, 2nd reply in the "nuisances/annoyances" section. https://www.tundras.com/threads/so-you-wanna-buy-just-bought-a-1st-gen-tundra-eh.115928/

I also wonder: Did you hear any clunking to go with that issue, or just slop?

@FrenchToasty Thanks for the tip on using the 90 degree zerks on the TC shackles. Just got mine installed yesterday and can now access them much more easily with my grease gun

@MT-Tundra Thanks for the tip on the super lube grease. Got my new grease gun and grease yesterday, gonna give greasing the TC shackles a try today!

Adjusted preload on the Radflos....much better. They recommended the #600 springs. Rides really great. We'll see if I need to upgrade when the bumper gets put on....but good so far.
