What newsletter?

 

We are sorting through the records right now... He's got 3 birthdates listed, but we're thinking 11 months. We've got paperwork from his puppy shots, a rescue in OK and a rescue in OR.

Removed...

Owner was dumping him into a random neighborhood; the put him in someone's yard; owner climbs back into his car and starts to take off as the puppy is running back to the car and trying to jump in; owner takes off quickly and ends up running over dog's paw/lower leg ... according to the witness.

Witness takes pup and transports him to a local vet and places the pup in care of their local rescue...

Paperwork shows the vet puts the pup on pain meds and stabilizes the leg; makes a recommendation to have x-rays done and complete work up...

That rescue (OK) foregoes doing the x-rays then and decides to leave pup on pain meds for several weeks to see if it heals; after several weeks (almost 2 months) the pup still isn't using it and still showing signs of pain, so back to vet for consult and x-rays; vet says it appears that much of the bone in the paw is crushed and suggested amputating just above the first joint... Rescue agrees to the procedure, but in the process of starting the amputation they find that the bone is now infected all the way up to the elbow. So, they end up amputating above the elbow...

Poor pup can't catch a break
Procedure is completed he stays w/that rescue for a few weeks after the procedure and is then transferred to a rescue here in OR

Actually, went to look at 2 other pups. While I was out w/the other pups, someone had him in a different play area, and he had such an awesome neutral demeanor about him. Interested, curious and willing to engage other pups, people, etc. Wasn't showing any signs of fear or aggression toward other pups or people around him; just wanted to engage and play...

I ended up taking him into an interior room and hung out w/him for a bit; it was freakin' hot as shit out there off the 5 (high 90s), and he was glued to me pretty quick... I sat on the floor and he just laid on my lap...

I was concerned about early wear and tear on his joints and such as our main living space is on the 2nd floor, so we brought him home for an overnight stay... Stairs weren't an issue

He ours now!!!

 

That's awesome. One super lucky pup because you'll give him an amazing life.


Hope the original douchebag gets t-boned and loses a leg. Fuck that guy.

Nothing wrong with paying big bucks for dogs but those free/$50 rescue dogs are some of the best

So much for anonymity... Dude doesn't deserve it, but since he took the pup in for Rabies vaccines and such...

The first rescue was able to get his shot records from another vet in the area that the original owner went to and all that was included in the file... They literally gave me the dude's name and address

If there are witnesses it can be turned in to LEOs for animal cruelty, no?

 

Misdemeanor not committed in the officer's presence requires the witness to either sign an affidavit as a witness and agree to testify if necessary and some jurisdictions actually require citizen's arrest in those circumstances... really not worth the effort as it kinda punishes the witness for stepping in and getting involved (you gotta factor all that crap in when deciding which way to go w/that shit); it's not always as cut and dry as it should be...

 

Hmm... I might know a way to make his life purgatory if he owns his own home and plans to stay there.

 

So it's just an interesting thread highlight reel?

 

I'd prefer a more intimate method...

 

It's especially effective if he hates/fears snakes.

 

That’s really great that you guys adopted that dog. He seems like he’s got a good temperament. We had a cat for quite a while that had three legs. Rocky. He was amazing, for a cat.

What happened to basic decency and just the basics in life. Showing up on time, taking care of things, not being a tool, treating others with respect, having patience. I guess it’s always been this way, but I guess kicking your dog out the door is down there at the bottom. Maybe just a phone call to the police to point them in the right direction, they could at least knock on his door even if it doesn’t go anywhere.

What you have done for that Pup is amazing and congrats...

 

Basic human decency I don't know... I've seen some seriously dark shit that people are capable of and that the worst of this place; makes you kinda lose faith in the world. Then every once in a while, someone will surprise me, and I'll get to witness some seriously epic shit that is the essence of 'humanity'.... At best it's a freakin' yo-yo.

I appreciate the kind words, but if I'm being truly honest... He'll do far more for me over the course of his (or my) life than I could ever do for him; my part is easy...

The initial person that stepped in and did something did some amazing work; the shelters (although they may have not taken the best course during his initial assessment/care) could have very easily said this is not cost effective for us and we could spend the same amount of money helping 5 other dogs instead of just one (and essentially chose to euthanize instead of providing care), but instead they did good work; and so on and so forth, up to the point that I just happened to come across him in some random moment in time at a facility that was doing their best to care for him while they waited patiently for him to heal and be ready to adopt out
