    Well this happened last night.

    F9883767-8DA1-440B-A95D-76AC60FC9F00.jpg

I work as a wildland firefighter and am currently in Florida for an assignment. I was able to drive my truck here which is good. I was parked at the Holiday Inn and apparently they have had a string of break-ins in the area. At least according to the police officer. They did not get into my truck but they damaged the paint, as you can see, and the seal that goes around the door. There are also a few scratches on the door like they were wearing a belt buckle and really trying to get in there with a rod to open the door with something. I’m going to look at this as a close call and because thankfully they did not get in.

I don’t know if it will be worth doing an insurance claim but I have a report. I’d rather take the money from the deductible and use it to buy a center console safe. Anybody have one of these? What are your thoughts? And I thought I saw a discount code going around while back.

    Lookin at these:

Hey @Roman do you sell these?

Sorry to hear about this and glad they didn’t get in. I NEVER leave my wallet or pistol in car when parked outside, especially in Florida where I lived a few years. Be safe and protect your car as best you can.

Your truck is not a holster. Carry your gun.

I don’t leave anything valuable in my truck.

I know, I know...I usually don't either but I have been traveling for work and working long hours so it just kind of happened. They almost caught me slippin' so this was a good reminder to secure my stuff. Won't happen again.

I'm working at an airport and living out of a hotel room...Not really an option to keep it on me at all times.

In that situation your options are limited for sure.

Just be aware that a console vault is easily defeated. Luckily the would be thief trying to get in your truck couldn’t even manage to make entry.

Yeah, a couple of amateurs for sure...The officer said they are staking out the area because it has been happening in the area. There are a couple of hotels and restaurants in close proximity.

I know the console vault isn't going to be as safe as say, the safe at my house but another line of defense for some amateurs or "smash and grabbers".

You're welcome. I can't recall if Locker-Down provides a forum discount (I think so, since their name links to the site), but Southeast Toyota definitely does. I think both will be mentioned within posts to these threads.

That ain’t too bad man. Still sucks that it happened!!
A new seal and you’re good to go. If you wanted to repaint the door, it’s up to you. Just be glad they didn’t try to pop the lock!

Exactly why I don’t keep anything of value in my truck at any time and always carry!!
1200 total. 200 out of pocket.

I’m sure I speak for all of us when I say I F***ING hate thieves!! Wish you would’ve caught them red handed and opened up a can of beat down!!

Crap...sorry that happened...jerks! Might be a good idea to get an audible alarm installed? (And always try to park underneath a light pole.) You will want to repaint those scratches with, at min, primer, to prevent rust, of course.

I noticed my daughter (who's a schoolteacher) leaving interesting looking tote bags in her car and I asked her about them. They are mostly arts and crafts for the classes BUT to a thief they look like a purse with valuables so I advised her to keep them in the trunk. If they can't see anything inside a car to steal, hopefully they'll move onto a car with stuff that looks more inviting.

Maybe a locker safe w/ tether you put under the seat would be better than a console vault.

the real problem is these thieves never get prosecuted and serve sentences. I had $3k in work tools stolen out of a toolbox in lake City. saw them throwing my stuff in the trunk of a car and the hotel had video. Cops pulled them over headed north toward GA. and let them go with all my stuff. Found some of the electronic stuff in a Valdosta pawn shop. They let them off the hook because they claimed, "i ditn't do nuffin".
They do it because there are no ramifications to getting caught.

That works too. Thing about the stock is a lot of people didn't survive. Town folk would throw eggs, tomatoes etc. Things would escalate and before you knew it, rocks and other things. A person would be lucky if they were escaped being merely horribly disfigured.

yeah that would piss me off as well. My brother last month was actually sleeping in his 2018 F250 when someone tried to break in. He scared that crap out of the guy when he slammed on the window, called the police and the dude was arrested. some people are just stupid.
