edit : op or anyone for that matter, if you follow the maint. manual that came with your vehicle, then there wouldn't be any confusion :)

10K is fine. If you are worried. Get a sample tested. I did that with my 3.4 Tacoma. I went 14K once without any issues per the oil analysis.

I did my first oil change at 4000 miles with Mobil 1 even though Toyota Care will not do it until 10000. I'm glad I did, in the oil filter were very small metal flakes which I kind of expected. I also changed the plastic oil filter out for the aluminum one.

I'm going with the 10,000 mile interval as stated in the maintenance guide. New 2018, I just did my own first oil/filter change. Mobil 1 0W-20. My wife has a 2017 Sequoia and we will do the 10k service on hers as well.

I owned a 1985 Toyota Supra that had a 10k oil/filter change interval. Couldn't wear that thing out if you tried (went several 100k).

Did first change at 1k, 2nd at 5k, and every 5k after that. It's just routine for me at this point. Had 346k on my 95' Land cruiser, changed it myself every 5k and that's what I'll be doing for this truck and every vehicle I own. If my oil came out the same golden color as it went in I would space the interval further apart... But it never comes out clean at 5k, no matter what level of grade, so I will always continue to remove to blackened, burnt, and soiled oil, sooner than later. Why risk it. When it comes to recommendations by auto manufacturers, there always needs to be the addition of simple common sense. 10k oil change intervals just don't make sense to me yet... Old school philosophy maybe, but if the life of my truck is prolonged by changing fluids more often, (before they break down), then that's what I'll do.

"would love to see you go 10k on FFV...read the manual"

I did that as well on mine...1k first oil change, went to the TRD oil filter and just use Toyota 0w-20 because I can get it cheaper from the dealer with the discount that is part of the dealer perk package for buying the truck there than I can 8qts of Mobil1. Then second oil change at 5k, and 5k intervals. Just ordered another TRD oil filter from Roman to do a change this weekend. Not afraid to stretch it to 7500 miles if needed, but if I have the time and it works with my schedule, I'll make an afternoon out of rotating the tires and changing oil. Non-FFV 5.7 FWIW.

Toyota recommends 10k mike oil changes when using full synthetic oils and normal driving conditions. Modified vehicles and off-roading would of course be different. Oil changes every 3k-5k miles are really old school nowadays if you’re using full synthetic oils. My darn BMW only requires oil changes every two years or 50k miles.

How many of us use E85? I would not use even if it was available. We have a station in town that just started selling ethanol free. Thinking about running in boat since my Mercury Optimax handles 87 just fine.

My local Toyota Stealership told me that they only recommend 10k oil changes on my 2017 5.7L, FFV with full synthetic oil. I even asked them about what the manual says and they told me 10k oil changes!!

It is Mobil but I think they all have extended life oils now. Thinking about what order when I do my first. Fumoto, filter wrench, aluminum case and maybe the filter drain hose on list. Not sure about usefullness of the filter drain hose. Don't you have to take filter plug off to install? Never done change with a cartridge filter.

I have a non-FFV, so it's for sure 10k recommend for me. I just enjoy doing it to be honest...this sucker will be gone well before 50k miles, so I don't do it because I feel that it is going to make it last longer or anything. Just a fun thing to do on the weekends once that annoying reminder starts popping up in the instrument screen.

What happened to you is funny though....just took the Acura to the dealership this weekend for its first oil change and tire rotation (the car give codes for what services it needs) and the Acura dealer was like, "I wouldn't pay for the tire rotation at this point, you can go longer before rotating". I was like wow, never had a dealer tell me to spread out service intervals before lol. So I'll rotate those tires myself whenever I feel like tinkering on a vehicle. Pro/con with keeping new vehicles..."working on your car" ends up meaning rotate the tires and maybe change the oil lmao :laugh:

I know Toyota specifies 5W-20 and when it comes to 0W-20 they say to revert back to 5W-20 as soon as possible. They can't be that far off, so why all the scare?!

Yup. I'm old school myself, so I usually rotate my tires at least twice a year. I change my oil every 3,000 miles and I only use full synthetic oil in my vehicles. I do love to do my own oil changes, but, whenever the new vehicles come with free service, I take full advantage of the FREE service:rofl:I do also plan to keep my Tundra for as long as I can. Right now I have a 2gen Tundra that has 201,000 miles on it and I am aiming for 1 mil/miles. I know that Toyotas can go that long. :benchpress::militarypress: My BMW on the other hand is a 2018 and there is no way that I'll be keeping it past the 4 year/50K miles bumper to bumper warranty and free service. The oil change alone is $1200:angrygirl::spending: I love the car, but, I would go broke if I had to pay for all the maintenance service myself.:bucket:

Owner manuals for new vehicles today aren't a science. They are usually far off from actual daily use, and the dealerships know this. For instance, if you should take your owner's service manual to the dealership and tell them that you want all the services listed for your vehicle's specific mileage, most of the items listed in the service manual would not be applicable. They would suggest other services instead of what the service manual suggest. You must also be careful what the dealerships suggests that you need to get done. The service writers all get commision, so, they will try to steer you to big ticket, unnecessary service items. I was at a Toyota dealership in Orlando a few years ago and I overheard a service writer telling a old lady that her year old car needed an induction flush and serpentine belt replaced. I was so pissed off that I waited until he left and went to the old lady and informed her that she didn't need the service the writer were telling her that she needed. She immediately we to the service writer and told him not to perform the unnecessary service. He was pissed at me, but, I didn't give a rat's ass!! That could have been my grandmother!!!

Service writers are some POS. I literally jumped in my truck after they wanted to charge me $140 to replace a $15 door switch, that I ended up buying myself and installing it in less than 2 mins. Check this out though, although I told them what the problem was, he still insisted that the mechanic had found the right part to be bad. Replaced it with new door switch and it wasn't it, so the mechanic was also a POS as he never checked the switch either. I did the right thing by pulling my truck outta there and told him to eat dicks.

They'll do that!!! I recently changed my Toyota service dealership, because they are always trying to rip my off. Plus, they just can't stop stealing my shit out of my damn vehicles. It's what it is!

$140 for a part that took me 2 mins to replace without any knowledge on how to remove it also, as it was a bit tricky. Mind you this was a Ford stealership, as I have a cargo van, but i don't doubt that most are like that. I loaded up on filters, oil, and gaskets just so I don't see these clowns.

I have a Flex fuel truck so I will do what the manual says and do it every 5k at my dealer and thankfully the dealer I go to is trustworthy.

I totally understand. Even though I do most of the stuff myself, there are lots of stuff that I get done by other more qualified...including the Stealership!
