My local dealer will not sell a car/truck new or used unless you have a trade. My sells man said if they did not do that they would run out of cars. No Tundras or tacomas or Rav 4s

Only 4 new Tundras on my dealer's lot and all of them are marked as having a pending sale. 2 used Tundras, no pics, and please call for price listed.

I didn't talk to anyone about it but, when I was at the dealership on Saturday, I saw two new Tundras plus two that were labeled as sold. Didn't notice any Tacomas except for one used one a couple was either buying or selling or any used Tundras.

So the Toyota website shows inbound inventory allocated to dealers that for the most part is already spoken for... I know when I used the online inquiry process on the website, I got calls from dealers that said that that that unit wasn't available but something I didn't want was available. If I was Toyota I would have produced nothing but loaded models because they are/were going to sell anyway...

I did this in March and the story was not good. I ordered one and they called in April saying they were having trouble getting it built. They found one in Virginia close enough to what I wanted so I jumped on it.
I really do not think there is much inventory out there anymore. Both local dealers have zero Tundras

I had to call 10+ dealers before I found one willing to quote me a OTD price at MSRP. I think me having a 2015 Tundra to trade in helped also.

I have a 2015 also to trade. I've started to reach out to dealerships in other states and see if they would be willing to ship one to me. My auto broker said I can't even order one.

Yup, I had to cross 3 states lines to pickup mine. I also found out while doing research that Toyota don't do custom orders and all a dealer can do is try to get allocation and pray.

Traded in the Taco today and ended up finding this 2021 Metallic Black Platinum, it also just happened to have the TRD PRO Dual exhaust. Makes me feel as though I was very lucky. They said it had arrived two nights prior, and there were only 11 miles on the ODO when I drove it off the Lot (Right Toyota, PHX) Needless to say, I absolutely love it. They had one more 4X4 OF DBL cab in Cement (Limited), and four or five 4X2 models on the lot. Titanium front.jpgTitanium Exhaust.jpg

Damn, it’s everwhere... it’s will be quite some time before it gets back to normal.... I’d say early 2022 maybe. Everyone is thirsty to spend their money on vehicles.

Cause ppl can get stupid amount for there trade-ins atm especially if it's something that holds there value well. Probably will normalize out once 2022 model comes out and all the MSRP gets a price hike.

When I bought mine 2 weeks ago, it was one of 2 tundras on the lot. The negotiation process was unlike any other. The basically told me “look if you don’t buy this today at this price, I know that I will sell it tomorrow to someone else”.

The first time that tactic has ever not been a lie, even though every salesman tries it every time.

Very true - not all salespeople lie all the time and even the most dishonest occasional speaks the truth…just another by-product of the craziness - making con men look semi legitimate.

I will say I’m noticing more and more “new vehicle” alerts in my email. I am too lazy to unsubscribe to all the alerts I got during my vehicle search and keep getting more and more alerts showing more cars hitting the lots.

At Ford yesterday and where there were maybe 20 vehicles last month - now over 60 (normally 200) - it’s progress - but I guarantee they act as if every one of those 60 are the most valuable cars on the market today and won’t budge much on price. Expect that trend to continue.

It’s just like TP, lumber, gasoline and any other short supply product. Even when inventory returns to normal - there is less discounting and the price is probably higher even on sale than it was everyday before the shortage. They condition you to accept higher prices as a good deal (hoping for a higher profit margin) - instead you invariably just get inflation.

Same situation with me, msrp.... about killed me, as I have never paid msrp... here's the craziness though. a couple of months ago I sold my 2019 sr5 with 30K miles on it to finance a land deal I had going. I got $6500 more than I paid for it new and bought a 2021 nissan pro4x for a great price, like 20% off msrp. I liked the nissan but it had a couple of issues I didn't like and the reliability /resale factor really got me thinking. Long story short, the toyo dealer gave me $4500 more than I paid for the nissan. I got into the 2021 limited 4x4 tundra trd yesterday for a couple of grand. tax was a wash... In the end, it seemed like a no brainer to me.. I'm sure they will make a killing on the nissan and they got me for msrp. But being the last of the v8 tundras and the shortage of them, I wonder where prices top out at.. I know several dealers are at msrp plus already ... It is a crazy time now in the car business...

I slow rolled it by my local Toyota dealer today, they had one used CM, several F150’s a few chevys and two Tacos. They had Zero new Tundras, and two new Tacos. Granted this was on a Sunday so they might be storing the Tundras inside to keep the Cat Thieves away.

I don't know what you are doing in Florida, but way more inventory than anything in Tennessee. Stayed at a hotel in Holiday, FL Friday night and Sun Toyota had a pretty full lot compared to anything close to Knoxville ton. 8 Tundras and 3 Tacos. We also passed a Buick and GMC dealership and they had at least 50+ trucks and close to 300 vehicles on the lot. The one Ford dealer we saw had a ton of trucks also. Here is picture of Sun Toyota and it has a pretty good selection iron.

The dealers around Knoxville are lucky if they have 20 vehicles for sale.....EFD65294-07DA-4823-B928-00C1FD063109.jpg

At the local dealership last Thursday, one used Taco and 2 used Tundras. 4runner and car inventories were only slightly better.

When I was at the dealer the other day he had 2 tacos that were sold and a taco trd pro that he had coming in in 2 weeks unspoken for in magnetic gray. My Tundra was the only one there.

I've expanded my search nationwide and I can't find anything. All the tundras listed on dealerships websites are already sold or already spoken for.

Not sure about that. My local dealer said that Toyota stopped taking new Tundra orders in April so that they can work through the backlog of factory builds before retooling the line for the new 2022 V6 model. They also said that Toyota is committed to fulfilling rental car orders before consumer orders, as the rental car companies try to restock their fleets. Hence why there is such a shortage.

I was super lucky in that I managed to snag a new TRD Pro Tundra that was scheduled to be built for my local dealer and hadn't been purchased yet. I was later told it's the last TRD Pro coming into the state.

Nothing I read so far backs up that claim, I doubt a local dealer are being told what’s really going on with the inventory. Rental vehicles is probably the lowest priority since profit margin is what most manufacturers are focusing on.

It’s true dealer can’t order anymore TRD Pro but that doesn’t mean they are getting ready for the 2022 model. Engine configuration hasn’t been announced so sounds like total speculation from the local dealer

Ford just restarted the Bronco line, I’m pretty sure Toyota isn’t that far behind.

Inventory here in the Augusta Ga area is still pretty good... I was able to secure a 21' Limited for 2950. off MSRP But dealer make it clear it was only because of my previous dealings there. Seems strange how you can go from one area to another and things be so dramatically different.

That's a sharp looking truck. I really do like the honeycomb grill over others.
