The reason I want a high end cooler is because I’ve already gone through 3 coolers. I load them up weekly and head to the lake, with all of them the handles broke. That’s when I decided to go for a more rugged cooler which brought me to orca due to warranty and ruggedness. Just not sure about the weight at 40 lbs empty.

Orca just gave me an EMS discount, think I’m going to have to pull the trigger on this orca 75. Hopefully it’s my last cooler for a while.

You have a great cooler. Most of the "high end" coolers are very decent and are bear proof too..(not that you need it) Yeti needs to lower prices because there are too many coolers out there now that are just as good and priced very competitively..

I'm an avid bowhunter and have been using yeti for years. After YETI chose to no longer support the NRA due to the Parkland school shooting I chose to no longer support YETI. There are other options out there just as good and cheaper now also.

Fyi: Yeti offers a military, fire, EMS, police discount. It's through a 3rd party called IDme. Not everything is discounted but the stuff that is is a decent amount below retail.

I have the Yeti Roady 20 and love it. I won it last year and use it all the time. I don't think I would have spent the money if I didn't win it but now that I have one I would consider buying a larger one.

I own both a yeti (50 qt) and an igloo (50 qt). Once I replaced the hinges on the Igloo with metal, the only drawback with this product, then they are both equal. Except for price!! However, I will not replace my Yeti secondary to the cost. In Louisiana at this time of year it is filled with ice daily. In the fall I stop past the local "Ice House" and will put 2 16 lb bags in the Igloo to go to the freezer at the deer camp and arrive with minimal thawing. Haven't tried any of the other high end units. So my vote is save the money for more adult beverages.

This is a very fair test. It's hard because of the different sizes involved. The only issue I have is the size/ice ratio the Orca had over the other top coolers. The larger ice mass in the Orca should thermodynamically last longer and it did. I'm certain that a similar sized Orca would have had similar results as the other top 5. Ideally for this test to be completely fair the coolers need to be the same size and have the same mass of ice in them. A bit disappointed that this wasn't done.

I just wish some of these upper tier coolers would come down to earth on their pricing. My dad bought me the Walmart knockoff and it’s terrible

Pricing is getting better. I reviewed my SubZ cooler here. Was still chilling ribeyes on day 6. 48 qt. I think it was $279. Came with wheels, handles, center divider, storage basket, and a very decent padded seat. Yeti wanted over a $100 just for the padded seat for my old Yeti 45. Nash in Texas makes the SubZ (in Texas). The RedHead coolers you see in Bass Pro are made by Nash. Worth considering.

I'm not trying to stir the pot, but what's funny is how so many people are still against Yeti because of the NRA, haha. Yeti has never said they didn't support the NRA or the 2nd, and no where will you find that they said that. In fact, there are still many brand ambassadors who promote it who are avidly into outdoors and hunting. Yeti changed their pricing contracts with the NRA, of whom was not happy with it, so like a little baby; the NRA blasted them for not supporting the 2nd as a way to ruin them. Pretty sad if you ask me and sounds awfully political.

So know your facts. IF you can prove to me that Yeti said anywhere that they dont support the 2nd and hunters alike, then I'll change my opinion and admit I'm wrong. Don't believe everything someone says as truth.

I bought a gun AND a Yeti the other day, ha. Oh NO! o_O :eek2: ;)

*Delete the post if need be, just tired of the crying.

I did check my facts.. so if you dont like my post move on... no tears here. Yeti most certainly did do away with programs but would not state any other programs or who they stopped discounting too...

You are correct. Some fake news out there about Yeti. Totally over blown. As mentioned above Yeti has special discount programs for 1st responders. A very good thing in my book!!

Well there are both press releases listed... Yeti admitted they dropped the NRA's discounting...didnt name who elses they dropped... they also admitted they would not fill existing orders... You dont want to do business with the NRA fine but have the balls to atleast admit your a snowflake company... without using the internet feel free to list all your facts....

All that video showed me is how everyone who is in the financial pocket of the NRA made the same claims as they did, like with any political group pushing their agenda. And then it goes on to quote Yeti stating that they offered them (NRA) the same thing they do everyone else. How is that not wanting to work with the NRA? It's not on their website, I dont see a quote saying they will no longer work with them. And why is it that if they aren't offering them discounts as a company, says anything about their stance on the 2nd. The NRA is a business, like any other business out there.

Everyone is free to have their opinion and I will have mine.

I'm not trying to get into a pissing match here. I'm just seeing the facts as I see them. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe I'm not. But as it is and with what's being released, that's the way I see it.

I've never given a dime to the NRA, never had their sticker on my bumper, nothing. But that doesn't mean I dont support the 2nd. I love this country, I love our military, I love all the men and women who fight every day and risk their lives to protect me and everyone else. I own a gun and hope to own more soon. So directly supporting or directly not supporting the NRA doesn't mean anything.

No pissing match here, I feel differently .... I admit the NRA is a huge business... they will be fine. I just have zero tolerence for the political correctness of some companies. Yeti provided a discount for years... and still do to many groups. I own a ton of guns and a couple yeti cups (i'm not throwing them away).

Its good to debate and appreciate someones opinion without name calling and sillyness... thats what has screwed up our country... the lack of respect for others opinions.

I completely agree with you, and like I said, I could be wrong about Yeti. That's just the way I personally see it though. Maybe they did discontinue the discount with the NRA as a way to somehow in the background not support guns, but until I see it stated that way, I just see a big business throwing a fit. This isn't the first time they've cried about something not going their way. And I agree with you about those companies who have come out and stated they dont support it. Like "DICKS", I used to like shopping there, o'well.

Yeti does support our 1st responders and others who deserve it with discounts, so as stated before; that's a pretty damn good thing.

Wouldn't be surprised that whomever at Yeti sent the boneheaded email to NRA is most likely no longer there. Makes zero sense to alienate your largest customer base. It seems to have been a business decision to cut costs but ended up turning into a fiasco. Yeti has made numerous overtures since then about their support for the NRA. Damage is done and not easy to quickly recover.

And I apologize to the OP. Don't mean to hijack their post.

As a product, Yeti coolers and cups are pretty bad ass. But so are so many others out there with slight variations and results. They are almost all exact duplicates of each other so find one that works for you financially and go with it. Yeti is based out of Texas, so another reason I choose to support them.

There is a Dick's near me...Haven't shopped there. Gander Outdoors, formerly Gander Mountain, is opening a new store soon. Gander still has their s**t together. The website that Brad, BTBAKER, posted...........http://www.coolersonsale.com/ is darn good. My made in Texas Nash SubZ 48qt only made it to through 5 days in their test. Since that test SubZ includes with their coolers a second weather strip that you can apply if needed. I used it and got an additional day of chilling which puts it up there with the other good 6 day+ coolers at a very good price point.
