I live in Coastal Georgia, flat all around. Tacoma would be too small for me since I want comfortable second row for adult passengers and my dogs. I don’t really care about resale since I plan to keep it a long time. I’ve got a good deal lined up on a V6 and can’t get close to my budget/mileage desire in a V8. I understand the gas mileage is virtually the same in both so I’m not leaning V6 because of that. It really is coming down to my budget and being realistic about my current needs. Again, I’d prefer to go V8 for the helluvit but when you have to be realistic with your money a V6 may still be a viable option for me?

That wasn’t my experience. I had a 2002 with the 4.7, and while I loved that truck and never had a moments trouble with it, my 2019 with the 5.7 gets better gas mileage consistently. Not much better, but it is better. The best I ever got with the 4.7 was about 17.5. I got 19.7 this morning on the way to work.

Another note to add is a want a 2014 or newer body style so that limits me even more.

If this is really just a utility truck I don’t think you would regret a v6.

If it were ever going to become your daily driver you will

Learn something new every day. I had no idea they put a six in a Tundra. I would say no way. I had the 4.0 in a Tacoma and never thought that was enough power. I can’t imagine what a dog it would be in a Tundra.

It is a dog in the Tundra. I had one for a year and a half before I traded it.

My wife has a 4Runner with the 4.0L V6. It is a great engine that has proven itself over the years, but it has no balls. I find myself pulling out onto the highway or a busy intersection and having to floor it just to get up to speed. Going from a small turbo car the V6 in a Tundra is going to feel slow. I say get the V8 and don’t waste your time with the 4.6 L either. If you can swing it keep your car for commuting and buy a Tundra with the 5.7. If you can’t, then you will be fine daily driving the Tundra. Mine is my daily and I love it.

I have been driving my 2010 V6 as a daily driver for a year now and I don’t have any problem keeping up with traffic or accelerating to pass. It will cruise at 75 easily.

I average 17.5 mpg with mixed driving and almost 19mpg on the 55mph rural roads. (hand calculated)

If you want to drag race everything and everyone then I guess you NEED the V8. If you pull or haul heavy loads then you do need the V8. Saying you must have a V8 in a truck is just not true.

I agree, it’s not a must have. However, what are the advantages of the V6? Slightly better gas mileage? I average 16 in mixed driving. Not enough to make a difference IMO. Resale certainly won’t be as good as the market will be much smaller.
Bottom line, if you can afford a V8 in a large truck it is the best way to go. If all you can afford is a 6 then you need to to what you need to do. For me, I would rather save a couple more thousand and buy the V8.

I agree with this, I also had the 4.0 in an fj cruiser and even when it was stock I was underwhelmed.

V6 Tacoma or V8 Tundra. Those are the only logical choices.
