They always talk about how modern men have become wimps well here's another example... posting about how the infotainment system on your truck sucks ;)

We don't need no stinkin' infotainment system.

I prefer the radio off so I can listen to the engine working.

Bestmode, how do you like that Alpine system? Is it wireless Bluetooth or do you need to wire in your phone? I really like it shows your truck vitals.

1st world problems. I guess if people have a long drive and need to go deaf then so be it.

the best gripe thread so far was the recent one about payload being way off. appearances are deceiving. tundras look like they can do it all but reality is they can do some and look cool while doing it reliably.

most buyers dont crank stereos up, load a truck bed down at the dealership, do a real world mpg comparison drive, tow a loaded trailer etc during the test drive.

Personally, I miss the chains that held tail gates open or any angle you wanted it at. Screw this high tech push button tail gate opener with bottle opener, cup holder, electrical outlets and seat warmers.

I always confirm that it works, then turn the radio off during test drives...

Years ago when I was shopping for a 'smallish economical' new vehicle to haul bottled water with, and for in town deliveries. I visited my local Honda dealer and chose an AWD Honda Element for the test, we loaded it up with 2000 lbs of bottled water at the dealership before an extended test drive. It performed surprisingly well, but I knew the suspension & brakes were not going to last long so I kept looking.

Always test drive like you own it, run errands, go through the drive through, park it in your garage and make sure it fits.

As a matter of fact complaints or better yet feedback is the most important aspect to getting changes. If you choose to be the "shut up and color" consumer then so be it but the OP has every right to enjoy his Toyota while still having some things he does not like and to voice those dislikes. Guess if he doesn't like cam tower leaks he should either drive the truck and say nothing/accept it or just move to another brand. Right?

Complaining here isn't going to help, but providing customer feedback to the manufacturer can help.

When automatic transmissions were no longer optional on trucks and 1st world nanny requirements became the norm.....I knew the golden age of trucks was over.

It's a Tundra OPEN forum. There is nothing wrong with him posting this. As a matter of fact do a search. Better yet look at the Tech12 group buy thread. Plenty of others have voiced the same.

The features technically work....i wouldn't say they work great. Let me rephrase "worst infotainment system of any current manufacturer over the last 5 years". It does sound like shit too. BOSE in my GMC sounded great. May bypass lift and tires and do HU/sound upgrade first.

I was never a sound guy in my vehicles, the last time I went beyond stock was add a sub to my Jeep over 15y ago. But somehow I was influenced by the spend enablers here. "ooh, what's an Android HU?", "Hmmm, Tech12V group buy", "What? another Tech12V group buy?"... I hate/love you guys. And that's just the sound system. GET OFF THIS SITE NOW

    :spending::spending::spending:

Anyhoo, absolutely zero regrets. My drive is so much more enjoyable. There are times it's not even on, I drive my coworker home who lives near me and we talk. But if I want it on, it's bliss.

hahah too funny. my next tundra purchase will involve 70 bags of mulch and a space shuttle to see if it can carry and pull.

when I test drove my tundra the deciding factor was if my wife could back it down our shared driveway without ripping the fence out or hitting the neighbors car.

    we now own a tundra

I did add an 8 track player in my jeep when it first hit the scene. Have to admit my non JBL infotainment "system" in my SR5 is worse... :eek2:

Truck is great overall, I don’t mind the interior materials but for the price they could be a little higher end.

The infotainment system for functionality is simple and just works....the sound is way below average, it just is.

I have upgraded the speakers, added a sound processor and an amp and it’s a massive improvement but with that head unit the music still sounds a little “flat”. But that’s all personal preference and some don’t care about that but I will be swapping out for a Kenwood unit very soon to get the sound I am looking for.

I didn’t upgrade to go deaf. I upgraded because I love music and listening to music through a good HU/speakers is by far one of my best upgrades and I have done quite a few. Hearing instruments in a song you never caught in Toyota’s stock junk is cool. It’s therapy for me and I love it. When I pulled the stock speakers I had to laugh. I would guess they literally cost Toyota 5-10 bucks a piece.
Their system and especially their “upgraded” JBL system is embarrassing and I hope they address it.
The NAV in the HU is also poor IMO.
They basically have ignored this feature and have done nothing to upgrade.
For the members here that say it fine, I’d be happy to let you listen to my setup and I assure you every single one of you will say it’s sounds fantastic and it’s a major upgrade over stock.
Now, whether it’s something you would choose to spend your money on upgrading is a very individual choice.

I've liked these from afar, but we had too many complaints concerning software and support without any confirmation of a fix. Not to mention installation, etc

There's 3200+ members in the Tundra fb group, I presume mostly owners and only a fraction of complaints but I hear ya, it might not be for people who aren't techy or want to tinker. Would take me 1/2-1h to install including removing the stock HU. I imagine it's like getting your first ever tablet and figuring out how to work it.

Here's mine cycling through Radio>Video>Phone>Homescreen>Waze. I use it everyday since last fall and have no issues.

I can't recommend it for everyone, but I can say get a tried and true Kenwood, Pioneer, or Alpine etc from Crutchfield and it'll be better than stock guaranteed.

I have a 2014 limited, about the only thing I use is the radio. Everything else my phone does it like navigation, it works well for me, this stock infotainment system. No complaints here, I’ve seen all the fancy tech in some cars and I was never interested in them,it’s just more unnecessary distractions. I just want music, my phone is mounted in a way I can keep my eyes on the road while driving for navigation and I’m good.
