According to Mike Sweers, the chief engineer for the Tundra, the design engineering team spent hundreds of hours with this truck in a wind tunnel. You would have thought that with all of this “effort” they would have identified this instability happening around the outside mirrors at highway speeds. Any protuberance on a vehicle is an area that can introduce instabilities which create noise. They should have caught this. Big oversight in my opinion.

I have a 2022 tundra crew max. I have a loud wind noise on driver side only. Found it to be coming from the driver mirror. When I tape the seam where the mirror pivots the noise goes away. It's a design issue. I think they all do it some.

I took delivery of my 1794 TRD Off Road yesterday and mine suffers from this as well. Taped the area and the noise is gone. Going to take it to the dealership to see if they'll replace the weatherstripping. Completely unacceptable in a $70K truck. If anyone has had luck with their dealers replacing or fixing the issue please PM or share your experience. Sometimes you just have to talk to the right person. Thanks!

Started noticing about the wind noise above 45MPH and above. So I scheduled an appointment with them to do the parking brake recall and have them looked at the wind noise. They said it was the seal so I came back yesterday to have them install the seal yesterday. They replace the seal with the part number 681510C050. That didn’t help, worst is they scratch the side view mirror. So now I’m going back there this Tuesday to have the scratch fix and let them know that the wind noise didn’t go away. Also I tried by folding the side mirror but that didn’t help. I’ll try the taping up the seal to see if that makes any difference.

Just wanted to add mine to the list platinum trim took delivery jan 26. It sounds like the windows are cracked on both sides. I make a point of it being listed on the RO every time I take it in for service or the recalls approaching 17k and all they have done is install foam behind the door seal and accidently tore the seal in the process. My service manager is great to work with. But, he has no fix for this. It would be great if TOYOTA WOULD BE LIKE RIVIAN AND SEND US ALL LETTERS LETTING US KNOW THAT THEY SCREWED UP, AND WHEN THEY GET A FIX IT WILL BE FREE REGARDLESS OF MILEAGE. Rivian did this for their electric tonneau that has had some problems. I'm at the point now where Im trying to drive another vehicle more often to keep miles off of my truck because of all the warranty issues. Moldings falling off, cameras falling out, window trim too short and peeling up, bed liner peeling up. I love driving the truck though, just have to turn up the radio way more than I woul like.

Won’t happen in any state without a huge court battle. Very slight wind noise from a rubber seal in itself will not be a valid complaint to lemon the truck.

Take it to your dealer and have them replace every window seal on the truck. Mine did it without even a single hesitation. If your dealer won’t do it, take it to another dealer that will. Dealers get paid very well for warranty and service work so if you’re having issues getting the dealer to do the work there’s no way I’d take my vehicle back there.

Unfortunately I couldn’t by my tundra from my dealer this time due to not having one in stock and I refuse to buy a truck I cannot test drive first. Regardless of where I purchased from, I choose to have 100% of the service done at my local dealer and never had a single issue.

I agree, lemon law may not be worth the trouble. I first want to work with my dealer. Then selling to carvana or carmax would be easier. Main issue would be getting the finance rate that I got in Jan would be impossible now and certainly in the future. We have multiple toyotas serviced at this dealer so keeping relations positive is a must.

what will be interesting is when the 2023 start to come in and see if they changed the design/supplier.

model change over is when a lot of that stuff happens.

My 2022 Capstone has borderline unbearable wind noise from both front windows at 50+ mph. I will call the number in the forum and file a complaint as well with the dealer. Really hope they address this sooner rather than later. Also noticing vibration in the steering wheel between 25-40 mph that is constant regardless of acceleration or deceleration. Checked all the lug nuts, and alignment is solid as well. Must be from steering box, tires are balanced as well.

For what it's worth, I reported the ridiculous wind noise to the dealer I use for service and they replaced all the window seals under warranty with no questions asked. The noise is much better, not entirely gone, but much closer to acceptable at least. I hear the mirror wind noise more than anything else now, rather than sounding like a window is cracked open.

Naturally, my response was based on the assumption he COULD lemon law it. Otherwise, the conversation is a moot point.

I wouldn’t want to pay that much money for a truck that the manufacturer couldn’t even get the window seals right. If you can’t get vehicle production 101 right, what else is wrong?

I too have a brand new truck with wind noise what appears to be coming from the driver side A pillar area. Folding mirrors dont help.
In California this would probably pass for a Lemon

Its not a New problem, my 2015 has it. Most pronounced when the wind is blowing hard, I'm going at least 70 and the wind comes from the 2 o'clock to 7 o'clock angle. Their wind tunnel must only blow straight ahead, silent that way, uggg...

I' m starting the lemon process today. I was given 4 case managers and confirmed with one of them yesterday that they are not working on a fix for it currently. This is unacceptable for a 60k truck. Will update as the process plays out.

I asked the case manager, "I need a yes or no that they are currently working on a fix before I try and get rid of it". Her answer was "bla bla bla I do not see a TSB or fix in the works". So fk em, I'm done

Did my first 400-mile round trip this weekend and hit 80+ MPH for several stints. I've got tow mirrors and expected a significant amount of wind noise.

Pleasantly surprised. This is one of the quietest vehicles I've ever owned.

18003314331 choose option #9 and ask to speak to a case manager. Her name was Amy. Unless she's lying to me, nothing is happening with the wind noise.

it will happens eventually, mine just started doing it around 6k miles… thought I got lucky.

Took a ride with a service tech yesterday and he told me they see more complaints with the tow mirrors, but they have replaced a ton of window gaskets and it doesn’t fix the noise

After two weeks, I noticed a whistling at 45mph+ coming from the driver side A pillar. When I stopped, I pushed on the window seal/cover on that side and got back on the road. No noise.

Likely not a permanent fix, but it seems to zero the source on this truck.

I am wondering if they are loosening and raising the front profile ever so slightly. We have had wide temp swings here recently from the upper 30’s up to 75 degrees daily.

That specific gasket is bad....I drove a new SR5 to compare and that gasket was super tight and did not move an inch with zero wind noise. Mine, on the other hand, is loose and curved in some spots. They have a bad batch mixed in with the good/new ones. I'm having toyota change mine out and order that specific part until they can find a new one that fits tight. I was talked out of a lemon on my truck by my dealer until they fix it. I got lucky I guess. Will update with pictures and what to look for if my issue does get resolved.

Anyone from Canada have any luck dealing with this issue yet? My LTD had wind noise from day one. Every person that has ridden in my truck will roll the window down and up because they think it's cracked open since it's so loud. It's on both sides of the cab and getting worse! My 2010 Tundra was quieter. I recently drove a F-250 XLT on a 1000 km trip and it was quieter. My previous F-150 was much quieter. Absolutely unacceptable and when I reported it to the dealership they said they'd never heard about this issue...

I thought you guys were crazy, no wind noise in my canadian platinum w tow mirrors since I picked it up in late august. Until this weekend when it was hella windy - wow, I thought passenger front window was open it was so loud. Depends on wind direction but when it hits it 'wrong' its crazy loud. Not looking forward to this when -30c hits.

Can anyone tell me if the Toyota case managers have a US team and a Canada team or are they all the same? Assume they are split.

Is there a TSB issued yet that I can reference? My service advisor drove my truck, and concluded the wind noise was not excessive, just "a little loud as expected with a truck".

Has me pretty livid. No way for me to really escalate the case when SA calls BS on me. I referenced them back to this forum which they said ," not everything you read on the internet is true" , " just enjoy your truck".
