Anyone with tow mirrors have wind noise???

That would be super interesting if tow mirrors were the saving grace here....

I was able to fix my whistle and wind noise issue today. Thank you @Tundra23owner for photos above. It helped me to realize that I haven't tried taping window to door seal. It's very quiet now that I taped it, now I just need to make dealer replace this seal. 20230221_201046.jpg

Sorry that you're getting these hateful messages. Some people are just morons... It's not like you're a chief engineer/God 100% responsible for this Tundra... It has nothing to do with you if someone's Tundra isn't good or someone doesn't like the new design.

Please just ignore it, we value your expertise and opinion! We need you in this community :)

Zero wind noise other then the usual. It's not the quietest truck I've been on at highway speeds but its better then 80% of the other vehicles I've been in and it's good enough for me.

I have tow mirrors and no noise (hopefully this doesn't jinx me). Sorry for those of you stuck with the whistle. Hopefully it is resolved soon.

Yup. This is the quietest vehicle I have ever owned considering wind, powertrain and road noise. Not that I have even owned anything that would be called a "luxury" car. Not that I even expected a Tundra to approach being as quiet as those. My other vehicle, a Corvette, produces a cacophony of noise compared to the Tundra. But that's how it is supposed to be.

Even in this thread, the reports are wildly inconsistent. Some users say they have no issues, others say its unbearable. The inconsistencies in the reporting + the difficulty to reproduce the noises make it nearly impossible for us to identify the cause and produce a fix. This is probably going to be handled case by case with your dealers until we have a lot more information.

Again, this issue hasn't shown up in any of the test or press vehicles that we have, and I havent experienced it in my own truck. To me, its the quietest vehicle I've ever owned!

Mine, too. Makes me glad I didn't pay extra for active noise cancellation. Nothing really to cancel.

I don’t get the difficulty level of this for Toyota. Seems like the biggest cause is window seals. Redesign them, test the living crap out of the new part. Put it on new trucks, offer it as the warranty replacement. Seems like they’re trying to chase this down and isolate specific air leaks but if it almost all all goes back to weather seals just revise and retest the part. Gotta be cheaper than repeatedly paying dealers to fuss around with the current ones.

I remember when I bought the day 1 Chevy traverse re design. The door seals squeaked over every bump. It was the dry ass runner seated in the paint that would make the high pitched squeal. It was so bad. Chevy finally released felt strips into the door jamb.

of Chevy can fix door seals I’m sure Toyota is working on something. I don’t have high pitched wind noise but do feel maybe it could be quieter so I’m going to see about that taping to see if it makes a difference

The reason its hard to chase down is because its happening on sow few vehicles. If it was on EVERY tundra, that would be the normal course of operation. Since its affecting random trucks, it doesn't point to a process or part problem. We're working on narrowing down exactly whats causing it.

Redesigning and testing a window seal isn't a 10 minute job. That takes months of work, designing with suppliers, retooling factories etc. It isn't as simple as you seem to think. There also isn't 100% certainty that its coming from the window seal, it appears to be from the mirror on some trucks, and from the door seals on other trucks. Why kick off a complete redesign on a window seal when it isn't the cause of the noise on all of these vehicles? It is much cheaper for us to work with dealers and fix on a case-by-case basis than it is for us to re-engineer the entire window seal.

We use that as a case study for our engineers in training. Chevy did a great job of identifying the issue immediately since it was the exact same issue on every Traverse. Much harder to narrow down the issue when it happens on such a small number of Tundras compared to the the total amount sold. I assure you, we're working on it!

This reminds me of my rear diff howl on my 2018 Tacoma. Before installing the TSB myself (I have an SR5 so Toyota refused to help with it, TRD's only) I could hear the howl with the volume above 35. Even after the TSB I can hear it, but after 5 years I've learned to almost ignore it.

My uncle picked up a 2019 TRD Offroad the year after getting my SR5. The rear diff howl in his was almost unbearable. When sitting in the back it was honestly hard to hear people in the front seats talking. My uncle? He couldn't hear a thing... never noticed and couldn't pick it up when I showed him how to get it to make the most noise.

My point is the wind noise is probably even less loud than my uncle's rear diff howl so I imagine some folks may have excess wind noise, but can't hear it.

Issue is they will replace it with the same garbage seal.. lol Toyota has to redesign a seal or something.. I’m just sitting on the sidelines and waiting and hoping they come with a tsb

Have you guys even looked at your gen 3 tundra window seals, vs any other toyota? The quality is so bad imo.

I touched the rubber gasket that sits at the top right corner of the driver door, I dont know if this was glued in before, but now that I touched it once, it wont go back to the original location, that gasket on mine along top of door at least feels like it sits/pops in some groove, but I dont dare try to push it in anymore since that top right corner came loose and now all loosey goosey on me. But what I recall is there is some pressed in insert every 3 or 6 inches that secures the gasket to the door, is it glued in or have a channel to lock/click into, not really sure.

I jump back into 20-30k Camrys and the build quality is seriously 10x better then my 56k tundra. All the interior plastic trim pieces have major flashing - where the molds need to be modified anybody in the injection molding industries can see those are super common problems on brand new molds. I have trim pieces that dont line up to the interior - this should not be in the consumers hands, especially after 1 year of production :(

The absolute worst thing that people actually feel and nobody mentions is the cheap ass door lock, its got a red sticker on it and feels like a toy, it has no real detent and flops around in its space - the comments from ppl when I show them the truck are quite comical

lol is your door lock broken on your new truck - why does it flop so easily - no way toyota would not design it this way - no way i have toyotas and none feel like this - wtf this is a 50k+ truck

I dont know if I hear excessive wind noise or I have read to many of these threads. :) But in general the truck is pretty quiet for me. Do I hear some noise, sure do. It isnt as quiet as the wife’s CX9 Signature or my mustang (when in quiet mode of course). Weirdly I don’t remember the 08 from this perspective even though its only been 2 months. But I do remember the 08 tire/road noise being loud compared to my 23.

I will get this seal replaced soon and will report back.

If all of these seals are bad then all tundra's would have this wind noise, but this isn't the case.

Maybe it's a defective batch or poor installation techniques?

I had wind noise in my 23 Limited at around 70 mph. The dealer said it was the window seal so they replaced it. Have not had it on the interstate yet to test

Figured I'd chime in on my issues as well. This thread has been very informative, and I hope someone from corporate is watching/working on this.

I commented earlier in the thread, but my specific issue is a noise that sounds like someone blowing across a beer bottle, and it occurs between 40 and 60mph. Above 60 is goes away, below 40 it goes away. The noise is present on both sides of the vehicle. Here is the weirdest part.....it only happens when it is cold, like 35°F or colder. My guess is the air density is a critical factor, at least in my case. I've taken it to the dealer and they have been unsuccessful at any repair attempt.

I have not tried to tape up seams, but I will try in the next couple days and report back.

One possibility is a seal stiffening up with temps and becoming less compliant in freezing weather allowing air intrusion only in those conditions.

Toyota should just take a truck in the window tunnel and have an engineer start pushing and taping up things to replicate where it’s coming from. Mirrors are only a small part of the problem from what I’ve read. In my case it’s definitely not the mirror but along the top of the driver door area. Unless I crank the radio and fan blower up it’s ridiculous. Never had a car sound this loud unless I forget to fully close a window. Love the truck overall, but enough to make me consider trading it in.

you guys should see the replaced door/window seal the other guy recently posted

he picked up his truck at night but didnt notice it, but next day went right back in, dealership said it was the packaging of the gasket being shipped to them all smooshed up, and obviously it never relaxed back to its designed when installed - but why install it and have customer come back and do same song and dance over again?

pretty lol if they ship door seals that are feet in width - smooshing up the rubber gasket into a way smaller package

again this is all part of toytoas qa/qc, just seems quite lacking imo, and ive owned yotas since 1987
