Come on man. If you want some real advice all you need is a minivan. Minivan-Megacool.

If your confident enough to drive a van everyone knows you are swinging a big stick.

    But really…

Just put an order in for a Chevy Express today. Optioned well for a cargo van. I wont be driving it its a managers vehicle. Whichever comes first, it or the Tundra. He knows the Tundra is on order, will be quite the surprise if the van comes in.

Quite frankly the van is more capable and you can cherry pick options. Vinyl seats and leather wrapped steering wheel, 2 batteries, extra lighting and storage, 3400 payload, V6, locker, the list goes on. Oh and the big one you can order the trailer brake controller and no hitch so you can actually get a heavy duty hitch aftermarket without a bunch of trouble.

They are about the same price as an SR.

Big difference between a Real Van vs a mini-van.

My van can tow more than a Tundra!

    Curse you Perry the Platypus!
I grew up Ford and have nothing against them. With the Tundra being brand-spanking new, I'd lean towards the F150 due to the ecoboost being around for some time now. As another poster mentioned- devil you know vs devil you don't know PLUS every mechanic across he country can work on it and get parts.

That thread is 20% information and 80% just gossip worse than a quilting bee at the retirement home. Posting multiple views of the same peoples' problems over and over is just a crappy attempt at fake news. The best source we have right now says 10-20 problems out of 10K trucks. That's 0.1% (Or about how many 2007s dropped their drive shafts on the road, and much fewer than the number of Gen2.5s that spurt oil from their cam towers.) The real number remains to be seen, but all the Karens yelling about it is getting old.

Hopefully you’re right as I refuse to believe Toyota is knowingly mass producing a bad Tundra product… it kills all those years of being the best truck option (just my opinion) Glad your truck is running good - maybe you should start a thread that has all of the benefits of a new ‘22 and get things back on track!!

Jealous? Not even remotely jealous! Hater? Yeah, hate to see cars become go-karts, and trucks become cars. We can't have good things because too many people keep buying crap vs. demanding better.

I think we have 5 cases documented right now with some actual data.

The worrisome part to me is not the failure but the poor response Toyota has had in getting parts out to fix the trucks. I read a few re-posted things that indicate Toyota is now expediting parts a bit better though.

I don't know what business you're in, but most I know can't get half of what they need from suppliers. It's an odd time. I saw something similar when the 2018 Jeep JL came out. My jeep had to go to the dealer first week for a software problem for the air bag system. There were a good bit of other problems, but some waited a month for parts. Apparently you can't just pull one off the assembly line and divert it to an individual. Sounded simple to me, but I can't expect to understand the ins and outs of a complex auto assembly process with different departments and blah, blah, blah. I don't see anything different here, and my bet is that Toyota would have done a lot better than Jeep (duh) if they weren't in the midsts of a supply chain problem like we haven't seen since the last world war.

3M just notified my company that a solvent used in the cleaning of medical devices (lots of MFGs use it) has gone from an in-stock status to a 6 month lead time. Because they can't get a base material for the solvent. Crap is hitting the fan all over due to supply chain stuff.

I agree for the most part except that the cam tower leak is unlikely to leave me stranded somewhere.

I have friends who are traveling nurses. The biggest concerns they all speak of is trying to find affordable, decent furnished housing in safe areas. You might want to consider getting a truck that will be able to tow a travel trailer should housing become an issue for you.

Once you load any Tundra to or above payload, the gas mileage is gonna fall like a rock, that is why I would just get the gas F250 and have much more truck.

This is my set up (without the 4k box..), Living full time currently out of it and bumming around MTB/ski towns. I have a double cab and I store my bike in the back seat so its secure. I have buddies who are traveling nurses and they use 5th wheels and park at various rv parks. Has a motorcycle so they can cruise around town easily. This is a pretty ideal set up. You will get pretty screwed on short term rentals if you decide to rent an apartment somewhere for 3 months.

Ok, perhaps instead I should instead have mentioned the 2020s sudden loss of steering, or the suddenly failing fuel pump (that would indeed leave you stranded)
Or perhaps we could talk about a fire in the truck from faulty wiring (that only affected 158,489 Tundras from 2018-2021). Yeah you can just keep on driving with that.
My point is every year has issues and recalls, and every year has items that can leave you stranded. (Note the turbo problem leaves the vehicle still able to drive 60 mph - not exactly stranded). These were your model year trucks. Yet you pretend this turbo issue on a tiny number (compared to your tundras with 158K from one issue) is the end of Toyota's reliability. Selective memory and prejudice.

Check again. To date, there's been no autistic screeching from me on the turbo issue or any other 2022 issues.

Yes, let’s talk about the headlight wiring fire issue. Guess how many out of those nearly 160k trucks actually caught fire? NINE. Out of almost 160k. That’s 0.005679% of the recalled trucks. Toyota over-responding to extremely rare issues like this is not an indictment on those trucks. I actually like the 3rd gen trucks. I’ll end up in one in several years I’m sure. But for now, my nearly brand new, 14 year old, comparatively simplistic truck is perfect for me.

My apologies. I have seen so much negative "screeching" it's hard to keep score.
and @Terndrerrr , I'm glad Toyota caught that before the rest caught fire. I'm sure they will figure out the few problems with the 2022s just as well. That is my point. (Please note that to date, the amount of 2022s that have caught fire is zero.)
Now I must apologize to the OP for misusing his thread in my attempt to provide balance. I'm out on this one.

Haha. I don’t expect any year of any Tundra to catch fire. Toyota is on top of their few problems. If anything, correcting the current (hopefully/apparently rare?) issues with the 3rd gen is a slower moving process due to factors outside of Toyota’s control.

Pointing out recalls doesn’t make the point you think it does. The number of trucks with actual issues occurs at a wildly lower rate for 1st and 2nd gen Tundras than other trucks, and the way Toyota has handled them tends to be far better than other manufacturers. Will this also be true of the 3rd gen? Based on Toyota’s track record, I’d like to think so. I understand people’s hesitation with the issues we’re seeing, but I don’t understand the hate. I mean, most of the hate comes from the truck’s looks. I have never understood why people have such strong opinions on the looks of something that I view as a tool. I understand even less people who go out of their way to declare their disdain for said tool’s appearance, but then again I’m not a young child. :notsure:

Yeah, I haven’t been screeching either. Lots of people have been saying the sky is falling with the 3rd gen, but I have always said I’ll probably end up in one after putting a couple hundred k on mine. Still wish Toyota would have moved the needle a little more with payload, but I’ll probably never need to tow more than a boat, so whatever.

Lack of ground clearance and lack of 4LO keeps me out of vans. AWD's like Sienna and Transit do fine on plowed roads and have huge cargo space, plus side door and rear hatch. Theres' always a ton of tradeoffs when considering an overland/roadtrip kind of vehicle.
