Both nice choices, but for me and the wife I think we'd do the cruise.

I would say do both, but Safari first when you are younger. Once you have children, it is difficult to tell when your next leisurely vacation will be, haha. By the time you get another opportunity like this, you might not feel like sleeping in a tent next to lions.

Cruise. Johannesburg is the rape and abduction capital of the world.

And to your concern regarding the stop duration: you can always return to the places you like (e.g. Greece) or say if you hate Rome you're only there temporarily never to return.
If you find out the safari/Africa isn't your thing once you get down there....

One more thing: is it a cruise ship? (5000+ people?)

Or cruise boat ( <50 people)?

Look into European river cruises. They fall into the latter category. 2 weeks or so. Longer stops. Less crowds / headaches.

One way to cover both options would be for you to go on the safari and I could take your wife on the cruise. PM me the schedule, always glad to help a brother out.

I don't remember hearing on the news that Michael J Fox got married!?! @Marty McFly your true colors are shining now...

I would do the cruise though. Something about the possibility of being mauled by a Lion just doesn't sound appealing.

I'd have to go for the safari... As a recent(ish) honeymooner myself, I'd take privacy & fewer people all day long. The cruise will always be there as an option, even down the road with kids... I'd also suggest though that to do Europe properly, I wouldn't go near a cruise. Internal flights are so cheap, they have awesome train services too and you'll be able to go far off the beaten track rather than the main tourist locations to really experience the culture. If you were to fly into London and then out of somewhere like Athens or Rome, you could make your way South at your own pace. I once took an overnight train from London to the Alps once - it was a great experience and one of the best ways to travel...

Sorry.. longwinded rambly answer - go for Africa, if you want help for Europe, PM me, I'm English and have traveled to a lot of Europe

I'd do the safari. Rome, Italy, Greece are all great places to go; however, I don't think I could handle another cruise. It just wasn't my cup of tea. The ships are nice and plenty to do, but it's just way too many people confined to a boat. Everything you do is crowded. If you do the cruise, make sure to get a room with a balcony. That was the best "upcharge" my money bought. Being able to sit on my very own balcony looking over the water was nice and peaceful.

DO NOT! I repeat, DO NOT go anywhere near the Spearmint Rhino!!! We made quite an impression there. They might recognize you and if they say, "Hey Marty" in front of your wife... you're done for.

Both good options. For a newly married couple I'd recommend the cruise option. HOWEVER....

I've been on a cruise and wished I'd spent the whole 5 days at either of the port cities we visited. So on our honeymoon we spent a week at a Sandals Resort in Antigua. Everything is pre-paid for, no kids running around. A free, open bar in your room at the side of every pool/spa.

I love the Caribbean, but we've been there before. We want a vacation that we more than likely wouldn't be able to do again in the future.
