Hahaha! It’s easy to think I’m that motivated if you see it all lumped together like that. But all that work was spanned over about 3 years.

And pretty much everything we’ve done has been installed to enable more laziness on the trail. It’s silly how much work I’m willing to put in so I can avoid work later. :bananadead:

35s. Toyo makes a pretty heavy tire and they run a little closer to the advertise size.

ussdgates thanks for replying. maybe I didn't explain my self. what I actually need to know is the wheel size. quick story short I bought a truck w 20" wheels and 35x 12.5 tires and im trying to down size on wheels so I don't know if 17 or 18 are better for the truck.

Ahh, 17s. With 17s the offset is pretty aggressive. I think mine was+0 so there was a lot of trimming to the front finder and I already had the CMC.

And rating. An E rated tire will ride significantly different from a D rated.

I’m talking about the rim clearing the caliper. I have read some 17 inch rims won’t clear. But definitely true about the tire.

I wouldn’t mind a set of 17s with 35s for off-road fun and switch back to a near stock size on my 18s for daily use. Best of both worlds.

I think I completely misunderstood something along the way. LoL. I thought someone was talking about sidewall stiffness. :anonymous:

Watch the offsets. A lot of 17” rims are 0 offset which makes clearing big tires more complicated. The Toyota Rock Warrior rims are (I think) +50 offset and that is super rare.

If you can get between +15 and +25 offset that’s a good sweet spot for fitting large tires.

@airgunner don't take this the wrong way. I'm not offended or trying to offend here. Although your statement is generally justified it's not always completely accurate.

I'm currently on a LRT 3/1 spacer lift with 35's because that was the fastest way for me to get into the woods with my truck. The off-road terrain I spend my time in is mostly dense forest with overgrown, narrow, rutty logging roads. There's not really any room for the awesome "go-fast" kind of off-roading here.

Would I like a legit off-roading setup when I'm out on a trail, complete with new springs, shocks, shackles, gears and an LSD or airlocker? Sure I would, but I'd have to accumulate parts and mods for several years before getting the truck dirty if I insisted on all of that first.

This winter I had to chain up to make it through an unmaintained forestry road with deep snow. I also had to use a strap to pull several downed limbs and trees out of the way to make it to where I was going and no poser pictures were taken.

Point is, this truck will get you a lot of places off the beaten path with just a spacer lift and some bigger tires for traction and clearance.

Get to the dirt first and figure out how much you need as you go. It's more fun that way. (Unless you've got the cash to go all the way right out of the gate. That's pretty fun too.)

I always thought it distributed the weight more, resulting in less pounds per square inch: however, it would certainly increase 'friction'.

Of course, we might need a scientist to know.

P.S. I coached a Samoan kid once. I knick-named him the 'mouth-foamin' Samoan': if I had had 10 of him, I could have taken over the world.:muscleflexing: That dude was like a pig at breakfast: totally committed. [Ya' know, some people, like chickens, are just involved, but the pig ...]
