Why shouldn't I get a new f150?

My old truck was an 01 XLT with the 4.3 V6. I loved that truck and wish I kept it for hunting but it was gutless with no torque. It had over 200k on it so it was probably pretty tired but it didn’t have one rattle or squeak and drove down the highway very nice. I’d have a hard time giving up a V8 for a non turbo V6 though.

You should go for it if you like it. It's not the best selling truck for no reason. I for one though hate it. I've driven the v8 and just hated how it drove hated how it felt and hated the poor visibility. I grew up in a ford family but i have to say they aren't built like they used to. Family has had lots of problems in the last five years with new fords.

Why shouldn't you get an F-150? In a word: reliability. And, as others have said, 4x2 and NA V6 just don't make sense in a full size truck. You could get a lot of car for the price you're paying for that truck.

One of my father in law's coworkers offered to sell me his 2017 F-150 Lariat because he bought himself a Tesla. I declined when I saw that it has a dozen recalls for eight separate issues. And that's on a design that hadn't changed substantially since 2015.

    Fixed that for you.

Well you will all be happy to know that I am not buying the f150. The standard v6 was plenty for what I need but I hated the visibility and interior layout. I also thought it looked and felt extremely cheap.

I’m sure it will sell as it’s a good deal out there for someone and they actually offered $1k more for my tundra when I said I wasn’t interested after the test ride. I’ll prob just pay off the tundra with my tax return and eoy bonus and enjoy.

As someone has mentioned, I have thought about buying a little $5k Prius to put the miles on as I don’t need the truck for my actual job.

    4x2 F-150 with a 3.3 V6?

I’ve driven that very similar spec truck for a rental vehicle while my work van was in shop. It’s quiet, feels light and
Acceleration isn’t terrible. Just annoying with the tranny constantly slapping through gears.

It’s your money, we’re just truck nuts on a web forum!

However...the truck you are looking at isn’t desirable used. A 2.7 EcoToot has more giddy up and achieves similar or better mpg.
I have Sync 3 in my 2018 F-250 work truck and I hate it, compared to my 2017 Tundra with the Tesla radio gen 3...

Well, thanks for the entertaining thread. Your question was kind of like going to a vegan forum and asking if you should start eating meat. Or going to a lesbian forum and asking if you should go back to men.

    But here's your answer:

And the reason it's the best selling is fleet sales. Ford gives fleet discounts way better than the other manufacturers. I really wish there was a way to split out fleet sales to see what vehicles people are actually buying, not just companies going after the cheapest buy.

Forget a prius. A cheap one will need a new battery soon enough. Get a 4 cyl accord. Plenty comfortable with rock solid mpg/reliability

I feel like F150 is also the truck that people who don't really know anything about trucks buy but I can't really put my finger on why.

If I could get my 51 F-100 back, I'd do it but with all the problems we've had with Fords in the past few years, enough is enough, especially considering how well our new to us 2007 DC Tundra runs with 244,000+ miles on it.

Hell I don't know OP. I got no real world experience in any other truck. My tundy is my first everyday truck not counting my 56' chevy tinker project truck (sold). And so far I really can't complain. Whiskey 3's been real good. Only a crappy battery. No cam tower business, aip stuff and even with suck ass non jbl head unit. my bluetooth streams just fine. :notsure:

Been thinking about this Ford question for a while. Got a question: you got a steady girl? If yes, how bigga girl is she? Is she the all you can eat shrimp at red lobster or the grilled chicken salad with the dressing on the side type? Around my parts its gettin hard to find one under 300 lbs. short answer: if you have a chunky monkey keep the tundra. If you’ve got a human toothpick, get the v6 ford.

OP, glad to hear you're not getting the Ford. Especially the plain V6. That's just gross.

Am I the only one that thinks the F150 styling is lame and weak looking? I do like Raptors, but the plain old road queen F150 is terrible. No "wow" factor at all.

    I don’t like the idea of downsizing from a Toyota 5.7L V7 to a Ford 3.3L V6. It’s a hell of a downgrade IMO

I would say there's no point in trading to an F-150. The mileage that you actually get probably won't be that much different and unless you get a Regular Cab with a heavy payload package you won't have much more payload either. If you need to step up to the 250 or 350 then it might be worth it.

LOL. That’s what I said, “I love my truck and I don’t really need this truck”.

I was in similar position two weeks ago for a trade on my 2016 on a new 2019 pro with the dealer giving me 30k for mine, letting me take most of my mods with 1k off the pro and throwing in a new Bak rollover tonneau in the deal.
I posted here for advice and ran numbers and numbers then I called a Friend I trust and told me my truck was Badass and that I was smitten and needed to sleep on it.
Got a lot of similar feedback here.
I kept my truck and bought a new 2018 LED lamp I needed and harness to celebrate. Truth be known, mine is tuned well and I like the way mine drove much more than the pro I drove. Saved some dough in the process.

    “Whew!”

Good luck with whatever you decide

Nothing quite as nice as sitting in a new truck but I think you will eventually regret giving up 100hp and 4wd. If you're the guy who trades in his truck every year or so then it probably doesn't matter what you park your ass in. I think any truck out there will give you 12 months. I really feel if you purchased this truck you'd keep it for a year tops, you'd miss the power

I had a 2016 F150. I now have a 2019 Tundra. I went almost all of 2018 without my F150 due to an unknown power issue where I could start the truck in my driveway, drive two blocks, turn it off and it would be totally dead. The dealership actually tried and tried and tried everything possible to fix it without ever admitting it was a lemon or possessed but to no avail. I still will never know the answer. So I started truck shopping again.

I suggest all of you do this. Read the tundra forum posts casually. You will see “Hi, new tundra owner...”. You will see “help with self induced problem from mod I’m doing”. “Wheel and tire and suspension beautification” posts. And the occasional actual mechanical or electrical assistance post in between all the other modification posts.

Now go to the Ford F-150 forums and read the posts on them and it is reversed. It is all help with this software flash or upgrade. Help with electrical. Help with mechanical, then help with beautification.

I went and got my Tundra as soon as possible. Yes we are fanboys and girls on this forum so opinions will be biased. But the bias comes from research by this group as a whole and the opinions are formed based on individuals actual real world testing of wheels, tires, UCAs, exhaust, and the trucks overall. The vendors on this forum know they better not be selling BS because they will get called out and blackballed by this community. Everyone helps each other out here from black ac vents to turbochargers. It’s amazing. You will not find that in the Ford forums. Probably because everyone is so upset and angry at their trucks. Their last stop is online for help whereas here people check in daily with “happy to be here. New owner from so and so. My favorites that people don’t even pay attention to are the “hi, new owner happy to be here” then you read and they just bought a 2008 with 275k on it and they are happy as hell to be here.

You will never see that in a Ford F-150 forum.

    Not nearly enough room here!
"My Dad, his Dad and his Dad bought Fords" I've heard it time and time again. Without the first bit of effort or research on their part, they'll go running off into the sunset, following where their Ford dealer leads them and swallowing what their Ford dealer feeds them. I joined a F-150 Forum years ago just to ask a simple question. I mentioned looking at Tundras too and was called names that "opened my eyes" to the (class individuals) I was dealing with. Here, you'll find advise and help mixed with some humor and opinion. When you deal with people who only know what they ASSUME, prepare to be disappointed, I certainly was.
