I know I am on the tundra page here and I LOVE my tundra but my local ford dealer who I bought it from last year is making some serious moves to clear 2019 inventory.

    here is the deal:

I have a 2015 tundra crewmax that I purchased a year ago with 68k miles for $31k. It just turned over 100k miles as I drive 25-30k miles a year on average. I have not performed the 100k mile service with plugs (that I will do 20k miles early for convenience). All that will be around $1k. The truck runs great and is my DD.

I bought it used from a Ford dealer and they usually follow up every quarter. Well, I just talked to my sales guy and it seems Ford is really offering some great incentives on remaining 2019 f150s. He just sent me the numbers and for a 2019 crewcab 3.3L v6, 4x2 XLT, I am at $30k OTD, including my trade.

I really love my tundra and feel like I will get plenty of years out of it but a brand new truck for basically the cost of fees and taxes , plus 0% financing for 72 months is hard to pass up. Not to mention the technology is much better as is the gas mileage (even though I dont pay for it)

    Here is the breakdown.

Tundra balance: $26,500k balance @ 5% but will be paid off in 2020.
New F150 XLT : $27,500 + fees(including BS dealer doc fee) , taxes, tags, $1500 neg equity = $30k @0% for 72 month. Still would pay off within 12 months but would consider prolonging.

    Thoughts or opinions.?

Go get your Ford. What you “save” now you will pay for later.

If you make the switch, be prepared to spend an average of 40-50 days per year without your Ford. That thing will be in the shop every other month.

3.3 liter? Leave your man card at the dealership when you finish the deal:p

That is probably the lowest powered engine in the line up. Probably the reason it's a slow mover literally and figuratively. I'd think long and hard before giving up 100HP and and 1/3 of the torque you have.

The base 3.3L V6 engine option delivers a higher towing capacity than ever before with 7,700 lbs. This engine has been designed with a higher compression ratio and maximum combustion peak pressure for an impressive performance. Standard on the XL and XLT trim levels, drivers will enjoy the 6-speed automatic transmission, 290 HP, and 265 lb.-ft. of torque

I haven't owned a ford in years but the last one I had served me very well. 1997 expedition with the triton v8 and I got 181k miles out of that with very little work.

Based on the math, looks like $25k. He lists negative equity of $1500.

OP, do whatever makes you happiest, but I would think long and hard about it.

What's your big "sell" for moving to the Ford? Just the technology and features? You can get quite a bit of interior upgrades for the $3,500 difference between your current loan and the new one.

TBH, I am not in the market as I mentioned I do really love my tundra. I was simply thinking that a new truck with o miles, 0% for 72 months, and no $1k main bill to cover sounds nice. especially since I drive so much. The gas mileage increase is nice from a convenience standpoint but I don't pay for gas so its basically a time saver.

If you plan on trading it in every four or five years, get what you want and what makes you happy. Although I have heard they do end up in the shop more often than not. I know they will fix it, but being without your truck sucks a whole bunch. But you won’t know until you try it. You can always come back to Toyota.

    That's understandable.

However, look at it this way. You've already taken your depreciation hit. Toyota arguably holds their value better than any other brand. Look a couple years down the road; 200k on the Tundra and 100k on the Ford, whats your resale value of each? Best of luck to you!

its crazy though how my 2015 sr5 4x4 is worth just a few dollars less than this brand new f150 after rebates and discounting. Makes me damn happy I never purchased a used 2015 f150 a year ago. lol

good point. I would assume it would be close in value but i would think in 5 years the 5 year newer truck with 1/2 the miles would still be worth more.

I do think if I want to do it I could get it done for around the same balance as what I owe , minus taxes and tags ( which will be 700.00) . I will tell them " my wife says I can only do the deal if I dont increase debt!" LOL.

Your current truck is basically brand new. Its only 4 years old? The mileage doesn’t mean that much if it is all highway

The ford tech seems great, but you will be in the dealer constantly getting it worked on. Just a reality it has lots of bugs, patches and downloads

Our work trucks are Fords and I have to make several long distance work trips in them. They have 40-60k miles on them and based on how they drive you couldn’t pay me to take a Ford.

While I don’t like six cylinders in gas trucks, I do really enjoy boost! Boost is very fun and gives you the feeling that it’s even faster than it really is. I think it’s because of turbo lag, it lags then it takes off like a bat out of hell.

I always seem to get the best deals when I don’t really want something. If I can take it or leave it it seems people really want to do a deal with you. It also makes it easy to walk away if the deal isn’t on fire.

The F150 will be nice, but the reliability just isn't there. I had a friend that bought a 2017 F150 with the V8. Fast forward to summer of 2019 and he's now in a new Tundra. There's a reason for that.

I am a little skeptical about owning a vehicle with a new unproven motor. the 3.3 has only been around for a year.

    Another Tundra vs F150 thread...

There's a reason Ford sells a million per year. They are very good are luring buyers, even current F150 owners with almost new trucks

Your financial analysis doesn't show the whole picture, but in the end you will be spending more.

    2015 5.7 Crewcab
You didn't say you had a 4x4 in the initial post. So, let's see: Lose 100 HP and 1/3 the torque and the ability to drive 2 extra wheels and take a shit load of depreciation.?
Am I missing something That truck will be worthless in 7 years with the miles you are driving. I looked at a similar deal on a 8K demo that was the current year model. Spent almost a year before pulling the trigger on mine. Shiny new shit catches your eye.

Hell you can get a 2019 WT package for probably not much more

    I wouldn't trade a V8 for a NA V6 tbh. If you really want a F150 try to get the V8.
