Why no love for Mesquite?

Picked mine up today! I have officially joined Club Mesquite!

Added TRD running boards an hour ago, and next up is my Miller cat shield when it arrives.

Mirror caps after that!

How did the mustache repair work for you? Still debating whether to get the painted one or leave it chrome.

 

I like the look of it painted but I’m concerned about how long it will last. The shop did a great job but I’m wondering if their clear coat will last as long as the factory. I decided to hold on to my chrome mustache in case I have issues down the road. Taking off the mustache is a little time consuming but can be done without breaking tabs. I wish Toyota made the tabs on the lower stache as robust as the upper part. It’s amazing how much the Smoked Mesquite mirror caps add to the appearance of the truck.

 

@Tundra17944Ever got my mirror caps! Ready to install them! What do you think I should do with the "Tundra" badge on the tailgate? Raised gloss black letters?

 

I went with matte black but was wondering if I should have gone with gloss black. I have a carbon fiber set for sale at a deep discount in the Marketplace. See the pictures.

 

@Tundra17944Ever you were right, the mirror covers were simple to pull off and replace. The hooks were in the OEM color replacement but not the chrome caps. They LOOK broken off but like you, I couldn't find any evidence that they ever existed. Mesquite caps are on now and it looks like an improvement!

How did you do your rear bumper? That looks good to me and I think I want to try that as well. Moustache is going to stay chrome for me. Did you source your black tailgate handle and replace?

 

I’m glad the mirror caps worked for you. Yes I bought the black handle and replaced it. I also bought the bumper arms and had them painted when the mustache was painted. Removal and reinstalling were not too bad. The color matched bumper makes a huge difference in appearance to me.

 

Just got mine, 2023. now trying to figure out best running boards, and cover. (Former AT4 owner)

"Best" running boards IMO would be the AMP Research power ones if/when they become available. In the meantime I got the AL TRD running boards. They look great but the bedliner material will take the skin off the back of your legs the first few times you exit your truck until you remember they are there.

I have the Bakflip MX4 tonneau, it works well so far, no complaints.

Welcome brown brother! I love the shine in your pic. I second the MX4. I will say I just made a 2.5 hour drive with it fully open. It catches a lot of wind but was rock solid.

 

The Mesquite mirror caps make the difference to me. I think I'm good with the current level of chrome now.

Welcome. Mine has the retractable steps. I went with bakflip MX4s revolver. Looks awesome and seals pretty good.

 

Some light Mesquite off-roading today. Still in love with this color and still not seeing that many on the road.

 

Looking good brother! I did some experimenting with my truck and discovering its limits and got some shots of the stock suspension articulated.





I’m also think about Dirty Deeds catback to clear obstacles because the stock muffler rubs occasionally since it’s a low point with the dif.

Thinking of getting air bags for towing, I noted a bit of squat with my travel trailer. Not much, but just a tad. TRD offroad doesn't come with AVS. Pulls like a beast though - NO trouble accelerating up the Halloran Summit past the slow trucks in the way. Had to keep backing out of it to stay under 80.

Are you planning to go with oem bags or aftermarket?

 

Others in this site have recommended Airlift Loadlifter 5000 series. I'm still in research mode, never had air bags before. I used Sumo Springs in my Tacoma that worked well for me. Not sure of the pluses/minuses yet. Fun stuff hah?

 

I’m in the same boat wondering if I should switch over dobinsons spring and shocks to help with the load or go with bags the only thing I worry about is the maintenance for airbags since I don’t know much about them.

My latest weekend project. Smoked Mesquite EVERYTHING! I will also be installing a set of Diode Dynamics amber fog lights. I’ll post pics of the completed installation.

 

@Tundra17944Ever don't keep us in suspense! What does your fog light cover/amber light combo look like?

I looked at your rear bumper again and the more I look at it the more I want to get rid of the chrome there in favor of Mesquite paint. You said you had yours professionally painted or did you buy pre-painted parts somewhere (like the mirror caps)?

 

I will be installing everything this morning. Pics will follow. As for the rear, I bought replacement bumper arms and had them painted.
