Whipple supercharger available this year :burnrubber: the hard part will be convincing the wife down the road. $7-8k vs 50-60k for a new truck shouldn’t be too hard of an argument:devil:

Pulled the trigger on a 2016 Platinum. I want something without TSS but wanted the 38 gallon tank. The Tundra will stay for a long time. I'd consider selling my E36 BMW M3 for a super fuel efficient car if gas creeps past $5

"The price will be slightly higher this time and trim levels will largely remain."

I think my 2018 might be the last truck I ever own. Unless gas spikes to >$5, I'm going to keep it for as long as I can, which will hopefully last me through the next 9 years or so until retirement. I figure by then, a new half ton will probably cost $70,000 and I won't want to drop the money.

Maybe we should change the title of this thread to "How many times can we repost the same thread about waiting for the new Tundra".:stirthepot:

Having debuted in 2006 for the 2007 model year, the current-gen Tundra allowed ample time for speculation to build up. A company insider is claiming high-end versions of the upcoming Tundra will adopt a hybrid drivetrain employing a turbocharged 3.5-liter V6.

That’s the engine found in Lexus’ new-for-2018 LS sedan, which generates 416 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque without the assistance of electricity. The source claims the truck’s hybrid setup is similar to the wildly complex Multi Stage Hybrid System found in the LS 500h, with output projected to be in the area of 450 hp and 500 lb-ft. Toyota is reportedly aiming for a fuel economy figure of 30 mpg or higher. That’s a highway figure, surely.

If true, Toyota wouldn’t have the fledgling hybrid truck market all to itself. Ford’s F-150 hybrid should debut well before the next-gen Tundra arrives in 2021 or 2022. Apparently, the cab and bed of the new Tundra have yet to be finalized, so don’t expect to see a surprise early introduction.

me..I want to see improvements. Gen 3 is just a gen 2 with minor cosmetics. Not enough to jump ships. I would not buy the 1st year though so probably would be waiting til at least 2024. Meanwhile my gen 2 will get a lot of use :)

I wouldn't buy the first year of a new design right when it comes out, but I would consider buying it as a used truck 4 or more years after it debuted

I think about this and wonder why you have not lost full faith in Toyota. Your situation reminds me of why I switched from Ford to Toyota. Do you ever just get pissed off enough to want to be done with the Toyota brand?

Pretty sure that I'm going to keep my current truck until it falls apart. One of the main reasons that I chose the Tundra was that it seemed like it will have the durability to outlast me.

Def not. The one thing for me is that I like having a paid off truck, and then getting cars. Why would I ever want a new truck when I'm getting a Tesla Model 3 EOY. Trucks are meant to be kept. Cars are meant to be swapped.

The 2021 would have to solve some sort of super-compelling problem, as compared to my 2018; only things I can think of at the moment that I would find “super-compelling” would be MASSIVE increases in both payload and fuel economy. Otherwise, I’m keeping my 2018 until it either dies or is stolen (or both).

This. And even then, the fuel economy benefit would only be worth it to me if gas went way up to something like $6/gal. If gas hits $6, I'll buy a Civic.

I am going to wait until I have 500,000 miles on my 2016 that I bought new. I put around 12.5k miles a year on it and it currently has 47k miles on it. I have not done the math to see how long it will take for me to reach my 500k trade target date.
