Yeah, not getting into environmental stuff. Speaking purely for dietary purposes.

we make a metric shit ton of humus.

you are correct. my clothes are not made of hemp and i do not buy vegan everything. call me a partial hippie.

full vegan is doable but difficult. we tried. grocery runs every other day and the sheer amount of food prep make things difficult. it's also hard, almost impossible, to eat out. there are a couple of full vegan restaurants here in denver that are beyond awesome. some of my cookbook recommendations came from them.

I don't think anyone would get banned unless they went political. Talking about fishing/overfishing practices and waste isn't political. I just wanted to keep the thread true to the purpose of discussing dietary things.

Agreed. Or I at least hope that wouldn't be considered political.

Also agree. This thread has been very informative so far. I didn't realize we had so many closet vegans on here. :)

Same here about the leather seats.

I’m enjoying this thread as I grew up eating meat AND fresh farm veggies. I’ve experimented with Vegan for a couple months straight and really liked it, but finally succumbed and can’t go for longer than a week now without busting out the meat.

My main takeaway is how many new spices I didn’t know about and how tasty vegan meals are compared to plain over boiled soggy in a pot type veggies.

Compared to others delivery services, Purple Carrots items are super fresh. The rare time something doesn’t look super fresh they get a call and make it right with refund or another free meal.

Report back what you think on this thread as I’m sure this one will live in infamy! Hahahaha

Yeah, the title of that thread says it all. It's going into the politics of animal rights. That's a hot button for lots of people. This one is sticking to the dietary side of it, so civility is easy.

I think that is probably gonna be my goal for red meat. Maybe even less, but I don't think I want to abandon chicken. I love it lots. My big problem is that I love fried food, and it's just so bad for you.

I have followed a similar path growing up, but I never tried going full vegan or full anything else for that matter. Fresh authentic food is best, and you can add a lot of healthy flavors to whatever you are eating. I tend to use a good bit of real butter on my foods, but I won't touch the fake butter served in most restaurants... not sure how butter fits into the Vegetarian / vegan diet, not sure I really care either.

Vegetarian? I try to steer that way because I know most readily available meat isn't naturally raised. I frequently remind myself that meat, processed foods (anything packaged), and refined sugar is creeping poison. Meat isn't only bad. The fact that a lot of it tastes good is trojan. I try to avoid it and eat whole natural foods whenever I can. But I do indulge in salmon once a week and a good cut of steak every other week or so. Otherwise I've virtually eliminated all pork, poultry and other beef. I'm no PETA, I do it for personal health.

I no longer drink pop or diet pop. I still can't break away so I drink carbonated water with meals. The trouble is it turns to carbonic acid and is bad for teeth, so I rinse with tap water afterward (brushing every time isn't practical). At work I keep hydrated and always have a large water beside me. I take my coffee black, maybe a couple a day. I don't drink or smoke.

So yeah, I do eat junk once in a while but I try to make conscious decisions. I guess being more consistent with them is one of my resolutions.

Butter would not go in vegan, but would be ok in vegetarian... even though you don't care. :p I personally prefer margarin. I don't like the taste of real butter. Just not what I grew up with.

Grab an air fryer. Makes for some really good fried chicken. Skin gets crispier than deep fried. Tastier with the proper spicing, too.
