    Let’s stir up some shit!

doing a 30 day ‘challenge’ if you will with the guys from work. On day 4.

Born and raised Texan - love steak and fajitas so we’ll see how long I last.

    anyone a long term vegetarian?

I did a 30-day vegan challenge summer/fall before last. Felt great at the end. It was incredibly difficult initially and making sure that I had enough of the right proteins was annoying. But it's definitely doable and I'd recommend it to anyone (with your doc's okay of course).

Another plus was I found a bunch of new restaurants that I like b'c of it.

You'd be sorely disappointed in the land of Meat and 3. Hell even our veggies are swimming in pork fat.

Experimented being vegan which is way different and more hardcore than vegetarian.

Learned a few really good things along the way, such as:

    1) New spices (some good and others not).

    2) Cashew cheese is amazing.

    3) Soy tacos are pretty good.

Kidding aside, I do clean Keto when I can. Grass fed beef, organic, antibiotic free chicken, wild caught sockeye salmon, etc. I occasionally slip with pizza or a burger. My vegetarian record was 90 days, changed my life. Was pre-diabetic and had auto-immune issues. Went from 267lbs->185...@194lbs now with much more muscle and a resting heart rate of 54bpm. 55 years old and no meds. Ride bikes!! :bananadance:

It's not a meal until the flesh of a once living creature is on my plate. Humans developed over milennia to be highly effective omnivores. Our bodies are genetically designed to require the consumption of meat.

Besides, my stone age ancestors didn't fight their way to the top of the food chain for me to wuss out and swear off meat.

I don't know if it was actual fighting that got us to the top but I agree with you about needed meat with every meal. Let's not forget Gorillas are vegetarians and they are one of the strongest on earth.

Yeah, I'm on a new eating regimen, consisting mostly of meat and raw fruits and vegetables. Some days, I do more of a keto thing. Main thing is to cut out sugar and carbs.

My wife is going more vegetarian and supplementing her protein intake with things like chick peas [which I understand to be garbanzo beans], etc.

Wasn't sure if I was following your comments correctly: did you go completely vegan for a time? Can you explain what helped you a little better?

P.S. I've seen a lot of the straight veggie guys around college campuses [like Austin] and none of them had any muscle mass or tone. Just sayin'. Gorillas were made to eat veggies. Man is a carnivore.

to be fair, if we want to go back that far, every part of the world was different. Many relied on hunting only, and many relied on gathering only.

Vegan is a lifestyle. I hear the word get thrown around a lot in the wrong way. Vegans don't wear leather or have leather products, won't use honey cause to them it exploits bees, no dairy of any kind etc etc.

What most people are doing is eating a plant based diet or a vegetarian diet.

Vegetarian is easy. I’ve done a few stints of vegan for about 5 weeks each time. Never felt better but it’s really hard if nobody else around you is on board. Now vegan may be tough, try out WFPB (whole food plant based) - that’s hard!
