17 years ago tomorrow I was getting ready for work at my civilian job. I worked (if you can call it that) while waiting for the call from my unit to say I was needed on base or we were being activated. And wondering if my cousin was ok because he workedat the Pentagon....so I was waiting for word on him also. Its a shitty thing waiting and not being able to do shit

Getting up to go to the gym, turned on the TV and watched in shock.

Got hired as a deputy sheriff the month prior...still doing it 17 years later.

I finished what I was doing took a couple hours went and grabbed my son bought some supplies for just incase. Then prayed in silence for all my family and friends.

I was waking up for class in college. Turned on the TV to check baseball scores and saw the second plane hit. I called my uncle who was flying to NYC for work, he was okay. Called a family friend from FDNY, he unfortunately was not ok. I went to Manhattan the next week to help out however I could. I go back as much as I can and this year I brought my daughter.

I was at home recovering from a LOD injury watching the morning news that was live in the area and knew right away that it was a terrorist attack. I went back to work the next day and worked 20 hour shifts for the next few weeks. I lost my ex-partner and a friend. Since that day I have lost several other friends from the 9-11 illnesses. May they all rest in peace.

Texas telephone association convention at a hotel in Arlington. Walked into the lobby just after the first jet hit the north tower. The second jet hit the south tower while we watched the coverage on a television.

That day still chills me to the bone.

I was in graduate school. My alarm clock was the radio, and the report of what was going on woke me up.

I was in my third year of being at college. Getting ready to go into work, watching the news and seeing the first tower smoking. Then saw the second plane hit. Un-real. Thinking of my sister in Chicago. One thing I will never be able to shake is the jumpers. Seeing them so desperate to get out of the building that they'd rather jump. Still makes me tear up.

My sister in NYC called and woke me at my CA home that morning asking me to turn on the news channel. I could hardly believe my eyes, I thought it was a trick and then I saw the second plane hit, such a surreal moment. My brother was at work in Brooklyn at the time. He and some co-workers went on the roof of their building to see the first tower on fire. While they were there they saw the airplane hit the second tower.

I used to fall asleep with the TV on, so when I woke up for work on the 11th, the TV people were going nuts. The first tower had just been hit. I thought some bozo in a private plane may have accidentally hit the building. When I realized what had happened, I couldn't pull away from the tube. When the second tower was hit, it was sobering. That sort of thing just doesn't happen here-at least, that's what I thought. I went in to work, but we didn't accomplish a thing. We had a TV in the shop and were glued to it all day. It's weird how much I can remember from that morning.

I was home from college for the summer and working with my Dad, so we rode to work together in the morning. He was waiting for me, and I'll never forget the look on his face as I got into the truck as he turned and said to me "I think a plane just ran into the World Trade Center in New York." This was when the first plane hit, and I think we both knew that it wasn't an accident, that there was something far more sinister going on. We both walked back into the house in time to turn on the TV and see the 2nd plane hit. I don't think we spoke for about 15 minutes. By this time we were late to the office, headed to work, and turned on the TV in the break room and informed everybody else at work what was going on. Nothing got accomplished that day. I'll never forget seeing grown, hardened men who I had known and worked with for a long time, breaking down in tears. I'll never forget how the country came together for a time after that day. And I'll never forget the ultimate sacrifice so many paid.

In a server farm, validating backups when it went down. We all gathered in the server room and watched it all happen live. Terrible day. I will always remember how quiet that day was. (since I live under a flight path to DFW). No planes in the sky.
