+10000 on the Speed Queen. Had ours for 3 years and my wife would kill me in my sleep if I even suggested getting something else.

    Here's the deal @ARamirez73

Unlike the fancy, environmently friendly, green machines, the SQ will do a load in 23 minutes. Not an hour. Not 90 minutes. 23 friggen minutes and into the dryer it goes. Something to consider.

We have the basic top loader (with knobs, no circuit boards) and the basic gas dryer.

Edit: forgot to add, we're a family of 4 and it gets used A LOT.

@ARamirez73 You can put more in the Speed Queen washer than what you think. Even our sales guy said that to us.

We bought the 5 year warranty model AWNE82SP113TW01. I guess the current comparable model would be the TR5 though the current TR5 has knobs.
Here's a video of the exact model that we own.

I bought my set 11-12 years ago. Frigidaire Gallery, kind of basic white top load washer, conventional electric dryer. They were on sale marked down pretty good, still like $700 back in 2006 or so. The washer was bigger than the basic top loader, but other than that they were kind of middle of the road, a lot less expensive than one of those front load washers which were kind of new at the time. Pretty basic in the way they work, no control pad or electronics, just dials.

Main thing is that they work exactly like new 11-12 years later. Okay so the plastic knob that turns on the dryer broke. Replaced it with a $9 plastic knob that broke again. Said screw that, bought a pair of mini-vice grips from harbor freight for $4 or 5, clamped them down on the shaft, been that way for years now.

About the only real scary thing I had happen was a clogged dryer vent in a rental condo I used to live in. Noticed it right away the first week I moved in, dryer didn't work, but worked where I used to live. Called the landlord, he used a plumbing snake and removed good stuffed plastic bag worth of lint out of the very long dryer tube that ran 20-25' under the house. Remember folks, clean your dryer vent, that scared me to death since its such a serious fire hazard.

Wouldn't even consider spending money on ANYTHING other than a Speed Queen.
We have the "basic" turn knob top loader. With our family of 4, we honestly do 2-3 loads of laundry.... every...single...day.

I am a research fanatic. In addition to finding the best things to spend my money on, I fully invest myself in the subject matter like it were my job. I VERY seriously considered buying a second SQ washer to store away for the future but decided not to when I read about all of the 25-30 year old machines still in service.

    Buy quality, cry once.

I have Samsung front load washer and dryer. I absolutely HATE them. I’m on my second set.

The first set I had we got because an October storm came and we lost power while washing clothes. When the power came back we caught a surge and it damaged our old school stacked washer & dryer. Insurance paid

The washer drum on that first set broke and because we had the dryer just replaced the washer. The problem we have is that they are so difficult to move and keep balanced that I cringe whenever I think about it.

If I could, I’d just go back to the old school white stack and move on... they were so much easier to maintain and handle.

Sorry to hear that, Dal. Like I said, we had the front loader for our first Samsung set. Other than cleaning it every week because of the mildew smell. We got a different model top load this time because the first one had no maintenance done not even the heating element in the dryer. That's why we went with Samsung again, plus the deal we got at Lowes.

Just an FYI to everyone. No matter what brand washer that you have and no matter if the washer that you have is top or front loading, leave the door open when not in use so that moisture doesn't collect and cause mildew.

We have a newer samsung set. Top load ‘washer’.

    Dryer is great.

Washer just kinda soaks stuff and apparently wasn’t built to actually clean anything. Speed queen is I think the only viable washer option.

i'm going on 18 years on my kenmore set, but mine are front loader stackables as they have to be in a closet. dryer, i've done nothing to, but it does occassionally squeak. about eight years ago, the spider on the drum broke and took out the water pump (common due to dissimilar metals) and late last year, a circuit board burned up. i abuse the crap out of it. usually overfill it and have washed down comforters and my 1970s zero degree coleman sleeping bags. i sometimes have to hold the door in while it locks i cram it so full ;)

Not knocking but Kenmore does not make anything. Big brands rebranded for Sears. That age, most likely Whirlpool, GE, or Maytag, maybe LG.

Nice! Opted for white LG. Did not want to have to shine them...... :)

Smart to get a top loader. I have a GE washer probably 15 years old. One of the cheapest models. No bells and whistles. Probably 2 or 3 cycles. Maytag dryer that neighbor gave me because wifey wanted matched set. Replaced a couple of thermostats because stepson would not clean lint filter plus a belt. That problem is fixed. There are lots of complaints about front load washers not cleaning well, blowing up, and making lots of noise.

Had a samsung top loader for 4 years before it had issues, it was also part of the major recall. Ij got a $75 check from samsung if I got rid of it. $75 for a washer that was $900 4 years prior. Replaced with an LG top loader, now a year old. When this one goes out, I will be getting a speed queen.

So I read this post before I swapped my dryer door. I am an engineer so I took it as a challenge to figure it out before looking at the instructional video you posted. Challenge accomplished.
