I started my 21 up today and got a big puff of smoke from the exhaust. I’ll keep my eye on it. But not gonna lose any sleep over it either.

I couldn't agree more. I couldn't get out of my 2020 AT4 fast enough. I had 6k on it, and on the way to trade it in, the adaptive cruise went out. That was after all sorts of electric issues, constant volume issues, paint chipping, noises all over when driving, and all sorts of crap. It drove like a potato. Looked great, but it wasn't a truck.

My Tundra, I have no words. Coming from the AT4 to this has been a overwhelming. Every time I drive the Tundra, I just feel lucky. I'll never leave Toyota again.

    Too many, but not enough....
Had my 21 since December, just hit 10k miles with no actual issues. The abs check threw me for a loop and some shifting concerns that are normal but I came from manual trannies and didn't know characteristics of autos.

No issues with my 2021 TRD Pro @8k miles, although my driver’s side A pillar took a big rock today and the paint did chip (I have no doubt my F-150 would have chipped too against this rock).

First problem is the skinny pedal likes to go down really far. Second problem, gas tank seems to leak. Must be side effects from the white paint and av gas.:burnrubber:

I get the same occasional AC grind. It is 100% the AC, only ever happens if I turn it on immediately after starting the truck, if I let it idle down some then it won't do it.

No actual issues at 5k miles though. Did get the first windshield star in my life.... from the tinniest of pebbles that came off a trailer passing in the fast lane.

I have a '21 1794 and have had zero issues with it. I also owned a 2017 and had no issues with it. My first Tundra was a 2012 and at 95k the water pump failed.
All are 4 wheel drive. I haven't had any issues with the 4 wheel drive system, which gets used very liberally in the winter months.

Bought mine in April. 8,000 miles on it. The biggest issue I have with mine is money keeps disappearing from my bank account for things like front and rear sway bars, rubber floor mats, door sill protectors, a diamond back HD bed cover, etc.

    I feel like I wish I had a '21 so I could comment. :p ;)

Seriously though...I don't think there are any more issues than usual. I felt the same way after I took delivery of my '20, and had a very minor and VERY intermittent but persistent AC issue (air would work fantastic...but would ONLY come out the top vents). After almost a year, it 'broke' completely and was found out to be some sort of sensor....and it's been great since then.

No problem with my '21 at 7,500 miles and almost one year. I just passed the same point in time where my '18 F150 broke down for the first time.

This is a complaint about every single new vehicle now that they're all using water based paint or something like that to protect the environment.

Let me see if I can explain this in a fashion that people can understand about Toyota's paint chipping easy.

I get the pleasure of working on only Mercedes BMW & Porsche cars for a living.
The finishes on these cars appear to resist chipping and fracture way better, and there is a reason.

The reason everyone claims that the paint is the problem or the base coat being solvent or chemical suspended makes no difference.
The difference IS the sheet metal it is applied to.
If the sheet metal is impacted by an object, it flexes the finish beyond its reasonable limit BECAUSE the Asian & Domestic sheet metal qualities are thinner and therefor let the finish chip or crack easily.
Something as simple as an 8mm clear stone guard material is worth its weight in gold.

Want your paint to last and not chip, invest in the clear stone bra on your Toyota & Lexus cars.

My truck gets an occasional chip touch up, but its not anywhere near the nose thats stone bra protected.

Every Tundra does this, there is no fix and has not proved to be troublesome, just a little annoying. If you let the truck idle for 30 seconds before turning on AC there is no issue.

Try keeping the A/C on low before starting the truck in hot temps, it usually won't make the noise. Is this a fix for all those who lose sleep over this noise, probably not, but just try it. :)
