What mpg will make you move on to 3rd gen?

Out of curiosity for all you guys with a lift and 35"s, how often did you get stuck or find yourself otherwise incapable of getting your Tundra from A to B because of the stock ride height or tires?

 

I have. The speedbumps at the mall are YUGE! I may have to move up to 37s

Maybe you missed the first part of my quote where I said "Its never going to make sense to buy a $60,000 truck just for a 5MPG increase". I don't think anyone is arguing that you will save money in the long run by buying a 2022 when you have a paid off gen 2 in your driveway. My point is when comparing new trucks, yes of course MPG's matter. Ill take the better performance out of the 3.5 and save my $500 bucks each year on gas, and have faith "toyota reliability" keeps the maintenance costs similar.

 

Agreed. The only people who will save money buying a new truck that gets better mileage are using their truck all day as part of their job. For those few 50K mile per year or more guys and gals, their math pencils out very differently than most of ours.

So that leaves guys who can’t do math thinking they’ll have a net savings (none of the fine and esteemed members of this forum!), or guys and gals who just want a new truck, or need a new truck. If you’re in the market for whatever reason then I agree fuel efficiency and running costs are a factor. Where they place on your list of priorities may vary, but for most of us they’re on the list.

 

I think the Tacoma owner do need those mpg save to change over to tundra, just ½ ton registration and Insurance is a big leap
