Similar situation as you 1up. Need 3 row suv but I still need a truck. This is a tangent but patiently waiting for the Rivian SUV. High hopes for it.

My truck is also a 2019 and almost paid off. Was offered 52,500 for my truck. Only thing holding me back is all the accessories on the truck (ladder rack, Suspension, exhaust, other little tid bits I put on). I don't want to take it off nor have the time.

    It's still a "thing".

Turbos still coke bearings and intercoolers are water cooled on the 2022 Tundra

Sorry, turbos are still oil cooled. The intercooler on the 2022 Tundra is water cooled.

I could get 30 mpg if there's a gas station on a hill above me...lol

This is where I’m at. Love the looks of the 3rd Gen truck. Mine only has 110k on it. I’ll drive it for another 7-10 years and then I’ll replace it with a 3rd Gen Tundra. Not many folks can upgrade solely for the fuel economy and make it pencil out.

This. One of the reasons I like my current Tundra so much is how it drives - meaning, my driving style matches very well with how the 5.7 and 6spd are tuned. There are other things too, but no single datapoint sells me on a vehicle.

I kinda hope the new Tundra sucks, at least for the first 2 or 3 years, simply because I don't need to be spending the extra money right now.

    I put on 10k km a year.....that's a long lifespan for a Toyota.

We will see what retirement does or changes things. This Tundra will be under 10y old when I retire and have less than 100k km on it or about 65k miles.

If you're not getting the EPA ratings on your current Tundra, you'll be unlikely to get them on the new one. So you're not going from 13 to 25 mpg, you're probably going from 13 to 17.

I'm hoping for at least 25MPG on the Hybrid. Would love 30 but I doubt it.

have had dozens of turbos. The thought to cool one down after driving has never even crossed my mind. My trip is done the truck gets shut off. Sometimes I think these things get over “thinked”

I don't care if it gets 10mpg. I just want a 50 gallon tank so I can stop for gas less. That way I can just roll into the drive-thru for chew and keep truckin'.

The 38 gallon tank is a life saver. Sure, you could get a compact and get 40+ mpg's with a 10 gallon tank, but you'll look dumb, not be able to tow/haul anything and stop for gas just as much.

Deal breaker for me would be the shrunken rear legroom in the Double cab. Crew cab with my required 6.5 foot bed (my requirement) is way too long when towing my trailer. It won't fit the tight turns I have to make

Ok, but what would those guys get in the 5.7 on a road trip? Comparing their numbers to the EPA is not apples to apples (unless they somehow magically always get EPA numbers in everything they drive everywhere). Neither is comparing their numbers to yours.

I didn't watch the video, but how were they driving? Keeping it under the limit? Or driving 5-10mph over? Coasting downhills? Were they trying to get good economy, or just driving like they do normally in any truck?

The takeaway for me is that, regardless of how they drove, I can more than get into the same ballpark of upper teens with my v8/6speed on a road trip. Some of my best MPGs are when we get off the interstate and head through rural areas on two-lane highways and gravel roads because I'm usually averaging 40-55mph

He also stated he drove to the off-road course and he did how many 0-60 second laps for the video? That's pretty cool. If you get into it that's a great mileage. If you drive pamper your gas pedal I'm sure you'll I'd be around 22 avg.

I'm just thinking maybe the TFL guys are really heavy on the pedal. So, say, if they get 13 mpg highway in the second gen Tundra, 19 in the third gen doesn't look too bad.

I'd need my truck or 3 row SUV to do 9-10 hrs straight. So I'm not in the all electric market.

I saw that TFL driving the Duramax Diesel Yukon got almost 27mpg over a 400+ mile trip. That's impressive. Hopefully the Sequoia doesn't wiff as hard as this turd gen did.

If the world ever came to the realization that you don’t buy trucks for good gas mileage then we would all save a lot energy, worry, time, etc….they are mutually exclusive.

Most important thing for me is reliability. After that, I want the best MPG I cant get. Sorry brothers but you are the minority.
I don't want my hard earn $ go don't the gas tank. That's why I never seriously considered a Tundra before. 13 MPG is a no no for me. I haul a 4 wheeler, boat, and junk trailer with my taco but I want something with a bit more power to get up those hills. Getting lets say 25MPG with a tundra hybrid as opposed to 18-19 with my taco would be sweet.
