No need to replace brake lines for that little lift. You can run up to 3" of lift with stock lines without problems.

If you do want SS lines they come in black or steel as well.

Swapped my stock intake back on and took it for 20 mile drive to compare. Obviously it’s not fully done learning yet, but I did learn a few things.

    1. my fuel trims went down to +-5%.
    2. Low end grunt seems a bit better
    3. Intake temps are 2-3 degrees cooler
    4. It’s way quieter
    5. It seems like it has less mid and high rpm power, but that could also be a combination of placebo effect from the noise, and the fact that the ECU hasn’t fully learned yet
    6. The engine load percentage at which the torque converter unlocks went back up to 75%.

so, it fixed my lean condition. It also makes me wonder about how the K&N claims it makes more power than stock. Could it just be fooling the MAF sensor and letting more air past than it thinks, resulting in a lean condition, and fuel trims go up to compensate? More fuel = more power?

that seems till line up with the lean condition as well as with the load percentages as that is a function of CFM detected by the maf sensor and throttle percentage.

They move the MAF and it trucks the computer. If you want to test it another way, put the tube back on, block off their mag port and then put the mag in the stock location (assuming your intake is the one that uses the stock box)

Mine is not compatable with the stock box(it’s too long), so I can’t do the block off mod.

It’s curious, I didn’t think it would affect fuel trims THAT much.

I drove on the freeway today, OD off.........my oh my that engine sings at 3k and really moves the truck!!!! I also noticed the truck accelerate seemingly effortless in top gear without needed to down shift unless I gave it more. Noise wasn’t to bad at those speeds, I will get a rough idea about highway mileage soon, but will be towing; but still expect some gains after this short high speed test. Headers for the win!

At wide open throttle the stock kit has a slight vacuum, the opening through the fender is not quite big enough to support the engine at high rpm with open throttle. You can recover the lost horses by cutting a 1.25" hole in the airbox.

The K&N kit sounds so damn good though. I loved how nasty my truck sounded with it. Scared the hell out of people when I come in hot.

Probably why they re-shaped the inlet on the 05 & 06 air box & inner fender.

A popular mod long ago was called "the deck plate" mod. Guys were using some plate with a removable hole, apparently its a part for boats but I don't know what they do on boats.

Attach the plate to the front of the airbox below the filter and cut the hole out. That way in the Summer you can "seal" the hole by closing the plate, and enjoy the extra 5 horses in the cooler months.

I would imagine the vacuum increased with the heavier breathing vvt-i motors. The study I read was really well done by a guy on Tundra Solutions long ago. He put vacuum meters all over the intake looking for ways to improve it.

its funny, Afes intake for the 4runner has a lil rubber piece that’s removable, sounds basically the same as the deck plate mod you described

As far as I know the only vehicle that had gains from the deck plate was the 3.4.

Sounds like an adjustable intake that's used on snowmobiles and sometimes motorcycles.

Remembered to grab a pic of the steering wheel switches after swapping the LEDs the other day. These are 'warm white', I'm waiting on some 'cool white' ones to try too.

If someone wants the warm white ones lmk. I can mail you some to diy or swap switch circuit boards.

They don't make crazy hard to install headers that need a custom exhaust for the v6? I say spread the pain around!

For the record... This was when I should have been seduced by long tube headers. When the freaking coil bucket was cut off and I could get to the side of the engine.

I dunno. Probably. It's not on my radar. Besides, I like the plain old sound she makes. It reminds me of home. I was basically raised in this truck after all.

Cruisin' is on the agenda. Ridin the wave.

This looks like an ass load of work.

I did that to my 4runner a dozen or so years ago. The noise was brutal on the highway while towing. I leave the lid on now.
