What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

I ordered a new power stop front brake kit with calipers from Jegs. My brakes are getting hung up causing a really nice shake at higher speeds.

 

I took it to a local paint shop who does auto repair, but more painting than anything.

My old paint was definitely peeling and sunburnt unfortunately. If it wasn't for that and my current lack in space to do a job like that, I would've been more inclined.

 

I haven't done anything but search for parts lol... Ordered new lower ball joints, jba uca, and an alpine single din radio unit. Still debating on suspension...leaning towards toytec aluma coilovers , as for rims... Wanted the sema 17" rims everyone has but in bronze... But leaning to keep my somewhat rare 16" rims and put 33" wildpeaks.

 

Fyi ask JBA if your UCA have the upgraded boots. They are releasing a new boot because they had a bad batch. Very helpful and will make it right. Boots should be just about in stock too.

 

Sitting in Big Box parking lot this morning picking my nose and collecting checks. Mr. SeaGull decides to drop this piece of Creme Pie on me.

Which JBA UCAs are you buying? Im looking at their site now and I dont see anything for our Tundras?

 

I tested the Creme Pie Cookie Portion with a stick and it was hardened so I flicked it off with a stick. I only eat Soft Fresh Creme Pie.

After almost a month Hiatus from the garage (grinding spark in eye followed by storm damage cleanup and work getting in way).

Plated the sliders for Tundra and pulled the first plates worth of dimples. I swear im.gonna actually install these soon....

really inspect the transmission closely. And the flywheel. Usually the trans pump is ruined if it’s forced..

This is exactly what I plan on doing for sliders I eventually put on... plating looks soo much better to me... plus it’ll help keep all the shit off the side of the truck

 

Nice, will you take some pics when done? I have a Leer with no racks or guides and trying to come up with a cost effective solution.

 

I dont like the solid 1 piece long fill plates so i chose to just plate the middle of the long run, where I stepessentially. Figure if i want to I can always plate the other 2 sections in.

The inverted dimples make awesome grip when getting shit on/off roof rack and stuff too. I went with 3/4", 1", and 1 1/4" on these.

 

Those dimples are key!

 

I have about 20 holes in the top from the previous owner and its peeling pretty bad.

If you peak inside the hole where the torque converter goes, there should be two “teeth” 180 degrees from each other that correspondes with the notches in the converter, if those are still there 90% chance your ok. 3 clicks is what you should hear. Sometimes the 3rd happens at the same time as the 2nd click... best test is, your fingers should not fit BEHIND the torque converter and the converter should sit a bit in from the face of the bellhousing, not flush

 

It was pretty sun beat so I hit it with some 120 and threw a coat of Rustoleum on it. I probably should have went flat vs gloss but ehh... The cool thing is that these Escapes are everywhere. I counted at least 4 in my small yard. If you need/want more cross bars, they seem to be plentiful.

I ran two rows of butyl tape along the bottom and a bunch around the screw holes. I had 3/4 of a roll left over from reinstalling the windows but a fresh roll was under $20 at the big box store.

 

Regarding the holes, sand around them with 80 grit, grab a $20 thing of bondo from Vato Zone and pookie til your hearts content. Sand it flush and then forget about it. It’s the top, if anyone can see it either you need to lift it more or stop being friends with freakishly tall people. They can’t be trusted.

Regarding the peeling, take a fresh razor blade and cut the peeling clear back to good clear. Get a long drywall sanding block from Lowes/HD and YouTube block sanding. You don’t need sand off base coat for any reason. Make sure its nice and flat and then hit it with some 2k clear. They actually make it in rattle cans now that will cover a decent bit.

 

No real work yet, still planning, collecting, and eyeballing.

The 2nd leaf has a hook? I think these are tacoma springs, but does that hook go forward? Is it to protect the rear shackle?

1) Denso Fuel Pump 107 with New OEM Gasket Tank Seal and Pump Cushion. $125

2) New Blower Motor as mines been ticking like a leaf is stuck for a long time, but its not. $71

Almost pulled trigger on Morimoto LED Projectors. Still might. $450 wooooweeeee!!!

Bought some HIR 9012 Head Lamp Bulbs to retrofit for the Mz PHM Mobile. $52

 

Plan to drop the tank or remove the bed? I’m curious how hard the pump is to change out.

 

Going to drop the tank. They replaced the straps under recall in 2005 and they look pristine as well as the pins holding them.

Looks like I’ll be bear hugging the tank as it drops down on me. Never done one before, but in seriousness probably put a jack up under with some plywood and straps. No way looks easy, but it will get done.

I think removing the bed still requires the tank to be dropped in some form. Scarred to mess with the Bed Bolts Mojo. Feels like bad JuJu.

 

I just did the fuel pump in an early 00’s ranger and removed the bed, and cleaned and painted. Tried pulling the tank without removing the bed, had to pull the bed to take the fill tube out. Helped to have the wheels off, but wasnt too heavy of a bed with the tailgate off. I managed to not break any of the fuel line clips, but the fuel filter was a little different, but came with a fresh bracket.

 

Assuming you’re having fuel pump issues? Or is this just in typical preventative PHM fashion?

I read a lot and pick up on Anomalies. My Radar Mojo was close on the Alternator Bushings. Its tingling on this Fuel Pump. Stuff wears out predictably. All I’m doing is getting ahead of it and having fun working on my truck at the same time. Might be a month or two before doing the Pump because I’ve got other stuff lined up to do on the truck next week with nice weather and finally some time off.
