What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

The difference is Tundra2’s V6 vs. V8.

Yeah. The cold is bad on my MPG, too.

 

He is claiming 25% reduction in fuel economy. That is huge. I wonder what the long term cost of those are at that rate.

 

Not good. Higher heat in the engine bay doesn’t sound good either.

On the V8, the MPG stayed basically the same for me. *Maybe* a slight improve. The real difference is the shifting points and feels in torque.

 

disagree - when you turned off the front lights your face went away.
What you have is non blinding light in front for the driver to.... read a map?, and whole cab blinding light for non-driving search/work in cab.

Hey if that's engine coolant temperature sensor, what's the bigger black one next to it? All I can find is the ECT.

 

There's two I believe. The coolant temp sensor and the coolant temp sender.

The sensor reports back to the computer and the sender just works the dash gauge.

If I'm remembering correctly the sender only has 1 pin.

 

Makes sense, any guidance on how to find the part number? I've scoured the diagrams for hours with no luck.

 

parts.toyota.com tends to have a good set of diagrams. I'd definitely dig around there for a while if you haven't yet.

I've used their site to identify all sorts of little bits I couldn't find/recognize.

 

Try 8342020040 for the sender and 8942220010 for the sensor.

HIR Bulbs came today. Installed the Dali Llamas. Went custom route and poked holes in the headrest and rolled them over the back vs. carrying them up onto the headrest. Light bulbs install will be tonight once it gets dark so I can snap some before and afters.

Back when I originally had them on the truck 10-20 years ago it wasn’t too bad. They don’t cure Swampass if you already have it so I made sure to put down a towel when needed.

Sheep skin is known to keep you warm in winter and cool in summer. Check it out on a research. The fur is therapeutic, as well. Many hospitals use it for patients in long term bed positions/wheel chairs.

Took a little ride today and they were nice and toasty. The real swampass covers are those neoprene types which a few buddies have had. Leather sucks in my other car imo.

Could be something that I "feel" because its new stuff in engine. I'm looking for differences so I make one. Does that make any sense? Like a placebo? Sorta... (need more bean juice.)

Kinda makes me wonder what things would have been like with the 16 hole injectors that Keith from DD originally mentioned here on the forum. Those would have required an individual adapter per injector at an additional $75-100(??? CRS).

On the phone he told me that they had recently revised their V6 injectors to 12 hole, with no adapter. So I may have gotten one of the first released "new v6" injectors sets. I'm sure that he did his research.

 

Makes complete sense. I have no idea except to believe Keith on this. Only thing is the 25% reduction seems significant. I know you brought it up before a while back but had forgotten until you brought it back up.

 

Placebo effect.

The fuel shouldn't be burning in the intake so there should be no change to the intake manifold temp from swapping injectors.


Have you checked your IAT/MAF resistance? Also if you have a BT scan tool and torque app, you could see if your front O2 sensors are lazy and on the way out.

Swung by the hardware store on the way back from picking up a solid pinion spacer from 4wp I ordered earlier this week.

A nylon #10 washer fits the head of my stubby antenna allen perfectly (M5 x .8 thread by 20mm long).



That being said I'm not running either the o-ring or the washer at the moment. Waiting for the next rain to see if makes a difference.

 

Back then I was losing maybe 40 miles to the tank. I think it was about 90 miles on quarter of tank. I think you, @FrenchToasty, and I chalked it up to more smiles per gallon on the heavy boot.

I've changed my MAF recently, and 02 sensors early on last year. Maybe February?

Old MAF was dirty, and out of spec. 02 sensors were original I think.

I determined that my cat is bad. Haven't gotten around to ordering a big gurll cat because its cold. I've had my share of that this year.

I was going to see if URDs rear 02 conditioner would work as thats cheaper, and easier. I think I'll just bite the bullet. 90% of the time when I try to do easy first on jobs like this. I always end up doing the work twice.

I do have a scan tool, but its not with me at the moment. In our sequioa. I forgot to switch it back...

I never really understood the voltage readings from it, or the graph. Been a while since I've been in the app, but I think I can only see one 02 sensor? I'll need to confirm.

If the cat is bad and partly plugged that would explain your mileage problem.

Should have 2 front sensors. If both banks use the same cat, there may only be 1 rear.

 

V6 only has front, and rear. Two total.

I agree, that the plugged cat is not helping this situation. However, since I've taken over the work on this truck in 2016 the P0420 code has always been there. Assuming the cat has been crummy for years before this.

Why would I get 400 to tank, and then lose more mileage after the injector change?

Tackled the reverse lights. Turned out alright. Cuts ain’t perfect, but the bumper itself is dented and scratched up. It’ll do till I get ready for a full rear bumper

Alright boyz. Got the HIR Bulbs in and snapped some shots. They are brighter. The light does seem more user friendly. Bulb compartment/lens gets warm. Did before (LED), after (HIR) and side by side shots.

Unsure about whether I’ll do some LED Pods underneath and stick to all LED or just stick with these HIR. I put the LED back in whilst I ponder the decision.

 

Looks like a big improvement over LED. Does it appear that way to your eyes?

 

I must not backup as much as you guys lol. These bulbs are definitely not on my mod list

Any advice on replacing lower control arms if I should just order new cam bolts while I'm at it?

pictures don’t do it justice. They’re bright. They helped clean the backup camera up at night. My camper top blocked a lot of the visible light from reverse lights I felt like. Big improve there also.
