The star washer seated correctly on your UCA? It's been awhile but I thought I remembered the joint being almost flush with the arm.

So i called and talked to John of CVJ Axles. Super nice and informative. Told me they were heavy on grease so that's why I had the 3 bags but definitely didn't need to use them all. He also sent me a tech article from Offroadsolutions showing how to install the red silicone boots. Apparently if you don't have the 'tulip' shapped inner joint which I think only houses the 'tripod' bearing design then you have to cut some of the inner joint off since the boot clamps well over it and I'm guessing it just gets in the way... Really don't wanna cut it so not sure what I'll do.

It took me a minute to figure out how and where to clamp the boot as well, mine went right on at that point. I didn’t have to cut anything.
And the grease, I didn’t get near that much with my boots. I think two medium sized bags is all that came with (and I used all of it).

I’ll look for a pic to attach; maybe it’ll help???

Thanks. I will be doing the same and add at most a bit more grease than stock. The joint is still the same so it really don't need more grease than normal. Will assemble tonight and then I've gotta source the 'rental' needle bearing puller to get that swapped out and I'll install this CV in the driver side at the same time.

You'd have a shit fit if you saw my hands. LOL. I have dirt semi-permanently engrained into my fingers. It takes about 3 weeks off work for it to disappear. No amount of scrubbing or chemicals or soaps get it off.

Ok all done and buttoned up. Ready to swap in. It’s interesting that the oem outer boot is more like a soft plastic than rubber. Weird.
On a plus side both boots were not torn and everything looked ok. Figured it’s worth a degrease/re-grease and reboot since I had it out and a spare NAPA CV from a friend laying around.

(Camper conversion underway.) Rebuilt engine w/265K miles, A.R.E. camper shell (w/cab pass-through, rooftop fan, and side windows delete), bedlinered steel ladder rack (w/wooden rooftop deck and hammock mount), all LED lights (red dash, 4" side floods, 32" rear bar), Android head unit, 1.5" lift from Bilstein 5100 struts, 32" DuraTrac tires on factory rims, 1.5" wheel spacers, Moog suspension parts, SuperSprings leaf kit, diff drop, Reese trailer brake control, GoRhino Hitch Step, debadged, F-150 rear bumper, Sequoia center console unit upgrade, partial rear bench seat delete, dashcam, aftermarket speakers, 50% sound deadening coverage, custom tools unit.
About to buy this engine. I really hope it fits.

After my blown head gasket, instead of rebuilding the engine I decided to simply replace it. Removing it has been really slow going, currently hung up on the AC compressor bolts and seized exhaust bolts.
Does anyone know if the engine can be replaced independently from the transmission? The FSM shows the tranny coming out with it, but I really don't want to do that.
Sorry it's been awhile boys, I've really missed driving my truck so I'm way behind on all the pages. :(

Got the GD spare tire holder removed. Tedious. An hour of of slowly cranking out the rust bolts. But done. Sanded down the rusty area and threw down some Rust Reformer.

This thing was nasty. The plan is to get new tires on the new wheels and put old wheel under here for now. The spare was a 16” tire but the ones on the truck were 17”. Would rather have a 17” spare.

I brushed the snow off of it...so it could snow on it again.

It's been 2 weeks or so since I drove it.

Installed a power distribution block today to make thing's cleaner under the hood.
All connections were crimped, soldered, heatshrinked and sleaving put on the wire.
Still have a bit more to do. Almost there.....

Yes. I can't remember where I read it, but someone left the transmission in place and pulled the engine.

They even mentioned the same thing you did, about the FSM. So I'm not sure why Toyota wrote that.

You can. But you have to support the trans with a jack. Honestly at home? It’s just easy to pull the trans unless you have a rack in my opinion
