What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

I know alot of people rave about the JBA I'm sure they are good. And Dirty deeds sounds great too just not affordable for most people. I got the Gipson headers nickle plated and they are sweet. Time will tell if they hold up but I'm very happy with them.

The walls seem much thicker then the JBAs but could just be an illusion.

 

Is there a chart like this for the 5 speed?

 

I leak about that much every 5000 miles, but it's that super common o-ring leak that's attached to the thermostat housing.

 

Replaced my snugtop glass bolts with oem ones. The old rubber seals left these marks though, anyone have any tips to get rid of them?

 

No chart, but the info is in the FSM.

 

Try some rubbing compound (for wax and finishing). Try a test spot before going all in. The grit should ‘cut’ the layer off the top of glass.

 

I've used a product called Glass-X that I believe was made by Maguire's or Mother's. It's basically a rubbing compound for glass. Worked great at getting water spots off the windows. Looks like they have a product called Glass Clarity now, whole kit.

 

Hard to say in the pictures but it kind of looks like that. We had another member recently discover a leak in that area and it was his head gasket.

 

Is this the same gasket I would have replaced when I did the thermostat or another one? You can see it leaking I guess?

How do your hoses look around the throttle body and around the heater control in the engine bay?
Could you be checking the level at different times; like after the engine has run and when it's completely cold?

 

I'll take another really good look and see if I can find anything. So far I've not seen any leaks

No I've been sure to only check it when the engine is up to operating temp. I've used that as my baseline.

 

It's also the pursuit of power/speed. A 2020 Honda Accord family grocery getter does 0-60 in about 7 seconds. A 1986 Porsche 944 (non-turbo) did 0-60 in about 8 seconds.

More emissions restrictions and more power, something has to give...that something is MPG.

 

You have Gibson headers on a 1st gen? I don't even see them listed on their website.

 

Looks like it's a freeze plug next to the starter from a picture I found on the internets.
Has anyone heard of these being replaced? @Professional Hand Model @empty_lord @FirstGenVol

 

Never seen that leak on a 4.7. But it shouldn’t be too hard to replace it since it’s easily accessible with the other plenum off.. assuming the bore is still good clean it like hell and find some nice brass freeze plugs

 

Appreciate it. I'll keep an eye on it and if starts getting worse, might be a good opportunity to throw in a new oem starter while I'm in there.

 

I didn't realize freeze plugs could be replaced. Do you just push the old one out from the backside?

 

I hope from the top, I would think you could carefully pry the lip inwards and get a pair of needle nose on it.

 

Yes that would make a lot more sense than what I wrote. Otherwise he wouldn't have said it shouldn't be too difficult.

Do the Heavy Duty Denso 2.0Kw Starter. Its less $$$$ than the 1.4Kw weaker one and is an upgrade if yours didn’t come with the ‘Cold Package’.

* little note about the collars, they’re sold individual. My dumb a*s missed that part and have got to order another one

 

Installed a Hellwig 7697 front sway bar and Suspension Maxx extended end links today.




The Hellwig is significantly heavier (listed as 25lbs) and 1-1/4" in diameter. The stock bar is a smidge over 7/8" (23mm). That's 38% larger than stock!

I raised the truck with ramps and had plenty of room for the removal/installation.




I was only able to manage a short test drive but the front suspension feels a bit more firm and steering input results in a quicker turning response. I was hoping to also install my recently ordered Addco 2181 rear sway bar kit but it's backordered and likely wont ship to me until early January. Maybe by then I'll be able to order the heavy duty rear leaf springs and do it all at once.

$508 Hellwig 7700 Solid, Heat Treated Chromoly, 1-1/8" Rear Sway Bar

Hellwig 7700 is 1-1/8" in diameter but more than double the price. I got a BF deal on Big Gurl for the Hellwig front, it was $178. As soon as I purchased it I went back to the listing and it was over $250. The box arrived in pretty bad shape (seemed opened/returned) yesterday but everything was intact and the hardware was still in the box. I'm guessing since it was previously opened/returned that's why I got such a good price. I was ready to buy the Addco front (1-1/16" diamter) but I checked Big Gurl first (it was in my saved list) and it wound up being less expensive than the Addco.

 

I'm gonna put the big girl (not to be mistaken with big guurll) out of commission for the next week or so.

I'm going to rip out that rear end again so the shop can redo it and install a solid pinion spacer. I'm glad they're honoring their word to redo the gears since it makes noise.

Since I have to remove the brake lines, I figured it's a better time than any to install some wheelers SS lines.

If I get the new flange gaskets in time, am going to try and replace that header again while I have it sitting. Is there anything I can do to take some stress off of that header flange? That 05 cat is too chonky for the header and I will drive off a cliff if it cracks again.
